Chapter 631
Teresa said, โIโm getting discharged this afternoon. You really didnโt have to buy so much stuff. I wonโt even use most of it.โ
Jonathan said, โIโve had some supplements delivered to your apartment complex. The essentials youโll need right away will be sent to your hospital room. Iโll check with the doctor about your condition later.โ
Teresaโs heart skipped a beat. She quickly replied, โIโm fine.โ She was afraid the doctor might tell Jonathan about her pregnancy. But it occurred to her that she had listed her marital status as single. The doctor might not say anything to Jonathan.
Teresa turned over in bed and said, โCould you step out for now? I want to take a nap.โ
Jonathan sat on the edge of the bed, his gaze fixed on Teresaโs back. โIโm not going anywhere today. I wonโt rest easy until I know youโre fully recovered.โ
Teresa retorted, โIโm perfectly fine. Youโre just making a mountain out of a molehill.โ
Jonathan retorted, โYou call this making a fuss? I ran two red lights, rushing here. How heartless can you be?โ
Seeing this, Teresa slowly turned around with a teasing smile and asked, โSo whatโs the plan? Want me to use my license to take the points for you? Otherwise, youโll end up getting yours suspended.โ
Jonathan scoffed, โIโll use Garyโs license. He doesnโt even drive in Nareigh anyway.โ
โSanfordโs back in Nareigh already? That was quick.โ
Jonathan scoffed, โHeโs not coming to see you. Donโt get your hopes up.โ
Teresa rolled her eyes. โI was just asking. Heโs Donaldโs half-brother. How could I possibly get involved with him? Thatโs completely out of the question.โ
Once Jennifer realized Sanford was Donaldโs brother, she stopped suggesting Teresa consider him.
Jonathan took her hand and kissed the back of it gently. โThatโs good to hear. I just want you to only have eyes for me.โ
Teresa gazed at his handsome profile. A sharp knock at the door interrupted them. Teresa snapped back to reality and looked up, seeing Jennifer standing there with an icy expression.
Jonathan stood up and gave Jennifer a polite nod.
Jennifer said coldly to Jonathan, โAs her ex-husband, you really shouldnโt be visiting her. Teresaโs fine. Itโs just a minor stomach issue. Sheโll be discharged today.โ
Jonathan said, โIโve arranged a car. Iโll take her home this afternoon.โ
โAbsolutely not,โ Jennifer cut in sharply. Teresaโs baby bump was already noticeable. What was more, the snug hospital gown she was wearing made her pregnancy even more apparent.
Jennifer said, โIโll take Teresa home myself. No need for you to worry about her anymore. What do you say, Teresa?โ
Teresa understood exactly what Jennifer was implying. She knew that if Jonathan noticed she was pregnant, sheโd have no choice but to come clean about Michael.
Teresa said to Jonathan, โJennifer and I still have some things to discuss in private. Why donโt you head back first? I can manage to get home by myself this afternoon.โ
Jennifer said coldly, echoing Teresaโs words, โYeah. Donโt let the door hit you on your way out.โ
Jonathan had no choice but to leave first, not wanting to provoke Jennifer further.
Teresa was exasperated with Jenniferโs attitude towards Jonathan. โCould you please stop being an ass?โ
Jennifer shot back, โIt is my business.โ
Teresa looked Jennifer straight in the eye. โFine, then. Itโs my right to come clean about Michael. Jennifer, Iโve given you enough time. I canโt keep waiting for you. I tried to spare your feelings, so donโt blame me for what happens next.โ
โYou were the one who said you didnโt want to get back together. You insisted on keeping Mike a secret. I only fabricated those reports because of you, and now itโs all my fault?โ Jennifer suddenly shouted.
Teresa took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves before she spoke.
โAt first, I didnโt want to reveal the truth about Michael, but I had no idea you were secretly falsifying medical reports. When I finally found out, I told you I didnโt need you to go that far for me. And what did you say?โ
Jennifer retorted, โItโs for your own good. Even now, I donโt think Iโve ever failed you as your sister. Sure, I broke medical ethics, but Iโve never let you down.โ
Seeing Jenniferโs indignant expression, Teresa looked away. โWeโve fought about this too many times. Iโm truly exhausted. This time, Iโm really going to come clean about everything, even if it means we both lose everything.โ
Teresa then told Jennifer that Sanford was back in Nareigh. She thought he was back for Michael.
She said, โSanford didnโt have to get caught up in this mess, but he still came back. Heโs clearly concerned about our situation. We canโt afford to drag more innocent people into this.โ
โWhat are you talking about? Weโre all fine right now, but you just have to speak up, just have to break this peace.โ By then, everything would change.
But no matter what Jennifer said, Teresa was determined to come clean.
โFine. If you insist on having your own way, so be it.โ Jennifer threw up a hand in exasperation. โOnce Sanford gets back, weโll take our time at your place to work out how to break the news.โ With that, Jennifer turned and stormed out.
Teresa got out of bed. Looking through the window, she spotted a familiar Maybach and froze. Jonathan hadnโt left. She gazed quietly at the car, its tinted windows hiding whoever was inside.
Teresa called Jonathan. โYou should go back now. Iโm really fine.โ
โHave you eaten yet?โ Jonathan asked gently.
โYeah. Thanks for coming to see me,โ Teresa said, a little guilty.
Jonathan said gently, โIโll stay until Iโve taken care of your discharge paperwork.โ
Teresa said, โNo need. Jenniferโs already taken care of it. Iโll just go home with her later.โ
Jonathan fell silent for a few seconds. โWould it be alright if I come by tomorrow to check on you?โ
Teresa replied softly, โWeโll see.โ She didnโt want to have a conversation about Michael at home. Sheโd thought about telling Jonathan the truth about Michael, but never in front of Michael. They needed to talk it through.
Teresa was not sure if Jonathan would lose control. She just hoped their emotions wouldnโt affect Michael.
Only then did Jonathan hang up, finally relenting and choosing not to push any further.
After seeing Jonathanโs car drive away, Teresa left the hospital room. Accompanied by Jennifer, she returned home. After changing into fresh clothes, she draped an oversized shawl, perfectly concealing the curves of her waistline.
Before long, Gary arrived.
Teresa said to Jennifer, โHe texted me on his way here. I asked him to come.โ
Gary paused and then called out hesitantly, โJennifer. Itโs been a while.โ
Jennifer sneered. โI donโt want to see you anymore. Weโre not friends anymore.โ
โJennifer, youโve got me all wrong. I honestly had no idea I was Donaldโs brother at first.โ
โNow that you know, how am I supposed to face you? My husbandโs brother and Iโclassmates and confidants, sharing everything? What would people say about me? Donald would definitely get suspicious. Letโs just cut all ties from now on.โ
With that, Jennifer turned away, her gaze icy and unyielding.
