Chapter 720: Caregiver
Hayleyโs POV:
Knowing Xavier, he is far too busy to be concerned with the Sandersโ affairs. If he had the medicine ready in advance, someone must have directed him. I stared at him intently.
โWell,โ Xavier began, then paused, his expression a blend of amusement and secrecy. โThatโs a different matter. Hayley, even between us old friends, clear accounts are necessary. Youโll have to wait until you have something I need.โ
โFine,โ I gritted my teeth, suppressing my anger, and took the box from Silasโ hands, storming out without another word. Behind me, Xavierโs cold voice echoed, โArrange the arena matches.โ
โYes, sir,โ Silas responded respectfully. Xavier was eager to set the plan of winning ten consecutive matches in motion. But if it meant bringing the medicine back, it was worth it.
I returned to the hospital with the medicine. After administering it to Peter, his vital signs quickly stabilized. Ian was called in for a temporary consultation. The results of his examination confirmed what Xavier had said: Peter was effectively in a vegetative state once more.
While the outcome was difficult to accept, the fact that Peterโs life was spared gave Virginia and Alan a sense of relief amidst their misfortune. After the medical team left, I noticed Harlan standing in the corridor. Finding an excuse to step out of the room, I saw Harlan heading into a nearby emergency exit. I followed, trying to keep my footsteps silent.
Gradually, voices emerged from the stairwell. โHave you thought this through? That guy didnโt take responsibility for you before, and now heโs in a vegetative state. You donโt have any official standing, and the Sanders wonโt hold you in high regard for looking after him,โ Harlan said.
โHe just doesnโt know what happened. I understand, Harlan. I like him; I canโt just abandon him,โ a female voice repliedโlikely Julia, the only daughter of the Middletons.
โHow is this abandonment? If you stick around and he doesnโt marry you when he wakes up, youโll have lost out big time.โ Harlan sighed heavily.
โWhat he does is his business. Iโm a Beta rank werewolf and Iโm smart. Once I graduate, even if I donโt marry into the Sanders, Iโll have a good job to support myself,โ Julia said defiantly.
Chapter 720: Caregiver
Indeed, Peterโs condition required close personal care. You could hire someone with money, but you couldnโt purchase genuine care and affection. After a moment of contemplation, I approached and pushed open the emergency exit door.
Fifteen minutes later, I led Julia back into the hospital room. โAnd this isโฆ?โ Virginia asked, looking at Julia.
โThis is the caregiver I found for Peter. Sheโs trustworthy,โ I replied. โJulia, youโll be responsible for looking after my brother.โ
โSure,โ Julia nodded. โBut sheโs so young. Can she handle it?โ Virginiaโs skepticism was evident.
โMrs. Sanders, I can do it. Iโm a Beta rank and very strong. When my mom was bedridden, I cared for her for years,โ Julia said earnestly. โShe was immobile for ten years, and even the doctors praised me for my care.โ
โAlright then, since Michelle found you, weโll give it a try. If it doesnโt work out, we can find additional help,โ Virginia conceded after seeing my reassuring look.
With that, Julia smoothly took her place by Peterโs side, caring for him as arranged. Having settled this, I took Virginia outside the room for a private conversation.
