Chapter 198
She hadn’t seen Rosalie since the day Julian carried her home after a night of heavy drinking. Joyfully, she quickened her pace to greet Rosalie.
“Morning, Mrs. Galloway. Come on in for a cup of coffee,” said Clara.
“Thank you, but I’d prefer to wait for Julian here,” Rosalie replied, shaking her head.
“But it’s too cold outside. You can absolutely wait for Mr. Galloway in the living room. It won’t take long. He usually leaves around now,” Clara said.
However, Rosalie insisted on waiting in her car. Clara, aware of her persistence, ceased her invitations, thinking, ‘Mrs. Galloway came to see Mr. Calloway. Perhaps there’s still hope for reconciliation!’
In fact, Clara attributed Julian’s stern demeanor and insomnia—she’d noticed his lights were still on in the middle of the night—to his lingering affection for Rosalie.
After indulging in her wishful thinking, Clara happily informed Julian of Rosalie’s presence outside.
At that moment, Julian emerged from his room, frowning as he bumped into Clara, who was rushing upstairs with an overjoyed smile. He heard her say, in a gratified tone, “Mr. Galloway, Mrs. Galloway is waiting for you downstairs.”
Her words caused Julian to pause mid-necktie. A flicker of hope—barely perceptible—crossed his usually indifferent eyes. He wondered, ‘Is she here because she regrets urging me to divorce her?’
A subtle curve touched the corner of his lips, though he maintained a stern expression. “I see. Clara, you shouldn’t be so excited. Just tell her to wait.”
Silently, Clara mused, ‘Mr. Galloway, if you hadn’t hurried downstairs, I’d almost think you weren’t thrilled!’
Watching Julian practically rush downstairs, Clara couldn’t help but roll her eyes. He reached the living room, but Rosalie was nowhere in sight. The slight curve on his lips immediately vanished.
