Teresa pretended to be clueless. โI donโt know what you mean.โ
Jonathanโs eyes turned icy. โHow long are you gonna keep this from me? Youโre six months pregnant. Why didnโt you tell me right away? Why do you always keep me in the dark?โ
Teresa finally looked at him and shot back, โWhy should I tell you? Weโre divorced.โ
โSo what if weโre divorced? Iโm Mikeโs dad, and Iโm also the father of the baby youโre carrying. I have the right to know about this,โ Jonathan said, his voice cold, with a hint of desperation.
โItโs not yours,โ Teresa shot back, turning her back to him in a huff.
Jonathan didnโt get mad; instead, he actually laughed. โNot mine? What, is it a ghostโs then? I did the mathโspringtime, when we were basically sharing a bed every night.โ
โYouโre full of it,โ Teresa replied, still keeping her cool.
Jonathan fixed his gaze on her, sounding absolutely certain. โWas it that night? The one when you told me we should have a kidโremember?โ
โI never told you we should have a kid. I said we already had one. You just heard what you wanted to hear. How was I supposed to know youโd skip protection that night?โ Teresa couldnโt help but sit up, glaring at his smug face.
Jonathan raised an eyebrow, looking a bit confused. โSo, were you trying to tell me about Mike that day?โ
โI donโt know,โ Teresa rolled her eyes, still sulking. โI forgot.โ
Jonathan was pissed off. โYou remembered everything a minute ago, and now you suddenly forgot? Why canโt you just be straight with me? You shouldโve told me last night that you were pregnant. If you had, I wouldnโt have almost gone overboard with you.โ
Teresa snorted. He really had almost gone too far with her last night in bed. At the time, she thought, โWhatever, just finish me off. At least then I wouldnโt have to deal with all this mess.โ
Just thinking about how he almost ended up hurting their baby last night made Jonathan feel a wave of regret. He hadnโt even bothered to slow down or be careful.
โGood thing our baby turned out fine. Remember when I took you to that expert? He said you were pregnant, but you kept insisting youโd taken contraceptive pills,โ Jonathan said, every detail coming back to him now.
โYou think I wanted to get pregnant?โ Teresa fired back. โI was planning to take the pill that day, but then my mom had to go to the hospital and I got caught up with that. I didnโt even have time to buy it.โ
โWho wouldโve thought just one time would do the trick?โ
By the time she found out she was pregnant, she just couldnโt bring herself to go through with an abortion.
Jonathan took a deep breath. โI remember you gave me a report saying you werenโt pregnant. That was Jennifer who did it, right? You had her fake it for youโagain, didnโt you?โ
Teresa finally snapped and yelled, โYeah, I had her fake it. I had everyone lie to you. Iโm guilty as charged. Just kill me already.โ
Jonathan was speechless for a moment. โIโm not here to blame you. I just want to get to the bottom of everything. I need to know the whole story.โ
โYeah, thatโs exactly what you think. I hid the truth. Iโm beyond redemption,โ Teresa muttered, yanking the covers over her head.
Jonathan and Teresa stayed locked in that standoff for a long moment before he finally managed to pull the covers off her head. Sure enough, her eyes were red and puffy. He licked his lips.
Chapter 715
โSo I canโt even ask questions now? What do you want me to do? Just sit here all calm and say, โOh, youโre pregnant, and you lied to me again. Wonderful. Should I give you a round of applause for that?โโ Jonathan said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Teresa didnโt say a word, just sniffled. Honestly, she hadnโt meant to lose her temper like that. All that calm she showed in front of others was just a mask, just her pride not wanting anyone to see how badly she was really doing.
