Chapter 632
โI know youโre angry, but do you think I wanted this?โ Gary said, his voice full of frustration. โThe last thing I wanted was to be Warnerโs son or Donaldโs brother. Itโs not like I had any say in it."
"Things have already come to this. If you donโt want anything to do with me and weโre no longer friends, I understand and respect that. I only came back this time to sort out Mikeโs situation, and after that, Iโll leave Nareigh.โ
Jennifer nodded, a cold smirk on her lips. โYouโre right. If it werenโt for discussing Mikeโs situation, I wouldnโt have agreed to see you. Frankly, I have no desire to see you at all.โ
โThatโs enough!โ Teresa snapped. โStop arguing in my house. Iโm sick of it. Are you two done yet? Both of you sit down.โ
Gary fell silent.
Jennifer pressed her lips together. โTeresa, youโve just been discharged. Please, try not to get upset.โ
Teresa snapped, โWho do you think Iโm angry at? I only called you here because of Mikeโs situation. I donโt want to hear any more of your nonsense.โ
Gary looked around and then asked, โWhereโs Mike?โ
Teresa rubbed her temples. โMikeโs still at Miriamโs. He hasnโt come back yet.โ
โThen Iโll call Jonathan and have him come over,โ Gary said firmly. โLetโs sort this out face to face.โ
Teresa had no objections. In fact, she preferred to get this over with quickly.
Jennifer strongly objected. Just then, her phone rang and she answered, โIโm at Teresaโs place now. Mm, Iโll be back soon.โ After hanging up, she told them, โDonald needs me for something urgent. I have to go back."
โDonโt you two dare do anything without my permission,โ Jennifer warned sharply. โWhatever youโre going to discuss, it can wait until I get back. We need to think this through carefully.โ With that, Jennifer left.
Gary stood up and gazed out the window at Jenniferโs retreating figure, a flicker of loss in his eyes. He knew that after all these years, their friendship would never be the same.
Gary said to Teresa, โJennifer told me she deeply regrets introducing you to me. Now, whenever she looks at me, all I see in her eyes is pure disgust.โ
โThatโs just how Jennifer is. Whenever things donโt go her way, she acts like the whole world owes her something. It isnโt your fault. Itโs just that you and Donald becoming brothers is hard for her to accept.โ
Gary sniffled, composing himself. โAlright, enough about me. Letโs talk about Mike. Once the truth about Mike comes out, Jonathan will definitely revisit the previous DNA test. Jennifer wonโt be able to escape responsibility.โ
Teresa said, โIโve given Jennifer time to prepare. Things are out of my hands now. All I want is for Mike to go to preschool without any worries. I just hope he can live in the sunshine, just like you.โ
Gary suddenly realized what Teresa meant. โHe will,โ he promised.
He confessed that he deliberately instructed Jennifer to conceal the report, while Teresa herself was completely unaware, leaving her in an impossible bind.
โYou really donโt have to do this. I donโt need your help,โ Teresa said firmly.
โI must,โ Gary insisted. โI told you, I donโt want to hurt you or Jennifer. Jonathan is usually soft-hearted, but this time I canโt be sure. He has his limits.โ
Teresa fell silent. Deep down, she knew Jonathan could never just stand by and do nothing.
Night after night, she was haunted by dreams of the way he looked at her with that heart-wrenching mix of disappointment and hatred in his eyes. Maybe those nightmares would come true after all.
