Chapter 799

โ€œIโ€™m sorry. My selfishness and recklessness put your pregnancy at risk. I am really sorry,โ€ Jennifer said.

Teresa kept silent for a while and then said, โ€œJust promise you wonโ€™t do anything reckless again, okay? Weโ€™re all really worried about you.โ€

โ€œSure,โ€ Jennifer replied. Then she asked, โ€œYou didnโ€™t tell Evelyn about what happened, did you?โ€

Of course, Teresa wouldnโ€™t say anything. With Lucas still in a coma at the hospital, if Evelyn found out about Jenniferโ€™s suicide attempt, sheโ€™d probably be the next one to collapse.

โ€œHonestly, you didnโ€™t really want to die, did you?โ€ Teresa asked.

Jennifer gave a bitter, wry smile. She lowered her head and nodded slowly. โ€œWhen I was dangling there, in that moment, I suddenly realized I regretted it. Dyingโ€ฆ is actually really scary. Living is better, after all,โ€ she admitted.

โ€œThen cherish your life,โ€ Teresa said.

โ€œI promise,โ€ Jennifer said, giving Teresa a real smile for the first time in ages. โ€œIโ€™ll really live my life from now on.โ€

โ€œSure,โ€ Teresa responded. She noticed that Jennifer looked so much better today. It was obvious sheโ€™d worked through a lot. She finally felt at ease.

โ€œHere, this is for you,โ€ Jennifer said, cutting to the chase. She took the Mercedes keys out of her bag and handed them to Teresa.

โ€œThis is the car you bought for me. You should keep it. Drive it if you want, or if you donโ€™t, just have a friend sell it at a used car lot,โ€ Jennifer said.

โ€œWhatโ€™s this supposed to mean?โ€ Teresa asked.

โ€œDonโ€™t get the wrong idea,โ€ Jennifer explained. โ€œFirst off, you bought this car for me, so it really should go back to you. Besides, Iโ€™m leaving Nareigh, so I wonโ€™t need it anymore.โ€

Teresa froze for a moment and asked, โ€œYouโ€™re leaving Nareigh?โ€

Jennifer gave a little nod and handed Teresa her plane ticket. Teresa glanced at it. It was a flight from Nareigh to the northwest, leaving the day after tomorrow.

Jennifer said, โ€œHonestly, Iโ€™ve always wanted to check out the northwest. There arenโ€™t many people out there, and I want to see the grasslands, wetlands, blue skies, and white clouds.

โ€œIโ€™m planning to wander around for a couple of weeks, clear my head, and then come back to finalize the divorce.โ€

Teresa was stunned again. โ€œYou two are still getting divorced? Did Donald agree with it?โ€ she asked.

โ€œYeah, weโ€™re both on the same page. Weโ€™re sticking with the divorce. Once the cooling-off period is over, weโ€™ll make it official,โ€ Jennifer said.

It was just like what happened to Donaldโ€™s parents. Werner and Cathy had already divorced. And now, Donald and Jennifer were getting divorced, too.

Teresa looked at Jennifer and noticed the tears welling up in her eyes. โ€œYou still love him, donโ€™t you? Then why are you getting divorced?โ€ Teresa asked.

She had thought that once Jennifer and Donald cleared up their misunderstandings, they wouldnโ€™t go through with the divorce.

After all, in that moment when Jennifer was about to fall from the building, Donald held onto her with all his strength. They both loved each other, obviously.

Jennifer shot back, โ€œCome on, you still have feelings for Jonathan, but you divorced him, too. So who are you to judge me?โ€

Teresa fell silent. Jennifer knew what she was thinking and just said with a smile, โ€œI know, youโ€™re still hung up on Jonathan. If he can handle his mom, maybe you should really consider remarrying him.

โ€œYou two have two kids now. Raising them alone is just too much for you. Let him share the responsibility.โ€

Teresa was stunned that these words were actually coming from Jennifer. Jennifer used to be so controlling and would rather die than see her get back with Jonathan. Yet now, she was actually seeing things from Teresaโ€™s perspective and encouraging her to remarry.

โ€œAnd what about you and Donald?โ€ Teresa asked.

โ€œIโ€™m not like you,โ€ Jennifer said, shaking her head. โ€œDonald and I donโ€™t have any kids, so things arenโ€™t that messy. Once weโ€™re divorced, thatโ€™s probably it for us. Just a clean break.โ€ As for the future, she didnโ€™t know what would happen.

โ€œSo what about after the divorce? Where are you planning to go?โ€ Teresa asked.
