Chapter 736
Teresaโs memories with Jennifer were mostly unpleasant. Sheโd thought how great it would be if Jennifer wasnโt her real sister. But now that it might be true, she didnโt feel happy or relieved. The feelings were too complicated to put into words.
When they were kids, Hannah and Teresa lived together, and Bradley and Natalie treated them both well. Later, she came back as Jennifer. After they reunited, Jennifer became controlling and manipulative, using family ties to control Teresa.
โIโm your real sister. Everything I do is for your own good,โ Jennifer would always say.
If she isnโt really my sister, could she say that without guilt later? Will she realize she has been wrong?
But Jennifer never showed a trace of regret. She acted so brazenly, always using the excuse that sheโs my sister.
โWhat if she really isnโt my sister? If Jonathan finds out, will he still show her mercy? And what about Donald? How will he treat Jennifer then?โ Teresa wondered. These questions kept swirling in her mind until she finally drifted off to sleep.
When morning came, Teresa found that she wasnโt the only one whoโd had a rough night.
Evelyn looked just as exhausted, with heavy, dark circles under her eyes. Teresa ran into her as she stepped out of her room.
โBy the way, whereโs Isabel?โ Teresa asked.
โSheโs staying with Charlieโs sister for a few days. His family missed her,โ Evelyn replied.
Teresa raised an eyebrow. โArenโt you worried theyโll speak ill of you in front of Isabel?โ
โWhy should I care?โ Evelyn said breezily. โIโve had full custody of Isabel. Even if they speak ill of me, Isabelโs still my kid. They wouldnโt dare try to take her from me.โ
โThatโs nice,โ Teresa said, her tone carrying a deeper meaning.
Evelyn let out a sigh. โIโve been thinking about your sister all night.โ
โWhat exactly were you thinking about?โ Teresa asked.
Evelynโs face grew serious. โIf she really isnโt my daughter, then thereโs only one explanation. The babies must have been switched at birth.โ
Teresa stayed silent, frowning. Sheโd been thinking the same thing. If Jennifer wasnโt Evelynโs real daughter, it meant a hospital swap. But accidental mix-ups were rare. โDid someone do it on purpose?โ Teresa wondered.
Just as Teresa was about to ask something else, Jenniferโs voice called out from behind them. โWhat are you two standing around for?โ
โNothing, Hannah. Letโs finish our breakfast quickly. Then weโll go get the DNA test done,โ Evelyn immediately changed the subject.
Teresa turned to head for the kitchen to help out, but Jennifer blocked her way. โForget it. Youโre the worst cook in the family. I donโt need you burning down my kitchen. If Donald comes back and sees that, heโll blame me,โ Jennifer said.
Teresa was speechless.
Evelyn stepped into the kitchen. โLet me handle it. You two just take a break.โ
โIโll do it. Youโd be lost in this kitchen,โ Jennifer said, rolling up her sleeves as she marched into the kitchen.
Teresa watched Jenniferโs back, lost in thought. This was the first time she and Evelyn had ever eaten at Jenniferโs place. Jennifer had been married for ages, but sheโd never invited them over before.
Soon, breakfast was ready. As they ate, Jennifer turned to Teresa while wiping her mouth. โBy the way, I forgot to ask yesterday. How did Miriam get my hair?โ
โShe said she got it when she went to the hospital to see you,โ Teresa replied.
Jennifer thought for a second. โSo that was why Miriam made a scene at the hospital and yanked my hair,โ she realized.
โI donโt think Miriam meant well,โ Jennifer said, sounding suspicious. โWho knows what sheโs really after with this DNA test?โ
โAlright, we already agreed yesterdayโletโs just get the DNA test done first,โ Teresa said.
