Chapter 740
Teresa shrugged. โMakes sense. Iโll transfer the money to you tomorrow.โ
Jonathan frowned, his piercing eyes shooting Teresa a sharp look.
โJust treat it as my rent for staying here, plus child support for Mike. I was going to pay you anyway. If you give it back, Iโll just have to pay you again later. Itโs just an unnecessary hassle. Alright, letโs eat,โ he said.
Obviously, he didnโt like how she kept everything so calculated, so Teresa just dropped it.
After they finished eating, she finally said, her words carrying extra weight, โThank you.โ
Jonathan smiled slightly. โI should be the one saying thank you. I havenโt even thanked you for bringing Mike into the world and raising him alone. You had to go grocery shopping, haggle with shop owners over prices, and work while taking care of the kid. Itโs tough. But luckily, Mike is such a good boy.โ
Teresa was stunned. โHow does he know all these details?โ she wondered.
โI happened to come across that letter of yours,โ Jonathan explained.
Teresa was speechless. โIโve torn that letter to pieces and tossed it in the trash. How did he even see it?โ she thought, stunned.
Jonathan added, โRelax, I didnโt go through any of your stuff in the bedroom. I just saw your trash can hadnโt been emptied. When I was taking out the garbage, I happened to notice it.โ
Teresaโs feelings were complicated, her nose tingling with emotion. โForget about that letter. You donโt have to take it seriously.โ
โI canโt,โ Jonathan said, his eyes deep and serious.
Teresa was all mixed up inside. They werenโt married anymore, but her connection with Jonathan was oddโlike a bond they couldnโt break, and they still knew each other too well.
She looked up. โLet the past stay in the past. From now on, letโs do our best to raise Mike together.โ
Jonathan shot Teresa a look, like he wanted to say something but swallowed it back. In the end, he asked, โIs Jennifer your real sister or not?โ
โIโm not sure yet. We had our blood drawn together today for the test. Weโll only know when the results come out tomorrow,โ Teresa replied.
โHonestly, I really hope she isnโt,โ Jonathan said.
After dinner, Jonathan went to the kitchen to do the dishes. These days, he only worked at the office during the dayโno more overtime, and he didnโt even want to. His evenings were reserved for himself and his family.
Teresaโs phone rangโBenny was video calling her.
โMike misses you. Come on, say hi to your soh. He just had to video call you,โ Benny said.
As soon as the call connected, Michaelโs face popped up on the screen.
Teresa asked patiently, โMike, did Bunny bully you? Iโll help you beat him up.โ
โHey, come on. I wouldnโt dare bother your kid. You and Jonathan would gang up on me,โ Benny protested.
Teresa laughedโit was just a joke. Then she looked over at Michael.
This was Michaelโs first time traveling abroad without Teresa around. She was relieved that heโd be back tomorrow.
โMommy, I miss Mr. Lime too. Is Mr. Lime there?โ Michael asked.
โHeโs doing the dishes right now. Want to see him?โ Teresa asked.
โYes!โ Michael waved his hand eagerly.
Teresa carried her phone into the kitchen. Jonathan was still washing dishes, an apron tied around his waist. โMike wants to see you,โ she said.
Jonathan turned around, and Bennyโs cackling laughter burst through the phone. โLook at you, Jonathan, playing househusband. Never thought Iโd see the day youโre washing dishes.โ
Jonathan shot him a glare. โWhatโs so bad about washing dishes, huh?โ
He dried his hands and took the phone from Teresa. When he heard Michaelโs soft little voice say, โMr. Daddy Lime, I miss you,โ Jonathanโs heart just melted.
โSon, if that bunny tries to bully you, Daddy will beat him up for you,โ Jonathan said.
