Chapter 644

โ€œDonโ€™t mention it. Just rest up, Grandpa,โ€ Jonathan said.

โ€œDonโ€™t leave yet.โ€ Hayden caught Jonathanโ€™s hand, looking at that calm face. He shook his head. โ€œLying here with my eyes closed, it gives a man a lot of time to think. I donโ€™t know if Iโ€™ll wake up the next time I close my eyes. I donโ€™t have many wishes left, except for youโ€ฆโ€

Hayden choked up but kept going. โ€œYou and Teresaโ€ฆ It breaks my heart that you two split. You never even gave me a great-grandchild.

โ€œBut forget that. Youโ€™re both still young. Thereโ€™s time for kids. But firstโ€ฆ I want to see you two get back together. Remarriage?โ€

The mention of remarriage hit Donald and Jennifer differently. Donald opened his mouth to offer a word of support, but Jennifer beat him to it. โ€œLynn, Teresa wonโ€™t be remarrying Jonathan.โ€

Hayden looked at Jennifer, confused. Jonathanโ€™s head whipped toward her.

โ€œTeresa told me herself just today,โ€ she explained, โ€œSheโ€™s moving to Gortharry for a new job opportunity.โ€

The light in Haydenโ€™s eyes flickered and died, leaving only disappointment. โ€œWhat? Teresaโ€™sโ€ฆ leaving Nareig?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s right, Mr. Lynn. Her choice,โ€ Jennifer said.

Jonathan didnโ€™t think that Teresa would leave Nareig. Without a word, he walked out. Jennifer knew Jonathan was going after Teresa. She quickly let go of Donaldโ€™s arm and followed.

Gary was right outside the door, but Jennifer blew past him without a glance. She rushed to catch up to Jonathan and said, โ€œHold up. Weโ€™ve got to talk. Just us.โ€ Jonathan gave a sharp nod, his face like a storm cloud.

Once they were alone in the empty hallway, Jennifer laid out her story. โ€œTeresaโ€™s really leaving for Gortharry. Her flight is tonight.

โ€œShe asked me to tell you that she wants you to leave her alone, for both your sakes. She doesnโ€™t want to get back with you. Sheโ€™s not going to make the same mistake twice.โ€

Jonathan said coldly, โ€œShe said that? Word for word?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Jennifer said without flinching. โ€œShe said you wonโ€™t stop pestering her. Thatโ€™s why she asked me to tell you.โ€

โ€œI wanna hear it straight from her mouth.โ€ Jonathan wasnโ€™t buying any of this. He spun around to go find Teresa.

โ€œDonโ€™t you see how pathetic youโ€™re being?โ€ Jenniferโ€™s voice was sharp, stopping him in his tracks.

She kept going, her words like sharp knives. โ€œIf your marriage hadnโ€™t been a problem, Teresa never wouldโ€™ve divorced you. Itโ€™s over. You canโ€™t glue a shattered vase back together.

โ€œWeโ€™re grown-ups here. Marriage isnโ€™t some fairy tale romance. Itโ€™s two families crashing into each other. Have you forgotten everything Teresa went through in your marriage?

โ€œYour mother treated her like dirt and never thought she was good enough. Your life together was a nightmare. Why would you want to drag her back into that mess?

โ€œYou know, youโ€™re selfish. Everything you didโ€ฆ The only person youโ€™ve moved is yourself. Teresa doesnโ€™t feel a thing.โ€

Jonathan said coldly, โ€œWhateverโ€™s between me and Teresaโ€”thatโ€™s for her to tell me. You know nothing about our marriage.โ€

Seeing he was still determined to find Teresa, Jennifer let out a cold, mocking laugh. โ€œIf Teresa wants you back, she wouldnโ€™t make you wait. My sister doesnโ€™t love you anymore. Thatโ€™s why all your big romantic moves fall flat.

โ€œYou thought your love show with the fireworks would melt her heart and win her back? All she wants is to get away from you for good. She doesnโ€™t want to see your face again.

โ€œAnd youโ€™re still going to chase her down, just to add to her problems? You call that love? Thatโ€™s an obsession.โ€

Jonathan stood there, silent. His hands were balled into fists, his knuckles white. After a long moment, he finally turned and walked away.
