Chapter 604

Sanford snapped. "Donโ€™t change the subject. Whatโ€™s your relationship with my mom? Why did you transfer money to her? And why did she call you?โ€

Werner froze, suddenly recalling the phone call from Liora. She had warned him that Sanford was going to check the surveillance footage. It suddenly dawned on him. His gaze snapped toward Jonathan. "You two, youโ€™re trying to set me up on purpose?โ€ Werner snapped.

โ€œWerner,โ€ Jonathan said coolly, โ€œwhen you did all this, did you ever consider how Donald and Cheryl would feel?โ€

โ€œWhat did I even do?โ€ Werner shot back.

Jonathan said coolly, โ€œThe money from those accounts Cathy mentioned, you took it out and gave it to Liora, didnโ€™t you?โ€

Werner froze, and then the realization hit him. โ€œNow I get it. Cathy sent you to spy on me. Youโ€™re actually helping her investigate me? Jonathan, Iโ€™m deeply disappointed in you.โ€

Werner turned to leave, but Sanford yanked him back.

โ€œYou still havenโ€™t answered me. What exactly is going on between you and my mom? Why would you give her so much money, even if it means ruining yourself? Were you afraid weโ€™d see something on the surveillance footage?โ€ asked Sanford.

Werner gave Sanford a complicated look, then shook him off impatiently. He snapped, โ€œYouโ€™re better off not knowing. It wonโ€™t do you any good to know too much.โ€

Werner tried to leave again, but Sanford clamped down on his arm with an iron grip.

Sanford finally understood, and his heart sank like a stone. โ€œWhat else are you two hiding from us?โ€ he demanded.

Werner snapped, โ€œI told you, knowing too much wonโ€™t do you any good. Your mother doesnโ€™t have much time left. What you need to do now is take good care of her.โ€

โ€œPrecisely because my mom is dying, I need to know the whole truth now. I have every right to know everything about her. Iโ€™m her son. If she dies with all these grievances, how am I supposed to make it right for her?โ€

Werner abruptly fell silent. He said, his voice heavy with pain, โ€œSon, your mother hasnโ€™t been wronged at all!โ€

โ€œSo, what is it you canโ€™t say?โ€ he demanded. โ€œDonโ€™t think for a second I havenโ€™t figured it out. Thereโ€™s a secret between you two, a massive one.โ€

Werner averted his gaze, stubbornly repeating, โ€œI told you, I donโ€™t know anything!โ€

Sanford snapped, โ€œDo you take me for a fool? If you โ€˜donโ€™t know anything,โ€™ then why were you so eager to cut the power?"

โ€œYouโ€™re scared my mom and Irene said something that would incriminate you, arenโ€™t you? I bet their whole feud probably stems from you.โ€

Werner snapped, โ€œStop making wild accusations. This has nothing to do with me.โ€

Sanford sneered, his words cutting deep. โ€œSo, what are you so afraid of? You coward.โ€

Wernerโ€™s eyes bulged as he glared at Sanford. โ€œSay that again!โ€

Sanford snapped, โ€œAm I wrong? Isnโ€™t this exactly how a coward acts? Itโ€™s painfully obvious thereโ€™s something going on between you and my mom. I bet that money you gave her was hush money.โ€

Werner never expected Sanford to be so sharp; heโ€™d practically hit the nail on the head. He then glanced at Jonathan, who remained as calm and composed as ever. Werner was certain Jonathan must have thought the same thing. โ€œYou two brats are sticking your noses where they donโ€™t belong.โ€

Jonathan was about to speak, but Sanford cut him off. Sanford stepped in front of Jonathan, fixing Werner with a mocking glare. โ€œYeah, weโ€™re both Yorickโ€™s sons. But getting to the bottom of this dirty laundry has dragged in too many people. Now your own family, your wife and kids, are paying the price.โ€

Hearing Sanford repeatedly claim to be Yorickโ€™s son, Werner was very close to blurting out the whole truth right then and there.
