Chapter 756 Stolen

โ€œNo way!โ€

Freya blurted it out instinctively, then quickly realized her mistake and tried to cover it up. โ€œYouโ€™re wrong,โ€ she said smoothly. โ€œThat raw stone isnโ€™t worth anything. To anyone outside my family, itโ€™s just a useless piece of rock. You can take it away, but youโ€™re not going to make a dime off it.โ€

She stepped off the bed, her wolf eyes glowing in the dim light as she used their night vision to open the safe.

Inside were bundles of cashโ€“worth nearly $50,000โ€“some securities, important documents, and the gemstone sheโ€™d just won at the auction.

She pulled out $50,000 in cash, grabbed her checkbook, and quickly relocked the safe.

After scribbling down the agreed amount, she walked out and handed over both the cash and the check.

โ€œThe check is good anytime. And the cash? Consider it your reward.โ€

The man tugged his cap lower as he reached out to take them. โ€œThen thank you, Ms. Sander.โ€

With that, he shifted into wolf form and disappeared into the night.

Freya locked the safe back up and, finally, allowed herself to fall asleep.

The next morning.

โ€œAaahhh!โ€

โ€œMy gemstone!โ€

Freyaโ€™s scream echoed through the entire hotel.

By 9 a.m., the hotel was swarming with police.

One officer was questioning her as he took notes. โ€œMs. Sander, are you sure youโ€™re the only one who knows the safeโ€™s password?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Freya snapped, clearly agitated. Her sharp wolf fangs flashed as she bared her teeth. โ€œYouโ€™ve asked me that three times already. How many more times do you need me to repeat myself?โ€

โ€œI told you the rough gem I paid ten million dollars for was right there in the safe. I even saw it during the night when I got up to use the bathroom. But this morning, the safe was open, and it was gone!โ€

She gestured angrily. โ€œInstead of chasing down the thief, youโ€™re wasting time grilling me over and over! Is this really how you use taxpayersโ€™ money?โ€

โ€œMy apologies, Ms. Sander,โ€ the officer stammered. He was clearly a low-ranking wolf warrior, and his tone lacked any real authority.

โ€œWeโ€™re just trying to cover every detail thoroughly so we can solve this quickly. Please bear with us.โ€

Freya could tell he wasnโ€™t in charge and decided he wasnโ€™t worth her time. She raised her voice, shouting down the hallway, โ€œIs there anyone here who can actually take charge?!โ€

Just then, a tall, broad-shouldered man stepped out from near the safe. He was a Betaโ€“clearly someone with more authority.

โ€œMs. Sander,โ€ he said in a neutral expression as he approached.

Freya gave him a quick once-over and huffed. โ€œAre you their boss?โ€

Without waiting for his reply, she barked an order. โ€œI want you to send your people out now. I want a full sweep of the hotelโ€“every corner. Find my gemstone! And if you donโ€™t, Iโ€™ll file an official complaint for negligence and make sure youโ€™re held responsible for all my losses!โ€

โ€œForgive me, Ms. Sander,โ€ the man said carefully, โ€œbut from what we can tell, thereโ€™s no sign of forced entry anywhere in or around the room. The safe was opened with the correct password.โ€ He hesitated, clearly reluctant to say what was on his mind.

Freyaโ€™s eyes narrowed. โ€œWhat are you trying to say?โ€ she demanded. โ€œAre you seriously accusing me of stealing from my own family?! Iโ€™m a Sanders! Why would I rob myself?!โ€

The man didnโ€™t flinch, though his tone stayed diplomatic. โ€œOf course not. Iโ€™m just asking if itโ€™s possible you placed the gemstone somewhere else and forgot about it?โ€

Freya crossed her arms, her blood-red wolf eyes blazing. She asked fiercely, โ€œDo I look like someone with memory loss?โ€

The man didnโ€™t argue. Instead, he signaled to one of his team, who brought over a small locked case.

โ€œMs. Sander,โ€ he asked, โ€œcan you tell us whatโ€™s inside this?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s part of my private collection,โ€ Freya answered awkwardly, her voice rising defensively. โ€œYouโ€™re here to find my gemstone, not interrogate me! Why are you messing with my things?!โ€

Ignoring her protest, the man weighed the case in his hand and asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s the code, Ms. Sander?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know,โ€ she said, turning her head sharply, refusing to answer.

โ€œSince you refused to cooperate,โ€ he said calmly, โ€œweโ€™ll have to open it by force.โ€ He set the case on the table and began to work on it.

Freya wasnโ€™t the least bit worried theyโ€™d manage to open the box and find Hayleyโ€™s raw sapphire. Without the password, they had no legal right to damage a citizenโ€™s personal property.

Her bigger concern was now figuring out where the gemstone had gone.

Suddenly, click. The lock popped open.

Freyaโ€™s head snapped toward the sound, eyes wide.

The man glanced inside the box, then slowly turned it so she could see.

โ€œMs. Sander,โ€ he said in a quiet but pointed voice, โ€œis this the gemstone you were looking for?โ€
