Chapter 700

Jonathan arched an eyebrow and asked, โ€œMuffin?โ€

โ€œMuffin is Mikeโ€™s nickname,โ€ Teresa explained.

Jonathanโ€™s lips curved slightly, seemingly amused by the nickname. He quickly composed himself and said calmly, โ€œMike is still asleep. Iโ€™ll go wake him up.โ€

Upon hearing that Teresa had arrived, Michael sprang out of bed and raced toward her.

โ€œMommy, I missed you so much,โ€ Michael said.

โ€œReally?โ€ Teresa asked with a soft, surprised smile as she squatted down and gently rubbed Michaelโ€™s face. โ€œI thought you wouldnโ€™t miss me at all.โ€

Michael pouted, โ€œHow could I not miss you?โ€

โ€œI missed you too, sweetie,โ€ Teresa gently ruffled Michaelโ€™s hair and replied.

Jonathan stood on the steps, silently watching the scene. โ€˜So this is how well they get along at home?โ€™ he thought, surprised by the natural harmony between them.

His eyes burned with intensity. At that moment, Teresaโ€™s unrestrained smile was wholly absorbed by his gaze.

Michael clung to Teresaโ€™s arm. โ€œMommy, tell me quick. Is Mr. Lime my real dad? My dad isnโ€™t that old and ugly one, but the handsome and rich Mr. Lime? Really?โ€

Teresa nodded firmly. No more excuses. This time, she wouldnโ€™t hide the truth from Michael.

โ€œYes,โ€ she confirmed softly, โ€œheโ€™s your biological father, and youโ€™re his biological son.โ€

Michael huffed, โ€œMommy, why did you lie to me before and say my daddy was old and ugly?โ€

Teresa lowered her head, at a loss for words. Just then, Jonathan descended the steps and interjected, โ€œCome here for a second, Muffin.โ€

Michaelโ€™s attention snapped to Jonathan, and he dashed over and asked, โ€œHow did you know Iโ€™m called Muffin?โ€

Jonathan pinched his cheek and smiled. โ€œOf course, your mom told me all about it,โ€ Jonathan replied.

Michael nodded curiously and asked, โ€œMr. Lime, do you know why Mommy used to say you were old and ugly?โ€

Jonathanโ€™s lips curved into a gentle smile as he picked Mike up. He said, โ€œOf course I know. You see, your mommy and I had a little misunderstanding. She was upset with me, so she didnโ€™t tell you Iโ€™m your dad.โ€

Michaelโ€™s sharp little mind quickly pieced it together. He exclaimed, โ€œI get it! Just like on TV, when people get mad, they say things they donโ€™t mean. Those angry words arenโ€™t meant to be taken seriously, right, Mommy?โ€

Jonathanโ€™s face softened with a warm tenderness. โ€œYou can look at it that way, my clever boy. So your mom wasnโ€™t trying to trick you,โ€ Jonathan added.

The doorbell rang, and Gary had arrived.

โ€œJonathan,โ€ Gary called out, surprised to see Teresa there.

Jonathan set Michael down and turned to Gary. โ€œYouโ€™ve come at just the right time,โ€ he said. โ€œYou can take Mike to handle some official business.โ€

โ€œWhat kind of business?โ€ Teresa quickly asked.

Noticing the guarded look in her eyes, Jonathan scoffed dismissively.

โ€œAn identity ID, plus mansions in Jarisburg and Cranur. You took him to Jarisburg, and I brought him to Cranur. Since he likes both, Iโ€™m buying properties in each and putting them under our sonโ€™s name,โ€ Jonathan replied.

Teresa fell silent.

Michael ran over, grabbed Teresaโ€™s hand, and exclaimed, โ€œMommy, guess what? Mr. Lime promised to give me a sports car! When I get it, Iโ€™ll take you for a spin!โ€

Gary overheard and wiped his brow awkwardly. โ€œJonathan, are you seriously going to buy Mike a sports car?โ€ he asked.

