Chapter 829
Miriam explained, โJonathan invested in us, and a bunch of big shots from Jarisburg are lining up to collaborate with us now. Those companies that backed out before are all regretting it, and theyโre practically begging to collaborate with us. The business departmentโs phones have been ringing off the hook this morning!โ
Teresa fell silent. After a long pause, she finally asked, โReally? Did he invest under the name of Horizonlead Group?โ
Miriam said, โOf course! See, with Jonathan backing us up, we really donโt have to worry about a thing. Now we can finally feel at ease.โ
The companyโs big mess got sorted out overnight. It was supposed to be something worth celebrating, but no matter what, Teresa just couldnโt feel happy about it.
She told Miriam sheโd go back to Nareigh today. After hanging up, she finally checked the exec group chat and saw all the new messages. Everyone was celebrating that the company had made it through the crisis.
Teresa finally felt like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders as she scrolled through the chat. Then she noticed Evelyn had just transferred her 9 thousand dollars.
Feeling confused, Teresa called Evelyn.
Evelyn asked, โTeresa, when are you coming back?โ
โIโm heading back today. But whatโs with the 9 grand you just transferred me?โ Teresa replied.
Evelyn said, โI remember Jonathanโs birthday is in November. Why donโt you pick out a proper birthday present for him? Heโs done so much for our familyโyour brother waking up is more than half thanks to him. He got us the best doctors and medical care, helped with the lawsuit against Peggy, and when I fainted, he stayed up all night looking after me, never once complaining.โ
Teresa froze. She thought, โMom fainted? When did that happen?โ
Evelyn suddenly realized she had let it slip. She knew she couldnโt hide it anymore, so she hurried to explain, โItโs all in the past now. Jonathan didnโt want me to tell you. He was afraid youโd worry.โ
Teresa said, โWhat happened, Mom? Iโm your daughter. How could you not tell me you were sick?โ
Evelyn quickly reassured her, โDonโt worry. It was back when Lucas was still unconscious. I was just completely worn out from worry and exhaustion, so I fainted at the hospital. Jonathan stayed up all night to take care of me.โ
It wasnโt until Evelyn mentioned exactly when she fainted that Teresa felt a jolt run through her. That was the day before she and Jonathan had that blowout fight, when she kicked him out of Rosary Estates.
She remembered the bloodshot eyes he had, but sheโd just assumed heโd been out all night at the party, flirting with other women and doing his own thing. She never wouldโve guessed heโd actually spent the whole night looking after her mom.
Evelyn said, โTeresa, you really need to thank Jonathan properly. Letโs have him over for a proper dinner.โ
Teresa kept silent.
โDid you hear me?โ Evelyn pressed.
Evelynโs second prompt finally pulled Teresa out of her thoughts. She said, โOkay. Iโll make sure to thank him properly.โ
She had no idea Jonathan had done so much for her behind the scenes. He even took care of all the trouble at her company without her even knowing. Right then, she realized she really owed him an apology.
Teresa threw back the blanket and got out of bed. Still in her hospital gown, she rushed out of the room. She thought Jonathan would be waiting right outside, but there was no one there.
She looked around in a panic, searching desperately for any sign of him. She wondered, โDid he just walk away and leave me here by myself?
Then she remembered what he had said about her phone. She reached for her phone to call him, only to realize heโd left it on the table.
Following the railing for support, Teresa finally spotted that familiar figure downstairs. Jonathan was waiting in line at the pharmacy. She couldnโt hold back any longer. Then she rushed into the elevator and hurried down.
Jonathan had just finished paying and was about to turn away when, out of nowhere, a pair of arms wrapped tightly around him from behind. He turned slightly and caught a glimpse of Teresa. He was momentarily stunned.
โIโm sorry,โ Teresa said softly, hugging his waist from behind and resting her head against his back.
