Chapter 40
“Naomi, you—” Before Madelyn could finish, Naomi slapped her twice. “Answer me!”
The Sabella family’s maids were stunned. They hadn’t expected Naomi to confront the heiress alone at Sabella Mansion.
“You’re useless! Go get my parents and grandfather from the backyard! Stop watching!”
Only after Madelyn yelled did the flustered maids rush to summon help.
Soon, Patrick Sabella, Madelyn’s grandfather, and other family members arrived. Naomi had already finished with Madelyn, delivering a final kick.
Seeing Madelyn bruised and battered, Patrick nearly lost his temper. His trembling hands gripped his cane as he sputtered, “Naomi Goodwin, you’re out of your mind! How dare you disregard my family? Is this how your parents raised you?”
Naomi casually put her hands in her pockets and looked disdainfully at Patrick. “Your family didn’t teach Madelyn manners. I’m just helping you, old man.”
Patrick fumed. His voice shaking, he said, “Even if the Sabella family’s upbringing is lacking, it’s none of your business.”
He turned to Madelyn. “Madelyn, stand up and teach her a lesson!”
Madelyn’s mother, Elaine Sabella, was visibly upset; her father, Clement, was dumbfounded and pale.
“Grandpa!” Madelyn cried when she saw her family.
Patrick demanded, “Stop crying! Stand up and fight back!”
Wiping her tears, Madelyn picked up an ashtray and glared at Naomi, who remained calm and fearless. “Go ahead and try hitting me,” Naomi warned.
Madelyn, afraid, withdrew her hand and tearfully looked at Patrick. “Grandpa, I can’t.”
Seeing Madelyn’s submissiveness, Patrick turned to Clement. “Clement, get my whip. I’ll teach this unruly girl a lesson on behalf of the Goodwin family!”
Clement signaled a maid, who brought the whip.
Without hesitation, Naomi smashed a vase and pointed the broken piece at the Sabellas. “Come and strike me, if you dare.”
Terrified, Madelyn recoiled.
“You audacious brat…” Patrick was speechless with rage.
Suddenly, a voice called from the entrance, “What’s going on here?”
It was Brendan and Jason, with several men in black suits.
Madelyn, seeing Brendan, felt even more miserable. Wiping her tears, she ran to him, wailing, “Brendan, Naomi is being arrogant! She hit me and yelled at my grandfather!”
Elaine added, “Brendan, this girl is unbearable! She’s not fit to be your wife.”
Knowing Brendan and Naomi’s relationship, Madelyn and Elaine hoped to ruin it.
Brendan replied, “It’s my decision whether she’s fit to be my wife.”
He glanced at the whip and approached Naomi. “Did they lay hands on you?”
Naomi tossed away the broken vase. “You arrived just in time.”
Elaine bristled. “Brendan, are you protecting her? Look what she did to Madelyn! Isn’t that too much?”
Brendan looked at her coldly. “It’s already done. Or do you want revenge now?”
