Chapter 823
After hanging up, Teresa made a stop at the hospital first. But Evelyn and Lucas had already left. She was just a step too late; the ward was empty.
The nurse, noticing Teresaโs pregnant belly, couldnโt help but worry about her. She asked, โAre you looking for someone? Maybe you should give them a call and check?โ
Teresa called Evelyn, who said, โTeresa, Lucas has already been discharged. Weโre packing our things and about to head to the airport.โ
โYouโre heading back to Nareigh?โ Teresa asked.
โYeah, arenโt you in Nareigh?โ Evelyn replied.
โIโm actually in Jarisburg now. I thought you guys were still here, so I came by the hospital to see Lucas,โ Teresa said, running her hand through her long hair.
Evelyn let out a surprised gasp. โOh, you silly girl! Well, you should hurry back. Weโre just about to leave.โ
Teresa said, โOkay. Once you get to the airport, stop by my office first. Mike is in my lounge. My secretary is watching him while he sleeps. Just pick him up and take him back to Rosary Estates. Let Lucas stay there for now. When I get back, Iโll arrange a place for you to stay.โ
Evelyn said, โOkay.โ
Just as Teresa was about to hang up, she suddenly asked, โOh, do you know where Jonathan is? Is he heading back to Nareigh with you?โ
โJonathan went off to take care of some business. I think heโs attending a business party at Prosper Group,โ Evelyn replied.
Teresa replied, โGot it.โ
After hanging up, Teresa didnโt even have a second to feel sad or take a break. She pulled out her phone, quickly found the address of the business party, and then flagged down a taxi to go there.
By the time she arrived, the city was just coming alive with lights. The grand building was ablaze with activity, and the opulent first-floor lobby was buzzing with distinguished guests.
Jonathan, with one hand casually in his pocket and dressed in a deep black suit, moved with ease among the cityโs elite businessmen.
There was a faint smile on his face, but it was never quite genuine โ more like a mask of courtesy and distance.
โMr. Lynn, Iโve heard so much about you. Hereโs my business cardโฆโ All around, business owners eager to collaborate with Horizonlead Group came up to him.
Jonathan accepted their cards and played along with their small talk, but he could see right through their ambitions and schemes.
With Horizonlead Groupโs current success, he was the one calling the shots now, picking and choosing who was worthy of working with him.
โLetโs talk business in detail some other time,โ Jonathan said with a polite smile, raising his glass for a toast. The other man made sure his glass was lower than Jonathanโs โ a clear sign he knew who was in charge.
But in his heart, he was thinking, โMan, this guy is tough to crack.โ He couldnโt help but pull out every trick he had, hoping to win Jonathan over.
Jonathanโs phone buzzed again. He excused himself and stepped aside to answer, but then he saw it was just someone from the company, not Teresa.
He thought, โItโs been a whole day, and she still hasnโt even tried to contact me.โ
โMr. Lynn, tomorrow is the regular board meeting; should we postpone it?โ the caller asked.
โNo need. Iโll be back in Nareigh tomorrow,โ Jonathan replied.
โOkay, Mr. Lynn,โ the caller replied.
After hanging up, Jonathan scrolled to Teresaโs number and glanced at it a couple of times, frowning. Then he put his phone back into his pocket.
Outside the building, Teresa stepped out of the taxi and glanced up at the sign. When she spotted โHorizonlead Groupโ on the list, her frown finally relaxed. She thought, โHe really is here!โ
When she was about to go in, the security guard at the entrance stopped her. โMaโam, do you have an invitation?โ
Teresa shook her head and quickly said, โNo, I donโt have an invitation. Iโm just here to see someone.โ
โDoesnโt matter who youโre here to see. If you have no invitation, you canโt get in,โ the security guard said.
