Chapter 788 You Can Consider Her
Hayleyโs POV:
Truman didnโt respond right away. He just stared at me blankly.
I fiddled with my fingers, feeling a little awkward.
I wasnโt sure why I suddenly cared about his affairs so much. But Iโd already said it, so there was no way to take it back. I just waited for him to say something.
Honestly, it made sense. People who seemed suspicious deserved to be looked into.
Besides being the Alpha of the Shadow Pack, I was also one of SIโs top leaders. It was my job to dig up info when needed.
It wasnโt because he was Truman that I was watching him more closely.
After staying quiet for a bit, Truman finally said, โNo.โ
Then, he looked at me with deep affection and added gently, โThe ones who attacked you were from the Skyhawk Syndicate. If I didnโt completely take them down, someone else might target you next.โ
I hadnโt expected him to go that far just for me.
My heart skipped a beat.
He looked so serious that I didnโt even know how to respond.
It took me a while, but I managed to steady myself. I took a deep breath, kept my cool, and said coldly, โYou didnโt have to go that far. I already have someone Iโd die for. Heโs my destined mate. The Moon Goddess picked him for me. Even if you died at the Syndicateโs base yesterday, I wouldnโt have felt a thing.โ
Then, I turned and left.
Truman quickly caught up and grabbed my wrist.
A sharp jolt hit me, and my heart was pounding. I immediately pulled back. โDonโt touch me!โ
His face shifted slightly. He was clearly hurt. He put his hands up like he was backing off. โI mean no harm. I just wanted to say you can drop the wager with Preston. You donโt need to keep going with it.โ
I was still a little out of breath. โIs that all you wanted to say?โ
โWith the Skyhawk Syndicate gone, the Hanovers have lost their backup. I know the Cyclone Packโs Alpha. One word from me, and the Hanovers will be doomed. Preston wonโt dare mess with you again.โ
I got what he meant. That made me feel a little more at ease.
After a second, I looked at him and replied calmly, โYou underestimate me. Do you think I canโt win?โ
โIโm just worried-โ
โDonโt say that.โ
I didnโt let him finish. โGo worry about someone else. I donโt need it.
โAlso, I donโt jump into anything unless Iโm sure Iโll come out on top. Just wait. Once I get my hands on a top-grade gem, Iโll turn it into jewelry for you as thanks.โ
โI donโt need it.โ
โYouโre taking it,โ I said firmly. โThatโs all Iโve got to give. Nothing more.โ
I would never let myself have feelings for anyone but Benjamin.
Even if Heraโs feelings werenโt the same, sheโd still never turn her back on her destined mate.
I left those words hanging and headed out to look for Humbert.
Heโd already chosen two raw stones. We got them registered and left the venue for lunch.
We hadnโt gone far when Becky came running after us. โMs. Carson, wait up!โ
I paused and turned around. She had already caught up. โI said Iโd thank you today. Letโs grab lunch together.โ
Her voice was soft, and when she glanced over at Humbert, her smile got a little nervous. She clutched her purse a bit tighter and looked away.
I could tell she liked him, so I wasnโt going to block her shot.
โSure,โ I said with a nod. โLetโs find a quiet place nearby.โ
Once we got to the restaurant, Becky walked ahead while Humbert and I followed.
Seizing the moment, I elbowed him lightly and whispered, โSheโs sweet. If you havenโt met your destined mate yet, maybe give her a chance.โ
He smiled shyly.
Just then, my phone rang.
I had marked the caller ID as special. It was Dominic.
