Chapter 637: Agreed for the Time Being
Was it really that hard for him to accept her?
Freya bit her tongue, the sharp pain jolting her back to reality and helping her regain control over her emotions. She forced a smile, her voice steady though tinged with tension. โDad, my management abilities are nowhere near yours or Peterโs level yet. I was hoping to stay by your side a little longer and learn from you.โ
Alanโs voice remained calm and detached. โOnce you marry into the Ortegas, you can always come back and visit me and your mother. Nothing will change.โ
Freya set her coffee cup down, adopting an indifferent expression as she offered an excuse. โThatโs true, but the Ortegas are facing a tough time right now. Danielโs career is still unstable. He probably wants to spend a few years focusing on getting things in order before settling down.โ
Alan gave her a flat, emotionless look. โTell him not to worry. After the marriage, you can stay at the Sandersโ place. If he wants, he can even work at the Sandersโ company to gain some experience.โ
Freya realized there was no way around it and reluctantly agreed for the time being. โAlright, Iโll talk to Daniel about it soon.โ
With that, the conversation fizzled out, and they sat in silence.
After dinner, Freya left to find Daniel. Before the Ortegasโ business went bankrupt, their assets were seized, and Daniel had scraped by to keep a small apartment. By the time Freya arrived, it was already 9:00 p.m.
Sitting in the cramped space, Freya couldnโt hide her displeasure. It took a while for her to adjust to the atmosphere, but eventually, she broke the silence. โEveryone was pretty upset this afternoon. Donโt take it to heart,โ she said.
Daniel, casually leaning against the fridge, snorted in amusement. โBut I love taking things to heart. Thereโs nothing I can do about it.โ
โWith my situation, how could I compete with you, Ms. Sander?โ he continued. โIf my wolf werenโt still around, youโd have probably dumped me by now. I wouldnโt be of any use to you.โ
Freya frowned, clearly irritated. โI know youโre upset, but if youโve got something to say, just say it. I wonโt be offended.โ
โI came to tell you that trouble is headed our way. Alan wants to kick me out of the Sanders management team.โ
โThatโs great. Youโll be just like meโwithout any power. Even Hayley, that Omega, will dare push you around now. That makes us an even better match now,โ Daniel shot back bitterly.
Freya stood up, glaring at him. โYou need to stop with the sarcasm. Instead of wasting time here, you be thinking about this: Considering your history with Hayley, do you think youโll have any chance of surviving if I lose control of the Sanders?โ
She turned to face him seriously. โRemember the fate of Jonah and his crew. If you donโt want to end up like them, pick up your knife and get to work!โ
โUse my brain and your knife to clear away anyone who stands in our way!โ
Benjaminโs POV:
The Carsonsโ new mansion had plenty of empty rooms, and I had initially planned to choose one for myself. But Peter made it clear that I wasnโt allowed to live with Hayley before the wedding. He thought it would give the Moon Goddess the wrong impression and harm Hayleyโs mental and physical health.
So, I had no choice but to buy a nearby villa. With Justin and May around, things were chaotic at the Carsonsโ place, so Hayley spent most of her time at my house. She was here almost every day, which I didnโt mind at all. In fact, I was happy and enjoyed our time together.
The only problem was this guy named Hawk, who seemed to follow Hayley everywhere. Sometimes, I couldnโt stand him, and I really wanted Lawrence to kick him out. But there was nothing I could doโHawk had become one of Hayleyโs subordinates. His real name was Stewart Tillery, and ever since the Riverview Lounge incident, heโd been glued to Hayleyโs side.
Stewart didnโt behave like an outsider. When Hayley and I worked inside, heโd lounge on a rocking chair outside, wearing a hat and leisurely soaking up the sun. Then there was my ever-annoying brother, Henry, who showed up at Hayleyโs place every day.
Peter came by today as well. When he saw Hayley lying across my lap, he shot me a glare, and I just grinned back. Hayley, however, didnโt even notice him. Peterโs frown deepened, clearly upset. Seeing the frustration and urgency in his face, I quickly asked, โWhatโs going on?โ
