Chapter 599
Irene fixed her gaze on Liora, a mocking sneer in her eyes. โI bet you donโt have the guts to say it, unless you want us both to go down together.โ
Lioraโs lips curved faintly, her expression unreadable. She said, โAfter Iโm gone, Iโll arrange for Sanford to go abroad. He wonโt ever appear before you.โ
Irene slowly settled into the chair, eyeing Liora with suspicion. โWho knows if youโre telling the truth? And who knows if that troublemaker son of yours wonโt stir up more drama?โ
Liora sneered, โWhat are you so afraid of? Sanford is all I have left. Just promise me you wonโt trouble him, and keep your son away from him too. Iโll make sure he stays far away from all of you.โ
Irene could no longer contain her rage. She stormed over to Liora, jabbing a finger in her face. โDo you know how badly I want to kill you? How dare you give birth to Yorickโs child?โ
โI wish you and your son would vanish from the world. It should have been you who drank that poison back then. It should have been you!โ Irene snapped.
Lioraโs own temper flared just as suddenly. โIf Yorick hadnโt drunk that poison for me back then, youโd be rotting in jail right now. I kept my promise to keep your secret, but you owe me an apology.โ
โYou want me to apologize to you? In your dreams!โ Irene snarled, then slapped Liora viciously across the face before stepping back.
โIf you hadnโt been clinging to Yorick like some desperate stalker, I never would have been driven to want to kill you. But now, I donโt even have to lift a finger. You deserve to die!โ said Irene.
Liora was about to retort when a violent fit of coughing seized her. Blood gushed from her throat, staining her lips a deep red. Irene froze.
โMom!โ Sanford burst into the room and was met with a horrifying scene. He frantically pressed the nurse call button above the bed, then grabbed Irene by the collar, demanding, โWhat did you do to my mom?โ
โI didnโt do anything!โ Irene snapped.
Sanford shoved Irene aside and snapped, โThen what the hell are you doing here? Youโre happy now, arenโt you, seeing Mom like this?โ He impatiently shoved Irene away, causing her to stagger.
Not wanting to stoop to Sanfordโs level and risk losing face, Irene gave a disdainful snort and turned on her heel to leave.
โMom, are you alright?โ Sanford rushed to sit by Lioraโs bedside, gently patting her back to help her breathe easier.
Liora shook her head weakly, forcing a small smile. โIโm fine, Sanford. Donโt worry about me,โ she said gently.
Sanford demanded, โMom, what did Irene say to you?โ
Liora shook her head weakly and managed a faint smile. โNothing. She just came to gloat, thatโs all.โ
โThat venomous woman!โ Sanford muttered through gritted teeth, about to storm out after Irene when Liora caught his wrist.
โLet it be,โ she said wearily. โWeโve said all there is to say. From now on, weโll stay out of each otherโs way.โ
In Nareigh, Jonathan pored over Wernerโs hospital transfer records. All the payments went to the same institution, to the same account registered to Liora.
Jonathan frowned. The situation was getting more complicated. If he told Cathy that Werner had transferred all the money to Liora, he didnโt know if she would forgive him.
He dialed the secretariat. Someone asked, โMr. Lynn, you requested to see me?โ
Jonathan ordered, โBook me a flight to Shaville tonight.โ
โYes, Mr. Lynn.โ
The secretary had just left when Jonathanโs phone buzzed with a new message.
Sanford: Keep your mother in check. If she bothers my mom again, donโt blame me for what Iโll do to your family.
Jonathan stared at Sanfordโs message for two seconds, his expression darkening.
