Chapter 787
Jennifer thought, "The homewrecker who ruined someone elseโs relationship. The scammer who was even rumored to be involved in something obscene. The liar with no conscience who even mistreated her own adopted son. The woman who called me a worthless daughter, who never wanted me, and who hated and despised me. That woman is actually my real mother."
Jennifer once believed she could change at least something about her life. At the very least, she thought her own life could be bent, even just a little bit. But in the end, some things were just unchangeable from the moment she was born.
โYou have arrived at Nareigh International Airport. Please remember to take all your belongings with you,โ the announcement echoed through the terminal.
Jennifer came back to herself and wiped away her tears. She was the last passenger to board.
At the hospital, Donald couldnโt shake this uneasy feeling, like something bad was about to happen. He went downstairs to the break room to grab a cup of coffee, hoping to wake himself up a bit.
He thought about Jennifer. "She said sheโs fine, but is she really?" Just as he was lost in his thoughts, there was a sudden bang. A young intern accidentally bumped into him, and his cup fell to the ground, shattering into pieces.
โIโm so sorry, Dr. Lynn. I didnโt mean to,โ the intern said, biting her lip. Then she quickly crouched down to help Donald pick up the broken pieces.
Donald gave the girl a polite smile. After all, she didnโt do it on purpose.
โDr. Lynn,โ the young intern suddenly mustered up her courage and grabbed his fingers. She said with a blush, โIโve fallen for you.โ
Donald was stunned for a moment. He gently pulled his fingers away and said, โIโm sorry, but Iโm already married.โ
โOh? Is that so? Iโm so sorry. I didnโt know you were married. I just started working here a few days ago, and I always see you by yourselfโeating alone, leaving alone. Iโm so sorry to bother you,โ the intern blurted out.
Then she turned and dashed off.
Donald let out a sigh and stood up. He didnโt take it seriously and just made his way back to his office.
On his way, he bumped into a colleague. The colleague said, โHey, Donald, is Jennifer back on duty or something?โ
โWhat are you talking about?โ Donald looked puzzled.
โOh, isnโt Jennifer back? I just saw her at the hospital. She looked like she was in a real hurry and left super fast. I even called her name, but she didnโt seem to hear me. She was gone in a flash,โ the colleague said.
Donald froze on the spot. He asked urgently, โWhen did you see her?โ
โAbout three minutes ago. Why?โ the colleague replied.
Suddenly, something clicked in Donaldโs mind, and then he took off running. Jennifer had already gotten into a cab.
When the driver asked where she wanted to go, she didnโt even respond. She just stared blankly ahead, feeling desperate.
The cab eventually pulled over on some random street, and she handed over the fare before stepping out. Her mind kept replaying that sceneโDonaldโs hand in that young internโs grip.
The sun was warm today, but it couldnโt warm her heart anymore. She thought, "So, the man I love most has already fallen for someone else, and my real mother turns out to be the woman I despise most in this world."
Everything that could break her happened all in one day.
Peggyโs words echoed in her mind, "If the hospital hadnโt refused to terminate the pregnancy, do you really think I wouldโve wanted to have you? I never wanted you. I should never have given birth to you."
Jennifer thought, "Yeah, she was right. Just like she said, I shouldnโt have been born. I shouldnโt even be alive. Everything about me has been wrong from the very start. Maybe itโs time for me to disappear.
After all, if I were gone, the world wouldnโt even notice. Iโm just a total mistake. Iโve never been loved, not even once. Maybe itโs time for me to be gone from this world for good."
She took a deep breath, turned around, and walked away.
