Chapter 635

Gary offered, โ€œOkay. Let me go with you. I can help smooth things over.โ€

Teresa declined, โ€œNo need. This is between Jonathan and me. Iโ€™d rather talk to him alone.โ€

โ€œAlright then,โ€ Gary nodded, respecting Teresaโ€™s choice. โ€œIf you need anything, just give me a call.โ€

Teresa replied, โ€œOkay, thanks.โ€

At Horizonlead Group, Jonathan wrapped up the last contract, checked his watch, and decided to leave work early to visit Teresa at Posary Estates.

With Jennifer present yesterday, Jonathan couldnโ€™t confront her directly and had to back down. This morning, he checked his phone, hoping Teresa would have called or messaged him about how she was doing.

But there was none. Heโ€™d have to go see her himself. He just couldnโ€™t stop worrying about her.

โ€œMr. Lynn.โ€ Suddenly, his assistant hurried in and announced, โ€œChristian is back!โ€

โ€œChristian?โ€

โ€œYes, Mr. Lynn. Itโ€™s Christian.โ€

Jonathan said, โ€œLet him in.โ€

Christian walked in and saw Jonathan standing before him, looking strikingly handsome and unmatched. His features hadnโ€™t changed at all. After all, heโ€™d only been gone for a little over half a year. Christian respectfully greeted Jonathan.

Jonathan hummed, motioning for him to take a seat and speak.

โ€œThank you, Mr. Lynnโ€ฆโ€ Christian said gratefully, explaining to Jonathan that heโ€™d been through a lot lately. He left the company because both his parents had fallen ill, and he wanted to go back to take care of them.

Christianโ€™s mother succumbed after multiple grueling rounds of chemotherapy. He had been feeling downcast, so Sherry took him out to help him get away for a while. Today, Christian had just returned to Nareigh.

Christian said to Jonathan, โ€œMr. Lynn, Iโ€™m here to resign today. Iโ€™ve been away from the company for so long that I know Iโ€™m not familiar with many of the business operations. Moreover, Mikeโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYou still remember Mike?โ€ Jonathan scoffed. โ€œYouโ€™ve abandoned your own son.โ€

Christian looked up in astonishment. Jonathanโ€™s eyes were devoid of warmth, holding nothing but a silent reproach. โ€œMr. Lynn, youโ€ฆโ€ Christian stammered, wondering if Jonathan knew that Michael was his son.

Jonathan fixed his piercing gaze on Christian. โ€œWhat?โ€

Christianโ€™s eyes darted away, sweat beading on his forehead. He nervously licked his parched lips and stammered, โ€œUh, itโ€™s nothing. Mr. Lynn, if I may be so bold, have you and Teresa reconciled yet?โ€

Jonathan propped a hand against his temple, fixing Christian with an icy stare. He arched a brow.

Christian wished he could bite off his tongue. Heโ€™d certainly asked the wrong question.

Jonathan said coldly, โ€œSo you came back this time just to resign and then take Mike away?โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆโ€ Christian was suddenly at a loss for words. He wasnโ€™t sure if he should tell Jonathan about Michaelโ€™s identity. โ€œWell, I need to discuss this with Mikeโ€™s mother first.โ€

Jonathan fell silent. Michaelโ€™s figure flashed through Jonathanโ€™s mind. He had taken a taxi all the way to Jonathanโ€™s company just to see him, worrying about him and feeling a pang of sorrow over his weight loss.

Every time Jonathan saw Michael, an indescribable warmth would fill his heart. โ€œHey, I never got around to asking you. Back when you left, you told me Mike wasnโ€™t your kid. What did you mean by that?โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Christian scratched his head awkwardly, stalling for time. โ€œDid I actually say that? Iโ€™ll need to go home and double-check with Mikeโ€™s mom.โ€

Jonathan demanded sharply, โ€œWhatโ€™s the matter with you, Christian? Donโ€™t you even know if Mike is your own son?โ€

โ€œWellโ€ฆ Iโ€ฆโ€ Christian was on the verge of tears. He lowered his head and mumbled under his breath, โ€œAm I supposed to know, or not?โ€

Jonathanโ€™s phone rang. It was Teresa calling. He arched a brow, gazing down at Christian with a commanding air. Since Christian had decided to resign, Jonathan would approve his resignation request tomorrow. He had more pressing matters.

