Chapter 644
โDonโt mention it. Just rest up, Grandpa,โ Jonathan said.
โDonโt leave yet.โ Hayden caught Jonathanโs hand, looking at that calm face. He shook his head. โLying here with my eyes closed, it gives a man a lot of time to think. I donโt know if Iโll wake up the next time I close my eyes. I donโt have many wishes left, except for youโฆโ
Hayden choked up but kept going. โYou and Teresaโฆ It breaks my heart that you two split. You never even gave me a great-grandchild.
โBut forget that. Youโre both still young. Thereโs time for kids. But firstโฆ I want to see you two get back together. Remarriage?โ
The mention of remarriage hit Donald and Jennifer differently. Donald opened his mouth to offer a word of support, but Jennifer beat him to it. โLynn, Teresa wonโt be remarrying Jonathan.โ
Hayden looked at Jennifer, confused. Jonathanโs head whipped toward her.
โTeresa told me herself just today,โ she explained, โSheโs moving to Gortharry for a new job opportunity.โ
The light in Haydenโs eyes flickered and died, leaving only disappointment. โWhat? Teresaโsโฆ leaving Nareig?โ
โThatโs right, Mr. Lynn. Her choice,โ Jennifer said.
Jonathan didnโt think that Teresa would leave Nareig. Without a word, he walked out. Jennifer knew Jonathan was going after Teresa. She quickly let go of Donaldโs arm and followed.
Gary was right outside the door, but Jennifer blew past him without a glance. She rushed to catch up to Jonathan and said, โHold up. Weโve got to talk. Just us.โ Jonathan gave a sharp nod, his face like a storm cloud.
Once they were alone in the empty hallway, Jennifer laid out her story. โTeresaโs really leaving for Gortharry. Her flight is tonight.
โShe asked me to tell you that she wants you to leave her alone, for both your sakes. She doesnโt want to get back with you. Sheโs not going to make the same mistake twice.โ
Jonathan said coldly, โShe said that? Word for word?โ
โYes,โ Jennifer said without flinching. โShe said you wonโt stop pestering her. Thatโs why she asked me to tell you.โ
โI wanna hear it straight from her mouth.โ Jonathan wasnโt buying any of this. He spun around to go find Teresa.
โDonโt you see how pathetic youโre being?โ Jenniferโs voice was sharp, stopping him in his tracks.
She kept going, her words like sharp knives. โIf your marriage hadnโt been a problem, Teresa never wouldโve divorced you. Itโs over. You canโt glue a shattered vase back together.
โWeโre grown-ups here. Marriage isnโt some fairy tale romance. Itโs two families crashing into each other. Have you forgotten everything Teresa went through in your marriage?
โYour mother treated her like dirt and never thought she was good enough. Your life together was a nightmare. Why would you want to drag her back into that mess?
โYou know, youโre selfish. Everything you didโฆ The only person youโve moved is yourself. Teresa doesnโt feel a thing.โ
Jonathan said coldly, โWhateverโs between me and Teresaโthatโs for her to tell me. You know nothing about our marriage.โ
Seeing he was still determined to find Teresa, Jennifer let out a cold, mocking laugh. โIf Teresa wants you back, she wouldnโt make you wait. My sister doesnโt love you anymore. Thatโs why all your big romantic moves fall flat.
โYou thought your love show with the fireworks would melt her heart and win her back? All she wants is to get away from you for good. She doesnโt want to see your face again.
โAnd youโre still going to chase her down, just to add to her problems? You call that love? Thatโs an obsession.โ
Jonathan stood there, silent. His hands were balled into fists, his knuckles white. After a long moment, he finally turned and walked away.
