Chapter 755: Time to Settle the Score
Hayleyโs POV:
Benjamin immediately picked up on my change in expression. โWhat are you thinking about?โ he asked.
โNothing much,โ I replied coolly, narrowing my eyes. โJust remembering that Freya still owes me a debt.โ
He chuckled. โSounds like sheโs in for it.โ
I smiled faintly but didnโt deny it.
If Freya could plot to kill someone over a gemstone, then I had no reason to play fair. Iโd just do the sameโtake her gem right from under her nose.
As for killing herโฆ well, if Hera couldnโt be unleashed in public, then maybe Freya could liveโjust a little longer.
Stay alive, Freya. My brother will want to settle this with you himself once he wakes up.
After breakfast, I made a call.
The line connected quickly. โWell, if it isnโt Miss Hayley herself,โ came the familiar teasing voice on the other end. โThe pig must have flown.โ
โCut it out,โ I said seriously. โIโm calling to bring you some business.โ
โNo thanks,โ he sighed. โIโve turned over a new leaf. I donโt do sneaky stuff anymore. My momโs been sick, and Iโm trying to do some good for onceโearn some karma.โ
I raised a brow. โOh! Didnโt you once swear to be the Superwolf? No longer interested in being a modern-day Robin Hood?โ
He paused. I knew I had him.
I pressed on. โSaving a life could earn you points with both God and the Moon Goddess. Isnโt that way faster than waiting for karma to catch up?โ
โJust promise me the target deserves it,โ he said finally, sounding like he was bracing himself for trouble.
โI promise,โ I said, my voice solemn. โAnd I wonโt lie to youโthis person has tried to kill my family more than once. I have to make them pay. I also canโt use my own people for this, so you can think of it as a personal grudge. But I wonโt force you.โ
โWhat?! Someone tried to kill your family?โ His voice shot up. โWho has the guts to do that? Waitโare you still keeping your Alpha status a secret? You shouldโve said so earlier! Of course, Iโll help you! Want me to leave them half-dead? Or take out their wolf and turn them into a waste?โ
I was both touched and equally speechless. โNo need to go that far. Iโm not that ruthless.โ Then I laid out the plan in detail.
Later that night.
Freya tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. The thought of Hayley stealing the spotlight these past few days made her chest ache with fury.
She rolled over, then paused. There were faint sounds coming from the living room.
โWhoโs there?โ She called out, pushing herself up and glancing toward the suiteโs sitting area.
The moment the words left her mouth, the lights flickered and went out.
โWho is it?!โ she snapped, her voice tense with warning. She reached for her phone on the nightstand.
Someone had definitely broken in. Her wolf could already smell the unfamiliar scent in the air.
She quickly dialed the hotelโs front desk for helpโ
Just as a voice from the shadows spoke up.
โMs. Sander, the missionโs done.โ
A man turned on a flashlight, illuminating part of the room.
He was standing near the coat closet by the front door, his hand resting on a silver lockbox. โThe raw gemstones are inside,โ he said. โProblem is, I couldnโt get the combination. And I didnโt want to damage the gems by forcing it open, so I brought the whole thing over.โ
โHowโs Hayley?โ Freya asked, not suspecting a thing.
โThat pretty little thing?โ he said casually. โLast I saw, they were wheeling her into the ER. Iโd be surprised if sheโs still stronger than an Omega after tonight.โ
He continued regrettably, โI wouldโve finished her off completely, but Alpha Benjamin showed up out of nowhere. Ruined the whole plan.โ
Freyaโs eyes lit up with satisfaction. โGood work. Leave the box. Iโll wire you the money tomorrow.โ
โThat wonโt work for me, Ms. Sander,โ the man said with a smirk. โCash or check only.โ
He tightened his grip on the case handle and added with a pointed tone, โNo offense, but whatโs in this box probably costs a lot more than what youโre paying me. If I donโt get the money tonight, I might just take these gems to someone else whoโs willing to pay a better price.โ
