Chapter 232: Noah

A single text from Hannah glared from their screens: โ€œWATERFALL!โ€

โ€œWaterfallโ€ฆ?โ€ Zoe muttered, scratching her head. โ€œHas Hannah finally lost it?โ€

Drake pursed his lips. โ€œMaybe sheโ€™s playing a prankโ€ฆโ€

Noah wanted to agree, to believe Hannah was joking or drunk, but a strange urgency washed over him. His wolf growled, bristling with worry. โ€œSomething is wrong. Our mate is in trouble.โ€

Noahโ€™s chest tightened at the word mate. He sometimes forgot, or chose to ignore, their bond. But they were mated, and his wolf was right. Something was wrong, and he would be damned if he didn't go to her.

โ€œWe need to go. Now,โ€ Noah said, pocketing his phone.

Drake nodded, already heading for the door. โ€œI only have my motorcycle, butโ€”โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Noah said firmly, pulling out his car keys. โ€œIโ€™ll drive. I know where the rental is.โ€

Zoe hesitated, glancing between them before huffing, a lock of blonde hair falling into her eyes. โ€œIโ€™m coming too,โ€ she said, grabbing her purse.

Noah had no time to argue. They rushed to his car, piling in as he revved the engine. He peeled away, tires screeching against the asphalt.

As they sped toward Hannahโ€™s rental, Noahโ€™s knuckles whitened on the steering wheel. His wolf urged him faster, to find Hannah.

โ€œWhat do you think happened?โ€ Zoe asked from the backseat.

โ€œI donโ€™t know,โ€ Noah growled. โ€œBut it canโ€™t be good. Hannah wouldnโ€™t send a cryptic message like that without reason.โ€

โ€œMaybe sheโ€™s drunk?โ€ Zoe suggested.

Noah narrowed his eyes. โ€œHannah hasnโ€™t been drinking lately. It canโ€™t be that.โ€

Drake typed furiously. โ€œIโ€™m trying to track her phone, but itโ€™s not working. Either itโ€™s off, orโ€ฆโ€

He trailed off. They knew the alternative.

โ€œKeep trying,โ€ Noah urged. โ€œAny information helps.โ€

Tense silence filled the car, broken only by the engineโ€™s roar. After what felt like an eternity, they reached the rental house. Noah was out before the car stopped, rushing toward the door.

Inside, chaos reigned. The living room was wrecked; furniture overturned, a shattered vaseโ€”with what looked like bloodโ€”on the floor. Noah stooped, letting his wolf assess the scent, and breathed a sigh of relief; it wasn't Hannah's blood.

โ€œAhh!โ€ A woman screamed, and Noah jumped back, avoiding a flying plate. It shattered against the wall. He saw Viona in a doorway, another plate raised high.

โ€œOh,โ€ she said, lowering it. โ€œItโ€™s you.โ€

โ€œWhat the hell is going on?โ€ Noah demanded, searching for Hannah. He saw Emma and Amber behind Viona, armed with a kitchen knife and a floor lamp, but Hannah was gone.

Viona shook her head, eyes wide with fear. โ€œWe donโ€™t know. We heard a commotion, a gunshot. Hannah was gone, and a black car sped away by the time we got here.โ€

โ€œWe called the police,โ€ Amber added, trembling. โ€œBut theyโ€™re taking forever.โ€

Noah ran a hand through his hair. โ€œDid you see anything else? Anything that could help us find her?โ€

Emma spoke, her voice trembling. โ€œJust before this, Hannah sent that group text: โ€˜Waterfall.โ€™ We didnโ€™t understand, but then I rememberedโ€ฆโ€

โ€œRemembered what?โ€ Drake entered the room.
