Irene turned her attention to Miriam and said, โOh, I remember now. Youโre Edwardโs girlfriend.โ
โThatโs right,โ Miriam replied.
Irene sneered, โEdward, youโre a fool to stay with her. Look at what happened to your brother. Do you believe any friend of Teresaโs can be a good person?โ
โLook whoโs talking. Youโre no better yourself,โ Miriam snapped.
Miriam had had enough of this. There were some things she had to make clear to Irene today.
โYouโre supposed to be an elder, but you stoop so low as to use dirty tricks against someone younger. You have no shame. Youโre not worthy of any respect,โ Miriam spat out.
Irene was taken aback, her face flushing with anger. She stood up and jabbed a finger at Miriam. โSay that again. Who are you calling underhanded and shameless?โ she demanded.
Miriam shot back, โIโm talking about you. Arenโt you the one scheming against Teresaโs company? And just now, you acted like Teresa cares about your familyโs money. Please, give me a break.โ
Ireneโs eyes went wide. โHow can you be as shameless as Teresa? Did I say anything wrong about her?โ she pressed.
Miriam shot back, โTeresa isnโt like that. If she cared about money, sheโd have used the baby to squeeze millions from the Lynns. She hid the child from Jonathan because she wouldnโt use her child as leverage.โ
The more Miriam spoke, the more it hurt. She wondered, โWhy did Teresa change? Was it because of the baby or something else? Why had she become so cautious and guarded?โ
Miriamโs heart ached for Teresa, but Irene scoffed. โHow do you know Teresa isnโt just after Jonathanโs money? Sheโs fishing for a bigger catch. No oneโs more calculating than her.โ
โCalculating? Seriously?โ Miriam said as she let out a bitter, angry laugh. โOh, please. Iโve known Teresa for a long time. I know what kind of person she is. Who are you to judge her like that?โ
Irene sneered, โDonโt you know the saying that you can know a personโs face, but not their heart? Honestly, youโre both cut from the same cloth.โ
Stunned, Miriam snapped, โCanโt win the argument, so you go straight for low blows? No wonder Teresa ended up with a mother-in-law like you. Maybe get yourself checked out. You sound unwell.โ
โHow dare you?โ Irene snapped, immediately telling Miriam to get lost, even shooting a glare at Heidi.
โLook at the kind of girlfriend Edward found,โ Irene fumed inwardly.
In the end, Edward pulled Miriam away.
โLet go of me,โ Miriam protested, her face flushed with anger.
โWhat is with your aunt? Honestly, I canโt figure her out. Itโs like sheโs from another planet. I have no idea what goes on in her head,โ she exclaimed, still fuming.
โIf I had a mother-in-law like that, Iโd never get married. How did Teresa put up with Jonathanโs mom for two whole years?โ Miriam thought, shaking her head in disbelief.
Chapter 845
Edward put on a mock-serious face and said, โMiriam, that wasโฆโ
Miriam pouted, feeling a little wronged, โWhat? Are you mad at me or something? Gonna yell at me?โ
โThat wasโฆโ Edward started, then paused.
Then Edward gave her a big thumbs up. โThat was awesome. Couldnโt have said it better myself,โ he said.
Miriam was speechless, thrown for a loop.
Edward leaned in and whispered in her ear, โHonestly, I think Irene is way too much. Nothing good ever happens when she shows up at my place.โ
Miriam gave him a playful punch and said, โYou scared me. I thought you were about to chew me out or something.โ
Edward shrugged and added, โIt doesnโt bother me. Iโm not close to Irene anyway, but I am close to Jonathan. Just donโt say bad things about him or my mom, thatโs all.โ
Miriam smirked, โIโm not stupid. Of course I wouldnโt say anything like that right in front of you, hmph.โ