Jonathan shot back, โ€œGot a problem with that?โ€

Gary couldnโ€™t help but point out, โ€œBut Mikeโ€™s only three. He canโ€™t even drive yet.โ€

โ€œThen he can drive it when heโ€™s old enough,โ€ Jonathan said with a smug grin, looking every bit like a man who believed that with money, his child deserved only the best.

Gary chuckled as he bent down to pick up Michael. With a playful grin, he said, โ€œMike, youโ€™re so lucky! Iโ€™m jealous you have such an awesome dad. Come on, letโ€™s go get you that sports car and mansion.โ€

Saying that, Gary glanced at Teresa, sighed, then turned to Jonathan.

Gary said, โ€œJonathan, Iโ€™ll take Mike out for a bit so you two can have a good chat. Donโ€™t worry, Iโ€™ll bring him back later.โ€

Michael waved goodbye to Teresa, who gave a gentle nod. She softly reminded him, โ€œYou havenโ€™t said goodbye to your daddy yet.โ€

Michael waved his little hand at Jonathan and said, โ€œMr. Daddy Lime, Bye-bye.โ€

Hearing that long-awaited Daddy, Jonathanโ€™s brows relaxed just a little.

Jonathan knew Michael accepted him only because Teresa had acknowledged him. In the boyโ€™s heart, she came first. She had given birth to him, raised him, and stayed by his side all these years.

After Mike left, Teresa turned to Jonathan and asked, โ€œWhy did you stand up for me in front of our son just now?โ€

Jonathan dropped the subject. He took a seat and gestured for Teresa to sit as well.

Teresa looked at Jonathan and asked, โ€œYou mentioned on the phone you had something to tell me. What is it?โ€

Teresa took a seat across from him.

Teresa looked at Jonathan and said, โ€œI went to the airport this morning to see Sherry and Christian off. Thatโ€™s when I found out theyโ€™d left Nareigh. Cheryl also called me. I know youโ€™ve already settled scores with them one by one.โ€

Teresa looked up sharply and pressed, โ€œSo, whoโ€™s next on your list?โ€

โ€œSettle scores?โ€ Jonathan smirked, his eyes sharp. โ€œI warned you that anyone who kept Mike from me would pay. Most already have. As for Jennifer, Iโ€™ve reported her for forging the DNA resultsโ€ฆโ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Teresa gasped sharply, drawing in a deep breath.

Jonathanโ€™s eyes darkened as he stood and asked, โ€œWhy look at me? Since you wonโ€™t remarry me, I wonโ€™t go easy on her. I helped her get the job, but sheโ€™s unfit to be a doctor. I have every right to hold her accountable.โ€

As for the others, including Christian, Cheryl, Jennifer whom Jonathan had once helped, and even Donald, he would no longer lift a finger to help any of them.

Teresa also stood up, her gaze fixed on Jonathan. โ€œIโ€™m begging you. Spare my friends and family. This whole mess started because of me. Everyone else is innocent.โ€

Jonathan remained composed. โ€œWhat are you willing to offer in exchange for my leniency?โ€

Teresa asked, โ€œWhat do you want?โ€

Jonathan snorted, his eyes briefly scanning Teresa. โ€œWhat can you offer? You donโ€™t earn as much as I do. Do you think Iโ€™d be that desperate for your body?โ€

Teresa rolled her eyes and asked, โ€œIf you want sex, just say it outright.โ€

โ€œWhoโ€™d want to sleep with you?โ€ Jonathan folded his arms across his chest, scoffing. โ€œDonโ€™t flatter yourself. Do you think I canโ€™t live without you?โ€

Teresa didnโ€™t know what he truly wanted. She said wearily, โ€œThereโ€™s nothing left to discuss. Fine, do as you wish. Youโ€™ve dealt with everyone else. Am I next?โ€

Jonathan sneered, โ€œIโ€™ve said it before: Remarry me, and Iโ€™ll let the past go. Otherwise, Iโ€™m considering suing Jennifer. She not only violated medical ethics but also broke the law. A court conviction is certain if I proceed.โ€

Teresa stared at him in disbelief and pressed, โ€œAre you serious?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not joking with you,โ€ Jonathan said, narrowing his eyes. โ€œThis is your last chance. Will you remarry me or not?โ€
