Irene turned her attention to Miriam and said, “Oh, I remember now. You’re Edward’s girlfriend.”
“That’s right,” Miriam replied.
Irene sneered, “Edward, you’re a fool to stay with her. Look at what happened to your brother. Do you believe any friend of Teresa’s can be a good person?”
“Look who’s talking. You’re no better yourself,” Miriam snapped.
Miriam had had enough of this. There were some things she had to make clear to Irene today.
“You’re supposed to be an elder, but you stoop so low as to use dirty tricks against someone younger. You have no shame. You’re not worthy of any respect,” Miriam spat out.
Irene was taken aback, her face flushing with anger. She stood up and jabbed a finger at Miriam. “Say that again. Who are you calling underhanded and shameless?” she demanded.
Miriam shot back, “I’m talking about you. Aren’t you the one scheming against Teresa’s company? And just now, you acted like Teresa cares about your family’s money. Please, give me a break.”
Irene’s eyes went wide. “How can you be as shameless as Teresa? Did I say anything wrong about her?” she pressed.
Miriam shot back, “Teresa isn’t like that. If she cared about money, she’d have used the baby to squeeze millions from the Lynns. She hid the child from Jonathan because she wouldn’t use her child as leverage.”
The more Miriam spoke, the more it hurt. She wondered, ‘Why did Teresa change? Was it because of the baby or something else? Why had she become so cautious and guarded?’
Miriam’s heart ached for Teresa, but Irene scoffed. “How do you know Teresa isn’t just after Jonathan’s money? She’s fishing for a bigger catch. No one’s more calculating than her.”
“Calculating? Seriously?” Miriam said as she let out a bitter, angry laugh. “Oh, please. I’ve known Teresa for a long time. I know what kind of person she is. Who are you to judge her like that?”
Irene sneered, “Don’t you know the saying that you can know a person’s face, but not their heart? Honestly, you’re both cut from the same cloth.”
Stunned, Miriam snapped, “Can’t win the argument, so you go straight for low blows? No wonder Teresa ended up with a mother-in-law like you. Maybe get yourself checked out. You sound unwell.”
“How dare you?” Irene snapped, immediately telling Miriam to get lost, even shooting a glare at Heidi.
‘Look at the kind of girlfriend Edward found,’ Irene fumed inwardly.
In the end, Edward pulled Miriam away.
“Let go of me,” Miriam protested, her face flushed with anger.
“What is with your aunt? Honestly, I can’t figure her out. It’s like she’s from another planet. I have no idea what goes on in her head,” she exclaimed, still fuming.
‘If I had a mother-in-law like that, I’d never get married. How did Teresa put up with Jonathan’s mom for two whole years?’ Miriam thought, shaking her head in disbelief.
Chapter 845
Edward put on a mock-serious face and said, “Miriam, that was…”
Miriam pouted, feeling a little wronged, “What? Are you mad at me or something? Gonna yell at me?”
“That was…” Edward started, then paused.
Then Edward gave her a big thumbs up. “That was awesome. Couldn’t have said it better myself,” he said.
Miriam was speechless, thrown for a loop.
Edward leaned in and whispered in her ear, “Honestly, I think Irene is way too much. Nothing good ever happens when she shows up at my place.”
Miriam gave him a playful punch and said, “You scared me. I thought you were about to chew me out or something.”
Edward shrugged and added, “It doesn’t bother me. I’m not close to Irene anyway, but I am close to Jonathan. Just don’t say bad things about him or my mom, that’s all.”
Miriam smirked, “I’m not stupid. Of course I wouldn’t say anything like that right in front of you, hmph.”
