Chapter 814

Jonathan said, โ€œIโ€™ve been running around taking care of your familyโ€™s mess. I even went all the way to Jarisburg just to help your brother wake up sooner.โ€

Teresa cut him off. โ€œDonโ€™t say you did all that just for my brother or my family. If you really cared so much, you wouldnโ€™t have gone to that party yesterday.โ€

She thought, โ€˜He was surrounded by gorgeous women. He mustโ€™ve enjoyed it, huh?โ€™

Jonathan didnโ€™t notice the hint of jealousy in Teresaโ€™s eyes. His face darkened. โ€œDo you think Iโ€™m some kind of superhero? Iโ€™m just a guy with my own life. I canโ€™t always drop everything for you. Iโ€™ve already done everything I could to help Lucas.โ€

โ€œYeah, youโ€™ve helped my family a lot, and Iโ€™m grateful for that. But let me ask you. Why are you helping me so much? Isnโ€™t it just because you want me to rest and have a healthy pregnancy?โ€ Teresa said.

โ€œYes, I want you to rest and have a healthy pregnancy,โ€ Jonathan replied.

Teresa said, โ€œSo itโ€™s all about the baby, right? If it werenโ€™t for the baby, I wouldnโ€™t be stuck like this. Otherwise, I could handle my familyโ€™s problems myself, even if it meant running back and forth to Jarisburg. If it werenโ€™t for the baby, would you even bother with me now?โ€

Jonathan narrowed his eyes and fell silent. He hadnโ€™t slept at all last night. Teresaโ€™s mom had fainted and was hospitalized with high blood pressure. After the charity dinner, he rushed straight to the hospital and stayed up all night taking care of her. Afraid Teresa would overthink things and get jealous of him attending the party, heโ€™d booked the earliest flight back to Nareigh just to see her and the baby.

Heโ€™d been holding back his frustration the entire way. Now, looking at her, he realized with a bitter feeling, โ€˜So this is what she really thinks of me.โ€™

Then he said, โ€œYouโ€™re right. If it werenโ€™t for the baby, I wouldโ€™ve walked away from you a long time ago!โ€

Teresa gave a cold, mocking laugh. She thought, โ€˜See? Irene was right about everything. If it werenโ€™t for the baby, weโ€™d have cut ties a long time ago.โ€™

She said, โ€œI donโ€™t need your pity. Just move out. We shouldnโ€™t be living together anymore. I donโ€™t want your family seeing you here and making it look like Iโ€™m the one pestering you!โ€

โ€œYou want me to move out? Are you sure about that?โ€ Jonathan shot back.

โ€œOf course. Donโ€™t let the door hit you on the way out,โ€ Teresa replied.

Jonathan felt speechless. Then he said, โ€œFine. Youโ€™ve really got some nerve, Teresa. But donโ€™t regret it after you kick me out this time.โ€

โ€œI wonโ€™t regret this. I can look after myself just fine,โ€ Teresa said firmly. โ€œIโ€™ll make sure the baby is born safe and sound. When the time comes, you can just come and take a look at the baby. Thatโ€™s all.โ€

Jonathan gave her a deep glance and then said in a low voice, โ€œAlright.โ€ Then he stormed out and slammed the door behind him.

From the balcony, Teresa watched his Maybach drive away. She pulled the curtains shut and thought, โ€˜Just go back to your mom! Itโ€™s honestly better this way. Now Mike and I can finally have some peace. I got by just fine before he showed up, and I can do it again. Iโ€™ll make sure the baby is born safe and sound, with or without him. At least now I wonโ€™t have to deal with his mom coming after me every time something goes wrong, and he never takes it seriously anyway. After all, in his mind, the only reason heโ€™s defending me is because of the baby.โ€™

Teresa crouched down on the floor, and her belly started to ache in sharp, painful waves. She told herself, โ€˜Heโ€™s not worth it. Itโ€™s really not that big of a deal, right?โ€™ She sat down on the couch and took slow, deep breaths.

She whispered, โ€œItโ€™s okay, sweetie, Iโ€™m not mad. Really, Iโ€™m not. I promise Iโ€™ll keep you safe and bring you into this world just fine."
