Jonathanโs lips curled into a small smile. He had to admit that his son really was the cutest.
Once they were out of the airport, a black Rolls-Royce Cullinan pulled up next to Jonathan. Seeing Lucas standing by the side of the road, looking a bit lost with his phone out, Jonathan said, โHop in. Weโll give you a ride.โ
Lucasโs eyes widened when he saw the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. โSo this guyโs a big shot,โ he thought. But he quickly waved his hands and said, โThanks, but I canโt trouble you.โ
โItโs okay,โ Jonathan said. โWeโre going the same way.โ
Lucas hesitated but eventually gave in and got into the car, thanking Jonathan several times. He really wasnโt the type to accept help easily.
As Lucas settled into his seat, Jonathan caught a glimpse of his profile and found himself spacing out again for a moment. โHe really does look a lot like Teresa. Am I just overthinking this?โ he wondered.
Meanwhile, Lucas was holding Michaelโs little hand, and the two of them hit it off right away, chatting and playing together.
Jonathan kept stealing glances at Lucas. After the car had driven for a while, something suddenly occurred to him, and he asked, โBy the way, you said you just got back from Cerein?โ
โYeah, but I grew up here in Clusia. My familyโs all Clusian. My mom took me abroad later,โ Lucas replied. When he mentioned his mother, his lips tightened a bit, and there was a flash of discomfort in his expression.
Jonathan stroked his chin and suddenly thought of Evelynโs cousin, Peggy, whom heโd been helping Teresa investigate. Sheโd been to Cerein, too, but she had recently come back to Clusia. And Peggy had a son who might actually be Teresaโs biological brother.
Thinking about it, Jonathan thought Lucas really did resemble Teresa a bit. He pondered, โIf his last name was Davisโฆ Well, could it beโฆโ
However, Jonathan decided to keep his suspicions to himself for now. He looked at Lucas and said, โWeโre all Clusians here. Iโm Jonathan Lynn. Nice to meet you.โ
โNice to meet you too, Mr. Lynn,โ Lucas replied, shaking Jonathanโs hand. โJust call me Lucas.โ
โLucas, huh?โ Jonathan thought, raising an eyebrow. โSo whatโs your last name?โ
โItโs a secret,โ Lucas replied. He didnโt bother to tell others his last name, which he didnโt like at all.
A hint of disappointment flashed in Jonathanโs eyes. โGuess I really was just overthinking things. What are the odds heโd actually be Teresaโs brother?โ he thought to himself.
โDad!โ Michael called out, pressing his face against the car window and turning to look at Jonathan. โI see your school.โ
Jonathan glanced up and spotted the entrance to Querencia University. He smiled and asked, โHow do you know I went there?โ
โMom told me. She said I should look up to you and follow your lead,โ Michael replied.
Jonathan ruffled Michaelโs hair affectionately.
Lucas couldnโt help but think Jonathan must be a really impressive guy because he had this quiet confidence and a certain presence about him.
โMr. Lynn, if you want, you can just let me off here. I can find my own way to Jarisburg Film Academy,โ he said.
โItโs only a couple more miles. Letโs drop you off there,โ Jonathan replied.
โThanks a lot,โ Lucas said.
When they finally arrived at their destination, Lucas insisted on transferring the fare to Jonathan via his phone, but Jonathan just waved him off.
Lucas looked a little embarrassed, his shy face tinged with awkwardness. He really didnโt like taking advantage of someoneโs kindness.
He rummaged through his bag and pulled out the rosary he got from the church, handing it to Michael. He thought to himself, โLet this count as the fare.โ
Michael loved the rosary and immediately hung it on his backpack. Jonathan didnโt stop him.
โDad, I wanna take a picture and send it to Mom. The gentleman whoโs gonna be a big star just gave me a present!โ Michael said excitedly.
