Chapter 610

Jonathan reached out and gently scratched Teresaโ€™s nose. โ€œSmart,โ€ he said.

Teresaโ€™s face grew complicated. She asked, โ€œDoes Donald know about this?โ€

Jonathan said, โ€œNo, he doesnโ€™t. I only found out after running the DNA test for Sanford and Werner.โ€

Teresa said, โ€œSo right now, only you and Werner know. Cheryl doesnโ€™t know either, right? And Grandpa? He still thinks Sanford is your dadโ€™s sonโ€ฆโ€

Jonathan nodded. โ€œSort of. Thereโ€™s one more person who knowsโ€”Cathy.โ€

Teresaโ€™s heart sank. That had to be a huge shock for Cathy. Secrets never stay hidden. If Donald finds out the truth about Sanford, Jennifer will too. Teresa wondered if Jennifer would still want to be friends with Sanford after that.

She snapped back to reality and asked Jonathan, โ€œSo you called me out this late just to tell me this?โ€

Jonathan said, โ€œI just got back from Shaville. I stopped by the office to take care of some things. Tomorrow morning, I have to fly back to Shaville. The situation isnโ€™t settled yet.โ€

Teresa quietly said, โ€œOkay.โ€ She didnโ€™t know what she was feeling. She frowned. Jonathan reached out and smoothed the crease in her brow, pulling her into his arms again with a deep sigh.

โ€œYou know, the first person I wanted to tell when I found out Sanford isnโ€™t my dadโ€™s son was you,โ€ he said.

Teresa was silent for a moment, and then asked softly, her voice a bit hoarse, โ€œWhy?โ€

Jonathan said, โ€œI want you to know everything about me. I get that my dadโ€™s generation has grudges that hurt a lot of innocent people.

โ€œOn the surface, Sanford is innocent. Heโ€™s not my dadโ€™s kid, but his mom gave him that name and caused him years of pain.โ€

Teresa stayed quiet and just let Jonathan hold her. Her voice grew rough and heavy as she said, โ€œYeah, youโ€™re right. Adult grudges shouldnโ€™t drag kids into it. Kids donโ€™t deserve that.โ€

Jonathan slowly let go of her and noticed the light in her eyes shift. He raised his eyebrows and studied her face carefully. โ€œDo you want to tell me something?โ€ he asked.

โ€œNothing important. Letโ€™s wait until you finish handling your family stuff,โ€ she said.

โ€œWhat is it? Tell me now.โ€ His gaze burned even hotter as he stared at her.

Teresa hesitated for a few seconds. It wasnโ€™t anything urgent. She decided to wait until Jonathan finished dealing with his family stuff.

โ€œOkay, then let me ask. Does it have something to do with me?โ€ Jonathan asked.

โ€œKind of,โ€ Teresa replied.

Jonathan frowned. โ€œAlright. Sounds like itโ€™s not good. Maybe you shouldnโ€™t say it now.โ€

Teresa sighed quietly. Jonathan had an early flight the next day. He said he wasnโ€™t going to sleep tonight and planned to nap at the airport for a few hours. Teresa said she would drive him, but Jonathan said it wasnโ€™t necessary.

Teresa insisted on driving him anyway. After all, it was just a few hours before dawn. โ€œWait for me. Iโ€™m going to lock the door,โ€ she said.

She went upstairs and found Michael still asleep in his room. She covered him with a blanket and kissed his forehead. โ€œHoney, give me a little more time, okay?โ€

Teresa gently closed the door and took Jonathan to the airport. His flight was at 5:30 a.m., and he had a first-class ticket. They got to the airport aroundโ€ฆ

Teresa asked if he wanted to wait inside the terminal, but Jonathan said, โ€œLetโ€™s wait in the car. I donโ€™t like those waiting room chairs,โ€ and adjusted the seat. โ€œYou can stay here with me and rest a bit.โ€

Teresa said, โ€œOkay, you get some sleep. Iโ€™m not tired.โ€

Jonathan said nothing. He held her hand and quickly fell asleep. Holding his hand made her a little uncomfortable, but she didnโ€™t want to move and risk waking him.

He had been rushing between flights and looked worn out. She felt sorry for him but kept quiet. She just quietly cared for him. After Jonathan boarded, Teresa left. She was also tired.

When she got home, she collapsed onto her bed. If she hadnโ€™t felt the baby kick, she probably wouldnโ€™t have eaten at all. She ate a little to keep the baby fed and then fell asleep again.

At the hospital, Liora hadnโ€™t slept for more than a day. She kept waiting for Sanford to come back. Time blurred. Dawn finally broke when Sanford showed up.

He sat on the edge of the bed and held Lioraโ€™s cold hand. โ€œMom, have you eaten? Your hands are so cold.โ€

Liora gently touched his face. She could see he looked worn out after just one night. โ€œI canโ€™t eat when youโ€™re not here. Youโ€™ve got the DNA test result? You know now, donโ€™t you?โ€

Sanford took a deep breath and nodded slowly. He had stayed by the river all night. During that time, he saved Cathy when she tried to jump. He had been soaked and changed into clean clothes early that morning.

It felt like a whole year had passed. Yesterday was the hardest day of his life. He went from being confused to deciding to face the truth like a man, but only after Liora told him the truth.

โ€œWhy am I Wernerโ€™s son? Why did you say the man you liked was Yorick? Why did you name me Sanford? When did Werner find out I was his son?โ€ Sanford needed answers.

Liora was quiet. Actually, Irene came to see her alone the night before. Irene wanted to know why Liora lied about Sanford being Yorickโ€™s son. Liora had told her nanny to lock the door and refused to see Irene.

Today, Sanford was back. Liora knew her health was failing. Now that the truth was out, she no longer feared Irene.

She had made up her mind. โ€œCall Irene and Jonathan. Bring them here. I want to tell the truth face to face. Everyone should know.โ€

โ€œWhat about Werner? Should we call that coward, too?โ€ Sanford asked.

Liora sighed weakly and looked at him with disgust. โ€œNo need. It was just a one-time mistake with him.โ€

โ€œA mistake!โ€ Sanford smiled bitterly. โ€œSo, whether my dad is Werner or Yorick, Iโ€™m just the result of your mistake.โ€

โ€œSanford, no matter who your father is, I love you. I carried you for ten months and raised you all these years. Youโ€™re everything to me,โ€ Liora said.

It was because of Sanford and wanting a better future for him that Liora chose to be honest. Sanford casually wiped away his tears and said, โ€œI get it. I wonโ€™t say anything else. Iโ€™m calling Jonathan now.โ€
