Chapter 180
After he finished speaking, he opened the car door and was about to get in when he heard Roseanne’s slightly triumphant voice from behind.
“Are you taking it out on me because Julian treated Rosalie as my substitute?”
Although she seemed to be asking him, her superiority was evident. How could Eden miss the pride and provocation in her words? He lowered his eyes, concealing his fierce expression, then looked at Roseanne and smiled.
“Are you smug, Ms. Palmer?”
He didn’t know Roseanne well; he only knew she was Julian’s ex-girlfriend. From Rosalie, he learned that Julian had married her as a substitute for Roseanne. Although he hated Julian for his actions, he felt no ill will toward Roseanne. After all, he was unfamiliar with her.
Since Julian had treated Rosalie as her substitute, he should have hated Julian. But Roseanne's smug wait and words displeased him.
“Shouldn’t I be smug?” Roseanne raised an eyebrow.
Now, with only Rosalie’s lover present, she wasn’t worried about Julian learning of her smugness.
“I left Julian for three years. He never got over me and even married a woman who looked like me to comfort himself. As soon as he knew I was back, he wanted to divorce Rosalie. Any woman would be smug to have a man who loves her so much, don’t you think?”
She wanted to provoke Eden into telling Rosalie what she’d said. Now that she was back, Rosalie should divorce Julian so she could be with him.
To her surprise, Eden didn’t get angry. Instead, he laughed, with a hint of sympathy, pity, and mockery in his eyes.
“What’s the point of saying these things? Julian still refused to divorce Rosalie. Since he loves you so much, why didn’t he divorce to marry you?”
Eden’s words hit the mark. Roseanne’s face changed, her smug expression fading.
“Ms. Palmer, I’m sure you saw it. To get me to hand Rosalie over to him so he could take her to the hospital, Julian apologized humbly. He lost control of his emotions because of his wife, while leaving you, his sweetheart, here.”
He looked directly at her feigned composure, trying to see through her carefully maintained smugness.
“You can think over whether Julian really loves you or not.”
After saying these irritating words, Eden ignored her and drove away in his flashy red Ferrari. Roseanne stood there, pale, her lips pressed tight to prevent herself from crying. Eden’s words upset her, reminding her that Julian didn’t love her as much as she thought. This time, she saw with her own eyes how Julian lost control and humbled himself for a woman—not her, but Rosalie, her supposed substitute.