โ€œMr. Lynnโ€ฆโ€ Christian hesitated, his gaze fixed on Jonathanโ€™s tall, imposing back as he watched him turn to leave.

Jonathan paused and glanced back. โ€œAnything else?โ€

Christian sighed. โ€œNโ€“nothing.โ€ He could only watch helplessly as Jonathanโ€™s figure eventually vanished from sight.

The Maybach S680 cruised along the intersection of Riverbuss Road and Lavender Avenue. The light turned red. Ahead, a young couple, looking barely out of high school, walked arm-in-arm across the street.

Jonathan quietly watched the loving young couple, his mind suddenly drifting to Teresa at eighteen. She was bright-eyed and radiant, with the pure beauty of her youth. The corners of his thin lips curved in a faint smile, a flicker of tenderness in his eyes.

Teresa hadnโ€™t left yet, though sheโ€™d already arranged to meet Jonathan at the community gate. Peering at her slightly rounded, five-month-pregnant belly, she first slipped into a pair of tight leggings, then put on a jacket.

For her lower half, she chose a high-waisted red pleated skirt, pulling it up to cover her waist. After checking herself in the mirror, she let out a small sigh of relief. Her pregnancy was completely disguised.

She decided to come clean about Michael first, and then break the news about her pregnancy. She was afraid that if she and Jonathan got into an argument, he might, in a fit of anger, tell her to get an abortion.

Taking a deep breath, Teresa stepped out of her apartment. Jonathanโ€™s Maybach pulled up outside her residential complex.

Spotting the familiar Maybach, Teresa took a deep breath, trying to steady herself, and slowly walked toward Jonathan. Every step felt endless. She hadnโ€™t slept well in days, and exhaustion weighed heavily on her.

No sooner had Teresa settled into the passenger seat than a vibrant bouquet of Diana roses was pressed into her arms.

Jonathan said, โ€œTenth anniversary.โ€

Teresa froze, puzzled as she met the teasing glint in Jonathanโ€™s eyes.

โ€œTodayโ€™s the sixth. A full ten years since we first met.โ€

Teresa blinked. โ€œHow could that be? I met you when I was 22, then we had that whirlwind marriage. Even counting up to today, itโ€™s barely been six years.โ€

Jonathan shot Teresa a teasing look. โ€œThink again. Are you sure we met when you were 22?โ€

Teresa thought for a moment. If she remembered right, it was at Bennyโ€™s party where they first met. If Benny hadnโ€™t set them up, she wouldnโ€™t have even known Jonathan, let alone married him.

Chapter 635

The first time they met, Jonathan asked for her number on WhatsApp and kept messaging her about building. Eventually, she ended up marrying him.

โ€œAre you getting senile or something?โ€ Teresa teased. โ€œOr maybe youโ€™re mixing me up with someone else. That ten-year thing applies to another woman, not me.โ€

โ€˜Maybe he meant Yvonne, the one who passed away. Heโ€™s known her for ten years, hasnโ€™t he?โ€™ Teresa thought.

Seeing a flicker of annoyance cross Teresaโ€™s face, Jonathan smirked instead. โ€œWhat if Iโ€™m right? Care to make a bet?โ€

Teresa challenged, โ€œWhat are we betting on?โ€

Jonathan teased, โ€œIf Iโ€™m not mistaken, youโ€™ll have to remarry me.โ€

Teresa fell silent.

Jonathan smirked, lips curling playfully. โ€œDare to take that bet?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re on!โ€ Teresa shot back. โ€œBut when you lose, you owe me one favor.โ€

Jonathan sat up straight, his deep and magnetic voice resonating. โ€œAs long as youโ€™re not asking me to shoot down the sun or pluck the moon from the sky, anything else you want, itโ€™s yours.โ€

โ€œDeal,โ€ Teresa said firmly.
