Chapter 640
Hayden answered, โJennifer told me everything when I went for my checkup.โ
Wernerโs face went dark, anger burning in his eyes.
โWell, there it is,โ Irene said with a nasty laugh. โI was wondering how you had a stroke out of the blue. Donald really chose a โgood wife.โ That woman just lives to stir up trouble for this family.โ
Werner jumped in, โDad, I swear I didnโt know Jennifer was such a blabbermouth.โ
Hayden leveled a shaky finger at Werner on the floor. โIf you had nothing to hide, you wouldnโt have to worry about people talking. Youโre fifty years old, but youโre still running around with whores, cheating on your wife.
โNow you got yourself divorced and thrown out on your ass, huh? You have no shame. Get the hell out of my sight. Youโre no longer a Lynn. I donโt have a son like you.โ
Wernerโs head dropped lower. โDad, hit me, yell at meโฆ I deserve it. But I canโt leave. I have to stay here and take care of you.โ
โI donโt want you anywhere near me,โ Hayden snapped, turning his head to look at Jonathan. โJonathan, find me two caregivers. I donโt want to see his face again. A son like that is no son of mine.โ
Jonathan had barely stepped out of the room when Gary walked in.
Hayden looked at Gary, a wave of sorrow washing over his face. He thought, โGary should have the Lynn name. Werner can rot without it.โ
โGrandpa, we kept it from you so you wouldnโt lose it like this. Itโs really not good for you to be under so much stress,โ Gary said.
โMy boyโฆ How could I not get worked up? Look at this whole mess.โ Hayden couldnโt stop sighing. It was like heโd aged a decade in one night, more white in his hair than ever.
Gary left the ward. Heโd caught sight of Jonathan earlier. Now, Jonathan was at the payment counter. Gary walked up to him and said, โHey, Jonathan.โ
โYou made it,โ Jonathan said.
Jonathanโs chill response caught Gary off guard. โDidnโt Teresa say anything to you?โ Gary asked carefully.
Jonathan raised an eyebrow. โAbout what?โ
Garyโs stomach dropped. He scrambled for words. โOh, nothing. I just saw the fireworks. They were beautiful. Hard to believe you two go back ten years.โ
โYeah, well, thereโs a lot youโd find hard to believe,โ Jonathan said.
Gary stared at him, the pieces clicking into place. He thought, โSo heโs still in the dark about Mike. Teresa must have been about to tell him, and then the call about Grandpa came in and ruined everything!โ
โOh, right, Jonathan,โ Gary called out. โWho told Grandpa all that stuff?โ
โDoes it even matter? He knows everything now,โ Jonathan said.
โBut it couldnโt have been Werner. And not Cathy or Donaldโฆโ Garyโs stomach hit the floor. โWait, was it Jennifer? Did Jennifer tell Grandpa?โ
Jonathanโs blank face told him everything. โI need to go,โ Gary said.
He took the stairs down three flights to Jenniferโs department.
โSir, this is the gynecology department. You canโt go in there,โ a nurse said, trying to block his path.
Gary blew right past her and slammed open the door to Jenniferโs office.
There she was, sitting at her desk in her white coat, looking completely unfazed. He stared at her, his voice shaking with disbelief. โJennifer, what have you done?โ
Jenniferโs pen stopped moving for a split second. She passed the medical chart to her patient. Once the woman left, Jennifer lifted her head. โDone about what?โ
โDid you tell Hayden that Iโm not Yorickโs son?โ Gary demanded, his voice tight with rage. โDid you tell him that Werner and Cathy are divorced?"
Jennifer didnโt even blink. โAnd if I did? Itโs all true, isnโt it?โ
