Chapter 0040

Noah pulled me onto the dance floor, perhaps with a bit more force than necessary, his grip firm around my waist as the music swelled around us. His brow was furrowed, jaw set in a tense line as he met my gaze directly.
โWhat was that about giving Drake a tour of the pack?โ he demanded, his tone laced with exasperation and something else. Jealousy, maybe? No. Not jealousy. Why would Noah ever feel jealousy toward me and not his precious Zoe?
I arched a brow, feigning nonchalance despite my heart fluttering. โDoes it matter? Itโs not really any of your business anymore, is it?โ Noahโs eyes flashed, but I pressed on. โBut if you must know, I agreed to show him around the packโs territory tomorrow. He seemed interested in learning more before he makes any decisions about the Lunar Festival.โ
A muscle ticked in Noahโs chiseled jaw as his grip tightened slightly. His fingers dug into my lower back, their warmth pressing through the soft silk of my dress. โAnd you just couldnโt wait to accommodate him, could you?โ he asked.
Bristling at his accusatory tone, I opened my mouth to retortโbut the words caught in my throat as Noah abruptly dipped me low. My heart stuttered as his face hovered inches from mine, our bodies pressed together from thigh to chest.
โListen to me very carefully, Hannah,โ Noah growled, his low, dangerous tone sending a flush of heat from my belly to my throat. โYou need to stay away from Drake while heโs here.โ
My breath hitched as the scent of his cologne overwhelmed my senses. Noahโs eyes blazed, his pupils practically filling each iris as they raked over my parted lips. For a dizzying moment, the world narrowed to just the two of usโthe sound of my blood rushing, the feel of his fingers gripping my thigh and pulling it against his side.
Then, with a sharp tug, Noah hauled me upright, abruptly ending the tension. As I caught my breath, I saw the warning flickering in Noahโs eyes. So he was jealousโ undeniably, irrevocably jealous of Drake and the implication of something between us.
The realization struck me like a bolt of lightning, sending a shock through me and filling me with unexpected satisfaction. Squaring my shoulders, I tightened my grip on Noah and offered a coy smile.
โIs that what youโre worried about, Noah?โ I purred, arching into his touch as our bodies swayed. โYou didnโt seem to care when you were so busy making eyes at Zoe every chance you got.โ
Noahโs jaw ticked, but I didnโt give him a chance to speak. Boldly, I guided his hand lower, settling it at the swell of my hips, just above the curve of my backside.
โYou know,โ I breathed, dipping my chin to look up at him through my lashes, โwhen we were dancing earlier, Drake couldnโt seem to keep his hands off meโฆ right here.โ
I pressed Noahโs palm more firmly, letting the words and implication hang potent between us. Noahโs throat bobbed, but he didnโt move.
I hated that the look in his eyes gave me satisfaction; that maybe Drake had been right. I wanted to make Noah jealous, not necessarily to keep him, but to make him realize what he was missing by the time we got divorced.
I had him wrapped around my finger, spellbound and burning with jealousy. But as quickly as the haze of desire descended, it dissipated, leaving Noahโs gaze sharp as steel. โWeโll discuss this later,โ he bit out, leaving no room for argument. โI still need to talk to you.โ
