Chapter 580
In the end, Werner still couldnโt reach Cathy. She stormed out, hailed a cab, and headed straight to her sisterโs place. Cathy had two older sisters. The eldest was Catherine, the second was Cecilia, and Cathy was the youngest of the three.
She went to her eldest sister Catherineโs house. As soon as Catherine heard about it, she snapped, โWerner has completely lost his mind. At his age, how could he do something so disgraceful? What a disgrace!โ
Cathy pressed a tissue to her eyes, holding back tears. โI want a divorce,โ she declared.
Catherine sighed. After calming down, she gently advised Cathy, โDonโt go through with the divorce. Cherylโs grown up now and is about to get married. And since Werner probably wonโt dare do it again, why not forgive him this once? Werner has treated you pretty well. Try to remember the good things about him.โ
โEvery time thereโs a family drama with that sister-in-law, he always tells me to just endure it,โ Cathy sobbed bitterly. โIโve put up with this for years, always telling myself to stick with him no matter what.
โBut this time, I just canโt turn a blind eye, Catherine. Iโm so wronged, and my heart aches. After all the love Iโve given him, how could he treat me like this?โ
Donald came home having caught a cold. Jennifer got him some medicine and poured him a glass of water. โTake this,โ she said. Donald slumped weakly onto the bed, completely drained.
Donald couldnโt shake off his worry about the family situation. He was about to call Cathy when Jennifer stopped him. Jennifer said to Donald, โCalling her now would just add fuel to the fire. Donโt do it. Just drop it.โ
Donald pursed his lips in frustration before reluctantly setting down his phone.
Jennifer sat beside Donald with an arrogant smirk. โSee? I told you ages ago there was something wrong with your dad, but your sister wouldnโt believe me. She even lashed out at me.โ
Donald let out a heavy sigh. โWe absolutely canโt let Cheryl find out about this. To her, Dad has always been a big man. If she knew, sheโd never be able to handle it.โ
Jennifer said, โYou canโt hide this forever. And since your mom is talking about divorcing your dad, Cheryl will definitely find out.โ
Donald fell silent, weighed down by everything on his mind. โMom must be devastated. She probably thinks I was in on Dadโs lies. But honestly, I just didnโt want her to fall apart when she found out.โ
At that moment, it was Jenniferโs turn to fall silent. Finally, she said, โLook, our home is what truly matters now. As long as weโre happy, let your parents sort out their own mess.โ
โI canโt just stand by. If Mom divorces Dad now, Cherylโs at that age where she should be thinking about marriage. What will happen to her?โ
โItโs not your fault. Your dad just couldnโt control himself,โ Jennifer said. She almost thought, โHe totally deserves this, and so does Cheryl. She never appreciated my good intentions.โ
Jennifer pursed her lips and swallowed the words. She said flatly to Donald, โGet some sleep. You still have work tomorrow.โ
Early in the morning, Donaldโs phone rang.
Werner called Donald anxiously and said, โCathy is staying at her eldest sister Catherineโs place. Come with me to persuade her to come home.โ No way was he divorcing Cathy.
After hanging up, Donald hurriedly got dressed, planning to take leave from the hospital and head to Catherineโs place to help Werner apologize to Cathy.
โStay out of it. Let your dad handle it,โ Jennifer snapped. โIf you go, your mom will just think youโre taking his side and chewing you out. Why ask for trouble?โ
โTheyโre my mom and dad, I still have to go.โ
โJust tell your dad you have to work. Youโre busy at the hospital and canโt make it,โ Jennifer repeated firmly. โLet him handle it himself. Donโt get involved.โ
But Donald insisted on going. This time, he didnโt listen to Jennifer.
