Listen to this chapter:

Irene turned her attention to Miriam and said, โ€œOh, I remember now. Youโ€™re Edwardโ€™s girlfriend.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s right,โ€ Miriam replied.

Irene sneered, โ€œEdward, youโ€™re a fool to stay with her. Look at what happened to your brother. Do you believe any friend of Teresaโ€™s can be a good person?โ€

โ€œLook whoโ€™s talking. Youโ€™re no better yourself,โ€ Miriam snapped.

Miriam had had enough of this. There were some things she had to make clear to Irene today.

โ€œYouโ€™re supposed to be an elder, but you stoop so low as to use dirty tricks against someone younger. You have no shame. Youโ€™re not worthy of any respect,โ€ Miriam spat out.

Irene was taken aback, her face flushing with anger. She stood up and jabbed a finger at Miriam. โ€œSay that again. Who are you calling underhanded and shameless?โ€ she demanded.

Miriam shot back, โ€œIโ€™m talking about you. Arenโ€™t you the one scheming against Teresaโ€™s company? And just now, you acted like Teresa cares about your familyโ€™s money. Please, give me a break.โ€

Ireneโ€™s eyes went wide. โ€œHow can you be as shameless as Teresa? Did I say anything wrong about her?โ€ she pressed.

Miriam shot back, โ€œTeresa isnโ€™t like that. If she cared about money, sheโ€™d have used the baby to squeeze millions from the Lynns. She hid the child from Jonathan because she wouldnโ€™t use her child as leverage.โ€

The more Miriam spoke, the more it hurt. She wondered, โ€˜Why did Teresa change? Was it because of the baby or something else? Why had she become so cautious and guarded?โ€™

Miriamโ€™s heart ached for Teresa, but Irene scoffed. โ€œHow do you know Teresa isnโ€™t just after Jonathanโ€™s money? Sheโ€™s fishing for a bigger catch. No oneโ€™s more calculating than her.โ€

โ€œCalculating? Seriously?โ€ Miriam said as she let out a bitter, angry laugh. โ€œOh, please. Iโ€™ve known Teresa for a long time. I know what kind of person she is. Who are you to judge her like that?โ€

Irene sneered, โ€œDonโ€™t you know the saying that you can know a personโ€™s face, but not their heart? Honestly, youโ€™re both cut from the same cloth.โ€

Stunned, Miriam snapped, โ€œCanโ€™t win the argument, so you go straight for low blows? No wonder Teresa ended up with a mother-in-law like you. Maybe get yourself checked out. You sound unwell.โ€

โ€œHow dare you?โ€ Irene snapped, immediately telling Miriam to get lost, even shooting a glare at Heidi.

โ€˜Look at the kind of girlfriend Edward found,โ€™ Irene fumed inwardly.

In the end, Edward pulled Miriam away.

โ€œLet go of me,โ€ Miriam protested, her face flushed with anger.

โ€œWhat is with your aunt? Honestly, I canโ€™t figure her out. Itโ€™s like sheโ€™s from another planet. I have no idea what goes on in her head,โ€ she exclaimed, still fuming.

โ€˜If I had a mother-in-law like that, Iโ€™d never get married. How did Teresa put up with Jonathanโ€™s mom for two whole years?โ€™ Miriam thought, shaking her head in disbelief.

Chapter 845

Edward put on a mock-serious face and said, โ€œMiriam, that wasโ€ฆโ€

Miriam pouted, feeling a little wronged, โ€œWhat? Are you mad at me or something? Gonna yell at me?โ€

โ€œThat wasโ€ฆโ€ Edward started, then paused.

Then Edward gave her a big thumbs up. โ€œThat was awesome. Couldnโ€™t have said it better myself,โ€ he said.

Miriam was speechless, thrown for a loop.

Edward leaned in and whispered in her ear, โ€œHonestly, I think Irene is way too much. Nothing good ever happens when she shows up at my place.โ€

Miriam gave him a playful punch and said, โ€œYou scared me. I thought you were about to chew me out or something.โ€

Edward shrugged and added, โ€œIt doesnโ€™t bother me. Iโ€™m not close to Irene anyway, but I am close to Jonathan. Just donโ€™t say bad things about him or my mom, thatโ€™s all.โ€

Miriam smirked, โ€œIโ€™m not stupid. Of course I wouldnโ€™t say anything like that right in front of you, hmph.โ€
