Chapter 814
Jonathan said, โIโve been running around taking care of your familyโs mess. I even went all the way to Jarisburg just to help your brother wake up sooner.โ
Teresa cut him off. โDonโt say you did all that just for my brother or my family. If you really cared so much, you wouldnโt have gone to that party yesterday.โ
She thought, โHe was surrounded by gorgeous women. He mustโve enjoyed it, huh?โ
Jonathan didnโt notice the hint of jealousy in Teresaโs eyes. His face darkened. โDo you think Iโm some kind of superhero? Iโm just a guy with my own life. I canโt always drop everything for you. Iโve already done everything I could to help Lucas.โ
โYeah, youโve helped my family a lot, and Iโm grateful for that. But let me ask you. Why are you helping me so much? Isnโt it just because you want me to rest and have a healthy pregnancy?โ Teresa said.
โYes, I want you to rest and have a healthy pregnancy,โ Jonathan replied.
Teresa said, โSo itโs all about the baby, right? If it werenโt for the baby, I wouldnโt be stuck like this. Otherwise, I could handle my familyโs problems myself, even if it meant running back and forth to Jarisburg. If it werenโt for the baby, would you even bother with me now?โ
Jonathan narrowed his eyes and fell silent. He hadnโt slept at all last night. Teresaโs mom had fainted and was hospitalized with high blood pressure. After the charity dinner, he rushed straight to the hospital and stayed up all night taking care of her. Afraid Teresa would overthink things and get jealous of him attending the party, heโd booked the earliest flight back to Nareigh just to see her and the baby.
Heโd been holding back his frustration the entire way. Now, looking at her, he realized with a bitter feeling, โSo this is what she really thinks of me.โ
Then he said, โYouโre right. If it werenโt for the baby, I wouldโve walked away from you a long time ago!โ
Teresa gave a cold, mocking laugh. She thought, โSee? Irene was right about everything. If it werenโt for the baby, weโd have cut ties a long time ago.โ
She said, โI donโt need your pity. Just move out. We shouldnโt be living together anymore. I donโt want your family seeing you here and making it look like Iโm the one pestering you!โ
โYou want me to move out? Are you sure about that?โ Jonathan shot back.
โOf course. Donโt let the door hit you on the way out,โ Teresa replied.
Jonathan felt speechless. Then he said, โFine. Youโve really got some nerve, Teresa. But donโt regret it after you kick me out this time.โ
โI wonโt regret this. I can look after myself just fine,โ Teresa said firmly. โIโll make sure the baby is born safe and sound. When the time comes, you can just come and take a look at the baby. Thatโs all.โ
Jonathan gave her a deep glance and then said in a low voice, โAlright.โ Then he stormed out and slammed the door behind him.
From the balcony, Teresa watched his Maybach drive away. She pulled the curtains shut and thought, โJust go back to your mom! Itโs honestly better this way. Now Mike and I can finally have some peace. I got by just fine before he showed up, and I can do it again. Iโll make sure the baby is born safe and sound, with or without him. At least now I wonโt have to deal with his mom coming after me every time something goes wrong, and he never takes it seriously anyway. After all, in his mind, the only reason heโs defending me is because of the baby.โ
Teresa crouched down on the floor, and her belly started to ache in sharp, painful waves. She told herself, โHeโs not worth it. Itโs really not that big of a deal, right?โ She sat down on the couch and took slow, deep breaths.
She whispered, โItโs okay, sweetie, Iโm not mad. Really, Iโm not. I promise Iโll keep you safe and bring you into this world just fine."
