Chapter 723

Jonathan carried Michael, with Teresa trailing behind. โ€œTeresa, youโ€™re here!โ€ Haydenโ€™s booming voice startled her. Teresa had already resolved the matter en route. โ€˜Mike was conceived before the divorce. No need to lie,โ€™ she reminded herself.

But seeing Hayden in a wheelchair and hearing his greeting first brought tears to her eyes. She said, โ€œHello, Hayden.โ€ She then greeted Werner, who sat beside him.

โ€œCome in. Letโ€™s talk inside,โ€ Hayden said, grinning broadly as he wheeled himself forward, his eyes immediately fixed on Michael.

Once in the living room, Jonathan set Michael down. โ€œMike, this is Great-Grandpa. Say hi.โ€

โ€œGreat-Grandpa,โ€ Michael chirped. Teresa had explained on the way that Hayden was Jonathanโ€™s grandfather, making him Michaelโ€™s great-grandfather. Michael was a bright child; he understood immediately.

โ€œHay, Mike,โ€ Hayden said, delightedly holding Michaelโ€™s tiny hand. The more he looked at Michael, the more he liked him.

โ€œMike, Iโ€™m Grandpa Werner,โ€ Werner said warmly, appraising Michael.

โ€œHello, Grandpa Werner,โ€ Michael replied, standing straight and greeting Werner politely.

โ€œWhat a well-behaved kid,โ€ Werner said, smiling. He thought, โ€˜He really takes after Jonathan. Such an adorable little guy.โ€™

While Hayden showered his great-grandson with affection, Jonathan looked around. โ€œWhereโ€™s Mom?โ€ he asked. Teresa wondered the same; she hadnโ€™t seen Irene.

โ€œI called her. Sheโ€™s on her way,โ€ Werner explained.

Just then, Donald and Cheryl arrived. Teresa noticed Jennifer was with them. They brought gifts. โ€œSorry weโ€™re late,โ€ Donald said.

Jonathan nodded curtly.

โ€œYouโ€™re all here,โ€ Cheryl said, touching her nose as she greeted everyone. Sheโ€™d come alone; Donald had advised against bringing Serena.

Hayden was overjoyed about his great-grandson, but he wouldn't be pleased about Cherylโ€™s unmarried pregnancy. Such news was hardly ideal for the Lynn family. Cherylโ€™s situation differed greatly from Jonathanโ€™s, especially since she didn't know her baby's father.

Cherylโ€™s thoughts were interrupted by Teresa approaching. She bit her lip and remained silent. Teresa understood; Cheryl wanted discretion. Teresa wasn't one to gossip. Then, she saw Jennifer, a surprising sight.

Jennifer glanced back at Teresa, her lips pressed together as if wanting to speak, but with Hayden present, she stayed silent.

โ€œWhatโ€™s up with you two? Whyโ€”โ€ Werner began, looking at Donald and Cheryl, clearly about to question their behavior.

But Jonathan quickly interrupted. It was best not to mention the DNA test in front of Michael. Werner fell silent.

โ€œMike,โ€ Hayden said, still holding Michaelโ€™s hand, โ€œThis is Uncle Donald, Aunt Cheryl, and Aunt Jennifer. Call them whatever you like.โ€

โ€œUncle Donald, Aunt Cherylโ€”I know them! And Aunt Jennifer, too,โ€ Michael exclaimed, but then seemed overwhelmed. He ran to Teresa, whispering, โ€œMom, Iโ€™m suddenly so confused.โ€

Teresa gently patted his head. It was clear Michael was closest to her.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Just remember me. Thatโ€™s enough,โ€ Hayden said, his gruff voice softening considerably, as if he couldn't dote on Michael enough.

Another car arrived. Irene had deliberately arrived late. She couldn't bear the thought of waiting for Teresa; it would be too humiliating.

Seeing Irene enter, puffed up and stern, Teresa took a deep breath. โ€˜Well, this was inevitable,โ€™ she thought, clenching her fists. She didn't want Michael to call Irene โ€œGrandma.โ€ The idea repulsed her.

โ€œMom,โ€ Michael said, looking up at Irene. โ€œIs that Grandma? Should I call her Grandma?โ€

Teresa sighed. โ€œYes, thatโ€™s Grandma.โ€

Michael ran to Irene. โ€œGrandma!โ€ he cried happily. โ€˜Great, Iโ€™ve greeted everyone,โ€™ he thought. Irene smiled, and he grinned back before dashing back to Teresa.

Michael tugged Teresaโ€™s hand. โ€œMom, Iโ€™ve finished greeting everyone! Iโ€™m starving. When are we eating?โ€

โ€œHungry, Mike? Letโ€™s go to a restaurant,โ€ Hayden said, wanting to jump from his wheelchair, but his legs were still weak from the stroke.

โ€œIโ€™ll call for delivery. Weโ€™ll eat at home,โ€ Jonathan said, already outside making the call.

As Jonathan left, Werner, looking stern, beckoned Donald and Cheryl. He wanted to speak privately. Hayden joined him, also wishing to speak with them.

Once alone, Jennifer approached Teresa. She was about to ask something when Irene called out from across the room, โ€œMike, come here!โ€

โ€œGrandma, what is it?โ€ Michael asked, running to her.

Teresa watched cautiously.

Irene ignored Teresa, surveying Michael. โ€œWhat a good boy. Youโ€™ve been through a lot, but now youโ€™ll enjoy life.โ€

Michael looked up. โ€œGrandma, I havenโ€™t suffered at all. Mom treats me really well.โ€

Irene raised an eyebrow. โ€œOh, really? Well, Mike, isnโ€™t it better having your dad and grandma now?โ€

โ€œMike, come here,โ€ Teresa called. Michael ran to her, and she held him close, her gaze meeting Ireneโ€™s silently.

They locked eyes in a silent contest of wills. Teresa saw the possessive anger in Ireneโ€™s eyes, the urge to take Michael away.

โ€œShould a grandma really say that to her grandson?โ€ Jennifer interjected.

Teresa glanced at Jennifer, surprised by her support.

Irene laughed coldly. โ€œWhat? I said nothing wrong. Heโ€™s my grandson. He belongs to the Lynn family. He carries our bloodline.โ€

โ€œLynn family? Mike is Teresaโ€™s! Are you trying to steal him?โ€ Jennifer retorted sharply.
