Alpha Hayleyโ€™s Destined Mate

Chapter 719: Who Sent You?

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

Xavier set his glass down and leisurely poured himself another drink from the bottle. With a sly grin, he said, โ€œItโ€™s not that I knew youโ€™d come, but I knew weโ€™d meet again soon enough. Itโ€™s not surprising.โ€

He paused, gazing into his glass. โ€œOver the years, weโ€™ve always been like this: seeing each other frequently for a time, then losing touch for long stretches.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t have time for a trip down memory lane,โ€ I stated bluntly, getting straight to the point. โ€œSomeone went missing after I left here.โ€

โ€œBring him back to me!โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t take your guy,โ€ Xavier said nonchalantly, feigning innocence. โ€œI thought you didnโ€™t need him anymore.โ€

โ€œWhether I need him or not is my business. My person went missing from your territory. Donโ€™t tell me you canโ€™t handle it.โ€ My tone grew more serious.

Xavier paused mid-pour, a shadow crossing his face. โ€œHayley, you canโ€™t just bully me because I favor you!โ€

โ€œI said heโ€™s not here. I donโ€™t want to repeat myself a third time.โ€ He revealed the sharp fangs typical of his vampire clan. His expression didnโ€™t make him seem like he was lying. In fact, I had considered this possibilityโ€”that a third party was responsibleโ€”but I had held onto a sliver of hope.

โ€œSorry to bother you.โ€ I turned to leave, tossing the words over my shoulder.

โ€œWait!โ€ Xavierโ€™s smile returned. โ€œI canโ€™t find your guy, but it doesnโ€™t mean I canโ€™t help you save him.โ€

I paused mid-step. Before I could turn around, Silas approached, respectfully handing over a box.

โ€œYour brotherโ€™s injuries are severe, and Iโ€™m very concerned.โ€

โ€œThis medicine wonโ€™t bring someone back from the dead, but it can keep him and his wolf in a near-death state for six months. That would give you time to save him.โ€ Xavier smiled faintly.

I glanced at the box in Silasโ€™s hand but didnโ€™t take it immediately. I looked at Xavier from the corner of my eye. โ€œWhatโ€™s the catch?โ€

Even though weโ€™ve known each other for a long time, I never take much without giving back more. He always found a way to get double or more in return. Iโ€™ve often thought that with Xavierโ€™s business acumen, heโ€™s wasted in the black market; he belongs in the financial markets, competing with capitalists.

โ€œCut to the chase. What do you want?โ€ I said irritably.

โ€œAlright, you never want to chat with me.โ€ Xavier sighed, setting his glass down.

When he looked up again, his eyes gleamed with shrewdness. โ€œI want you to fight in the arena for me, ten times, and you have to win them all.โ€

โ€œDeal.โ€ I agreed without hesitation.

I thought for a moment and then asked him seriously, โ€œTell me, who sent you to give me this medicine?โ€
