Chapter 610
Jonathan reached out and gently scratched Teresaโs nose. โSmart,โ he said.
Teresaโs face grew complicated. She asked, โDoes Donald know about this?โ
Jonathan said, โNo, he doesnโt. I only found out after running the DNA test for Sanford and Werner.โ
Teresa said, โSo right now, only you and Werner know. Cheryl doesnโt know either, right? And Grandpa? He still thinks Sanford is your dadโs sonโฆโ
Jonathan nodded. โSort of. Thereโs one more person who knowsโCathy.โ
Teresaโs heart sank. That had to be a huge shock for Cathy. Secrets never stay hidden. If Donald finds out the truth about Sanford, Jennifer will too. Teresa wondered if Jennifer would still want to be friends with Sanford after that.
She snapped back to reality and asked Jonathan, โSo you called me out this late just to tell me this?โ
Jonathan said, โI just got back from Shaville. I stopped by the office to take care of some things. Tomorrow morning, I have to fly back to Shaville. The situation isnโt settled yet.โ
Teresa quietly said, โOkay.โ She didnโt know what she was feeling. She frowned. Jonathan reached out and smoothed the crease in her brow, pulling her into his arms again with a deep sigh.
โYou know, the first person I wanted to tell when I found out Sanford isnโt my dadโs son was you,โ he said.
Teresa was silent for a moment, and then asked softly, her voice a bit hoarse, โWhy?โ
Jonathan said, โI want you to know everything about me. I get that my dadโs generation has grudges that hurt a lot of innocent people.
โOn the surface, Sanford is innocent. Heโs not my dadโs kid, but his mom gave him that name and caused him years of pain.โ
Teresa stayed quiet and just let Jonathan hold her. Her voice grew rough and heavy as she said, โYeah, youโre right. Adult grudges shouldnโt drag kids into it. Kids donโt deserve that.โ
Jonathan slowly let go of her and noticed the light in her eyes shift. He raised his eyebrows and studied her face carefully. โDo you want to tell me something?โ he asked.
โNothing important. Letโs wait until you finish handling your family stuff,โ she said.
โWhat is it? Tell me now.โ His gaze burned even hotter as he stared at her.
Teresa hesitated for a few seconds. It wasnโt anything urgent. She decided to wait until Jonathan finished dealing with his family stuff.
โOkay, then let me ask. Does it have something to do with me?โ Jonathan asked.
โKind of,โ Teresa replied.
Jonathan frowned. โAlright. Sounds like itโs not good. Maybe you shouldnโt say it now.โ
Teresa sighed quietly. Jonathan had an early flight the next day. He said he wasnโt going to sleep tonight and planned to nap at the airport for a few hours. Teresa said she would drive him, but Jonathan said it wasnโt necessary.
Teresa insisted on driving him anyway. After all, it was just a few hours before dawn. โWait for me. Iโm going to lock the door,โ she said.
She went upstairs and found Michael still asleep in his room. She covered him with a blanket and kissed his forehead. โHoney, give me a little more time, okay?โ
Teresa gently closed the door and took Jonathan to the airport. His flight was at 5:30 a.m., and he had a first-class ticket. They got to the airport aroundโฆ
Teresa asked if he wanted to wait inside the terminal, but Jonathan said, โLetโs wait in the car. I donโt like those waiting room chairs,โ and adjusted the seat. โYou can stay here with me and rest a bit.โ
Teresa said, โOkay, you get some sleep. Iโm not tired.โ
Jonathan said nothing. He held her hand and quickly fell asleep. Holding his hand made her a little uncomfortable, but she didnโt want to move and risk waking him.
He had been rushing between flights and looked worn out. She felt sorry for him but kept quiet. She just quietly cared for him. After Jonathan boarded, Teresa left. She was also tired.
When she got home, she collapsed onto her bed. If she hadnโt felt the baby kick, she probably wouldnโt have eaten at all. She ate a little to keep the baby fed and then fell asleep again.
At the hospital, Liora hadnโt slept for more than a day. She kept waiting for Sanford to come back. Time blurred. Dawn finally broke when Sanford showed up.
He sat on the edge of the bed and held Lioraโs cold hand. โMom, have you eaten? Your hands are so cold.โ
Liora gently touched his face. She could see he looked worn out after just one night. โI canโt eat when youโre not here. Youโve got the DNA test result? You know now, donโt you?โ
Sanford took a deep breath and nodded slowly. He had stayed by the river all night. During that time, he saved Cathy when she tried to jump. He had been soaked and changed into clean clothes early that morning.
It felt like a whole year had passed. Yesterday was the hardest day of his life. He went from being confused to deciding to face the truth like a man, but only after Liora told him the truth.
โWhy am I Wernerโs son? Why did you say the man you liked was Yorick? Why did you name me Sanford? When did Werner find out I was his son?โ Sanford needed answers.
Liora was quiet. Actually, Irene came to see her alone the night before. Irene wanted to know why Liora lied about Sanford being Yorickโs son. Liora had told her nanny to lock the door and refused to see Irene.
Today, Sanford was back. Liora knew her health was failing. Now that the truth was out, she no longer feared Irene.
She had made up her mind. โCall Irene and Jonathan. Bring them here. I want to tell the truth face to face. Everyone should know.โ
โWhat about Werner? Should we call that coward, too?โ Sanford asked.
Liora sighed weakly and looked at him with disgust. โNo need. It was just a one-time mistake with him.โ
โA mistake!โ Sanford smiled bitterly. โSo, whether my dad is Werner or Yorick, Iโm just the result of your mistake.โ
โSanford, no matter who your father is, I love you. I carried you for ten months and raised you all these years. Youโre everything to me,โ Liora said.
It was because of Sanford and wanting a better future for him that Liora chose to be honest. Sanford casually wiped away his tears and said, โI get it. I wonโt say anything else. Iโm calling Jonathan now.โ
