Chapter 713
โSix months pregnant? How is that even possible?โ Jonathan frowned deeply, his gaze fixed on Teresa lying in bed. He reached out and placed his hand over her stomach. It felt almost unreal, and his frown deepened. He asked, โSheโs really six months pregnant? Why isnโt her belly showing much at all?โ
โThatโs because the baby is carried toward the back. Itโs nothing to worry about,โ the doctor replied.
โCarried toward the back? What does that mean?โ Jonathan pressed.
The doctor handed Jonathan the test results and explained the difference between anterior and posterior fetal presentation. Usually, with a posterior presentation, the bump only becomes obvious later in pregnancy.
The real kicker was Jonathanโs complete lack of awarenessโtotally unexpected from a husband. The doctor snatched the report back and gave Jonathan a once-over. โAre you seriously her husband?โ
โI am,โ Jonathan replied with a heavy sigh. โMy wife was mad at me and never told me she was pregnant. Let me see the report again. I want to know everything about her.โ
He still couldnโt comprehend it. Now, he didnโt want to miss a single detail about her.
The doctor rolled his eyes. โWhat, are your eyes just decorations? You really couldnโt tell your wife was pregnant? And you say she was mad at you. Come on, who can stay mad for six months straight?โ
Jonathan pursed his lips, swallowing back a retort. After a moment, he sighed, โItโs my fault for not paying enough attention. So, how are my wife and the baby doing now?โ
Seeing the genuine worry in his eyes, the doctor finally handed back the report, his tone meaningful. โThe baby is safe for now, but you really need to pay more attention. Sheโs weak and malnourished. Take better care of her.โ
Jonathan felt a stab of guilt. He remembered Teresa leaving his place today without eating, in the pouring rain. And last night, he hadnโt held back. No wonder heโd sensed something was wrong.
โI understand,โ Jonathan said. After the doctor left, he gazed at Teresa. Heโd always thought heโd only have one child. He reached out, gently brushing her pale face, his eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions. His hand slid down from her shoulder and rested on her stomach again.
His brow furrowed as he remembered the day she came to the villa to pick up Michael. Was that the moment she wanted to tell me? he thought. But I threatened her so harshly that she swallowed her words and kept everything bottled up. Six monthsโshe really managed to keep it from me all this time. Thatโs some serious endurance.
Jonathan pored over Teresaโs report again, checking the number of weeks. Sheโd conceived before leaving Nareigh for Everport last year. He remembered taking her to Chicoham to see the ocean, even finding a doctor to check on her. The doctor had said she was pregnant, but she denied it. So that was when it happened, huh? When the baby had just taken root, he thought.
Memory after memory flashed through his mind. Man, I really was a fool to trust her again. Why did she have to keep it from me? he berated himself.
His phone rang; he glanced at the caller ID. He didnโt want to answer, but the calls persisted. Jonathan answered. Haydenโs booming voice filled the room. โYou little brat! Youโve got a son now? Bring my great-grandson back to me right away and explain everything to the family. Otherwise, youโre getting kicked out of the Lynn family.โ
