Chapter 735
โIs this photo enough to prove Iโm Hannah?โ Jennifer said, her voice steady. โGrandma took this picture of us when she and Grandpa were still alive. We each have one copy. I remember it clearly.โ
Teresaโs expression grew complicated. She never expected Jennifer to keep this photo, but Jennifer never mentioned it. The antiques in the background were her grandpaโs collections, bringing back memories. Teresa couldnโt help thinking of Bradley and Natalie.
โDid I misunderstand everything? Maybe Jennifer really is my sister. What if the report was wrong all along?โ Teresa wondered.
Evelyn held onto Jenniferโs arm. โI do believe youโre my Hannah. But the DNA test was done twice, and the results were the same. How could this happen? I just canโt wrap my head around it.โ
โLetโs just do another test,โ Teresa said after a momentโs thought, her tone steady.
โIf it turns out the results were wrong, Iโll talk to Miriam and make sure she apologizes to you,โ she promised.
โMiriam really has nothing better to do,โ Jennifer scoffed coldly. She felt this whole thing was pointless and humiliating. โWhy on earth do we even need a DNA test?โ she thought.
โWe can go to a DNA testing center, not your hospital. It wonโt embarrass you, I promise. And Iโll do the test with Mom too,โ Teresa said, determined to get to the bottom of it.
Jennifer sighed, feeling like they were just looking for trouble where there was none.
โI hope youโll agree. Mom came all the way back from Gorthany just for this,โ Teresa added.
โWhatever you want. Weโll do it tomorrow,โ Jennifer said. โItโs late. I need to get some sleep. One of my colleagues is sick and asked me to cover her shift tomorrow."
โYou two can stay here tonight. Donald wonโt be coming back.โ Without another word, she went straight to the master bedroom.
Teresa settled Evelyn in and then got ready for bed herself. As she lay down, she noticed a missed call from Jonathan. Her phone had been on silent, so she hadnโt heard it ring.
She called him back. โIโm not coming home tonight. Iโm staying at my sisterโs place with Mom. Take good care of Mike.โ
Jonathan paused for a few seconds. He noticed something off in Teresaโs voice and guessed it was about Jennifer. His thoughts drifted back to the Lynn family dinner. Teresa had gone to the bathroom with Jennifer and came back with her eyes all red.
โAre you okay?โ Jonathan asked.
โIโm fine,โ Teresa replied.
โBenny came to see me today. We talked for a while,โ Jonathan said, his words slow and heavy. โHe told me Jennifer isnโt your real sister.โ
Teresa didnโt expect Benny to tell Jonathan so fast.
โItโs not confirmed yet. I donโt know for sure,โ Teresa said.
โWant me to help out?โ Jonathan asked after a few seconds, his voice deep and quiet.
Teresa replied, โNo need. This is my familyโs issue. I can handle it myself.โ
Jonathan had expected her to say that. โAlright, do what you think is best. Just make sure you take care of yourself. Donโt skip meals. I mean, donโt let the little one inside you go hungry,โ he said.
โDonโt worry. I wonโt let your little boy go hungry,โ Teresa replied.
โMy little boy?โ Jonathan thought she was talking about Michael. โIโll take care of Mike. You just need to look after yourself,โ he said.
After the call ended, Teresaโs mind raced. โDid Jonathan misunderstand? He still doesnโt know this baby is a boy, too. Did he think it was a girl? Whatever, thatโs not important right now. What really matters is whatโs going on with Jennifer.โ
She couldnโt help but sigh inwardly, โThey say every family has its own mess, but why does mine have to be so ridiculously complicated?โ That night, Teresa barely got any sleep.
