Chapter 171
Feeling the clear rejection on Anya’s face, Roseanne’s heart sank, and her expression stiffened. Normally, she wouldn’t refuse a friendly gesture, but Anya wasn’t inclined to be nice, considering Roseanne’s intentions to become a mistress and potentially exploit the Galloway family for her own family's benefit.
“Missed me that much, huh?” Anya raised an eyebrow, her expression a mix of amusement and disdain.
“Y-yeah.” Anya’s half-smile, however, made Roseanne feel inexplicably uneasy.
“Then why didn’t you come back to visit in the past three years? Not even a phone call. What’s the matter? Did you move to some remote place with no signal, or are you so broke overseas that you can’t afford a plane ticket back?” Anya asked.
Everyone was taken aback. Roseanne’s strained smile froze. She hadn’t expected Anya to be so blunt, mirroring Julian’s lack of warmth and leaving her feeling embarrassed.
“Anya, I know it was wrong of me. You know how it was when we first moved there. We were in a completely unfamiliar place and had a tough time.”
“It’s only recently that things have stabilized, and I thought I’d come back as soon as possible to see all of you and have a proper reunion,” Roseanne explained.
