Chapter 813

Jonathan had no idea that Teresa would secretly use her own stash of money to help out whenever his family needed it, covering a lot of their expenses behind the scenes.

Not wanting to hurt his pride as a man, she always told everyone the money was from Jonathan. Since her own family was rarely together, she truly treated Jonathanโ€™s family as her own.

Teresa snapped back to reality and said, โ€œHayden, itโ€™s all in the past. I really donโ€™t want to talk about it anymore.โ€

At twenty-two, she was young and clueless, thinking marriage would last forever. She didnโ€™t overthink it. Even though the wedding was simple, her family didnโ€™t give their blessing, only a few friends showed up, and the dowry was just 9 thousand, she still said yes.

She didnโ€™t care about all the formalities. She was the kind of woman who, once she fell for someone, never bothered to weigh the pros and cons.

She chose him, only cared about who he was as a person, and just wanted to spend her life with him. After the divorce, her only regret was not getting to know his family and his past sooner.

As Hayden was about to leave, Teresa stood up. โ€œHayden, let me walk you out.โ€

โ€œTeresa.โ€ At the door, Hayden turned around. He said sincerely, โ€œRemember what I told you. In my heart, youโ€™re always the best, the brightest, and the most genuine Teresa. And youโ€™ll always be my favorite granddaughter-in-law. Our family will always welcome you.โ€

โ€œThank you, Hayden,โ€ Teresa replied. After Hayden left, she went to wash her face, washing away the tears.

โ€œMom, were you crying?โ€ Michael asked, leaning against the wall and looking at Teresa with concern.

โ€œNo, my eyes just ached a little.โ€ Teresa sniffled, grabbed a towel, and dried her face.

โ€œMom, are you carrying a baby?โ€ Michael asked again.

Teresa froze for a second and instinctively glanced down at her belly. She thought, โ€˜Did Mike actually notice something?โ€˜

Michael said, โ€œGrandpa Werner secretly asked me if you were carrying a baby. I told him I had no idea. Mom, are you really carrying a baby?โ€

Teresa didnโ€™t expect that Werner, a grown-up, would secretly ask a kid something like that.

She didnโ€™t hide it from Michael anymore. She smiled and admitted, โ€œYes, Iโ€™m carrying a baby, but this is my little secret.โ€

โ€œMom, is this a secret that even Mr. Lime isnโ€™t supposed to know?โ€ Michael asked.

โ€œHe knows,โ€ Teresa replied.

โ€œOh, I get it. So itโ€™s a secret just for the four of usโ€”me, Mr. Lime, you, and the baby, right?โ€ Michael grinned.

Teresa crouched down and said softly, โ€œYou can think of it that way. Itโ€™s one way to keep the baby safe.โ€

โ€œRoger that!โ€ Michael raised his little hand. โ€œIโ€™ll definitely protect you and the baby!โ€

Teresa smiled. โ€œThen your younger brother is counting on you, Mike.โ€

โ€œWow!โ€ The little guy, a beat behind, suddenly jumped up in excitement. He said with a flush, โ€œIโ€”Iโ€™m gonna have a younger brother?!โ€

Teresa loosened her waistband and guided Michaelโ€™s little hand onto her belly. โ€œYou can try to feel your brotherโ€™s heartbeat.โ€

โ€œWow, really?โ€ Michael rested his hand on Teresaโ€™s belly, holding his breath in anticipation.

โ€œDo you feel anything?โ€ Teresa asked softly.

Michael shook his head with a little pout. โ€œBut Mom, I donโ€™t feel anything at all.โ€

Teresa chuckled. โ€œHeโ€™s just sleeping right now. When he wakes up, heโ€™ll start kicking my belly.โ€

Michael immediately pointed at Teresaโ€™s belly and said seriously, โ€œHey, little guy, listen up! You have to be good and stop kicking Momโ€™s belly, okay? It hurts her! Promise youโ€™ll be a good baby. Did you hear me?โ€

Teresa couldnโ€™t help but laugh. She pulled Michael into her arms and said, โ€œHe said yes.โ€

Michael looked up at her with bright eyes and said, โ€œMom, when is he going to come out of your belly? I really want him to play with me soon!โ€

โ€œWell, probably in about three more months,โ€ Teresa replied.

Michael counted on his little fingers. Then he hugged Teresa tightly and said, โ€œMom, when he comes out, can he call Mr. Lime โ€˜Dadโ€™, too?โ€

Teresa nodded. She thought, โ€˜Of course. After all, heโ€™s also Jonathanโ€™s child.โ€˜

โ€œThatโ€™s awesome!โ€ Michael spun around in excitement. โ€œNow Mr. Lime gets another family member! Heโ€™s definitely going to be super happy!โ€

Teresa looked at Michael and asked gently, โ€œAnd what about you? Are you really happy? Wonโ€™t you be mad?โ€

Michael cocked his head to the side, a little puzzled. โ€œMom, why would I be mad?โ€

โ€œI was just afraid you might not be happy about me having another child,โ€ Teresa said softly.

โ€œIโ€™m not upset at all! Mom, you get another family member, Mr. Lime gets another family member, and I get a little brother to play with. I canโ€™t be happier!โ€ Michael beamed.

Teresa hugged him tightly. โ€œThank you, sweetie.โ€ She was so thankful for him. Somehow, he always managed to heal her.

That night, after Michael had fallen asleep, Teresa heard the door open. She paused, and then stepped out of the bedroom to take a look. Then she saw that Jonathan was back.

They met each otherโ€™s gaze. Jonathan was loosening his tie while taking a call. Teresa could hear Ireneโ€™s voice on the other end. She noticed Jonathanโ€™s brow furrow slightly as he said, โ€œGot it.โ€

He ended the call. Then he turned to Teresa and asked, โ€œWhereโ€™s Mike?โ€

Teresa replied coldly, โ€œHeโ€™s asleep.โ€

Jonathan went to check on Michael. It had been a few days since heโ€™d last seen Michael.

Jonathan gently tucked the blanket around him, and then softly caressed his little hands, arms, and his small, sleeping face. His eyes softened with all the love a father could have for his son.

Teresa said, โ€œDonโ€™t wake him up. Come out.โ€

Jonathan didnโ€™t know what to say.

Leaning against the doorway, Teresa didnโ€™t bother to hide her irritation. She said, โ€œDidnโ€™t your mom just call you? If youโ€™re busy, then just go home.โ€

Jonathan stared at her and frowned. โ€œWhat are you even mad about?โ€

โ€œWhat do I have to be mad about? By the wayโ€”โ€ Teresa turned and headed into the kitchen, pulling out a few gift boxes.

She said, โ€œYour grandpa and Werner stopped by today and dropped off some food. You can just take it all back with you. I really canโ€™t finish it.โ€

Jonathan just left the boxes on the floor and raised an eyebrow. โ€œSo youโ€™re really this upset just because I sent Mike to my home without telling you?โ€

โ€œYeah, I am,โ€ Teresa replied, taking a slow, deep breath.

โ€œWe agreed to co-parent, but you still took him to your home to see his grandma without telling me, didnโ€™t you? Next time, you need to let me know first!โ€ she said.

Jonathan shot back, โ€œAre you saying he canโ€™t even see his grandma? Iโ€™m his dad. Donโ€™t I get a say in even something this small?โ€

Teresa said, โ€œI never said he couldnโ€™t see his grandma. Just donโ€™t forget that Mikeโ€™s household registration is still with me. He shares my last name, and Iโ€™m his primary guardian.โ€

Every word she said drew a line between them, and Jonathanโ€™s voice instantly went cold.
