Chapter 578

Cathy remained silent. She walked over to Jennifer, her lips twisting in a wry, self-mocking smile. โ€œYou were right.โ€ After uttering this baffling remark, she walked straight out.

Werner urgently grabbed Cathyโ€™s arm. โ€œCathy, what are you doing? Whatโ€™s wrong? What happened?โ€

Cathy ripped her arm free from his grasp and snapped, โ€œYou dare ask me whatโ€™s wrong? You know damn well what you did! Iโ€™m bringing Cheryl back, and weโ€™re settling this once and for all.โ€

โ€œWhat the hell are you talking about?โ€ Werner snapped.

โ€œAm I talking nonsense?โ€ Cathyโ€™s voice trembled with rage. โ€œWerner, if you really wanted to hide it, you shouldโ€™ve deleted everything. Liam kept messaging you, and you even had Donald lie to me that Liam had thyroid cancer.

โ€œDo you really think Iโ€™m stupid? Or do you all think Iโ€™m just that gullible? Iโ€™ve been fooled by you for so many years. I thought I knew you well, I trusted you completely, and this is how you treat me? Letโ€™s get a divorce.โ€

Wernerโ€™s eyelid twitched as he hurried to defend himself. โ€œI swear that Iโ€™ve never done anything to betray you, never! It was just a tiny slip-up, nothing serious.โ€

He said defensively, โ€œCome on, I just made the kind of mistake every man makes.โ€

โ€œThen maybe I should just go out and find myself a man, too,โ€ Cathy snapped. โ€œYouโ€™ve lost all shame, donโ€™t care what the kids think, and youโ€™re still making excuses. How did I end up married to such a spineless coward?โ€

Cathy was shouting loudly. Werner grabbed her arm and hissed, โ€œKeep your voice down. Donald and Jennifer are right here. Let me save some face, will you?โ€

โ€œMom-โ€ Donald tried to explain.

โ€œStop calling me Mom,โ€ Cathy snapped. โ€œYouโ€™re no son of mine, not after you helped your father lie to me.โ€

โ€œThis isnโ€™t Donaldโ€™s fault. He never wanted any of this. You two can sort this out yourselves. Weโ€™re leaving now,โ€ Jennifer said firmly, taking Donaldโ€™s arm as she turned to go.

Donald released Jenniferโ€™s hand. He turned to Cathy, his voice trembling. โ€œMom, Iโ€™m truly sorry. I wasnโ€™t taking Dadโ€™s side. I was just terrified of how youโ€™d react when you found out. This is my fault. Itโ€™s not that I didnโ€™t consider your feelings.

โ€œThe whole way back from Shaville, I was falling apart, too. I couldnโ€™t believe Dad would do something like this at his age. I feel exactly the same as you do. Whatever you decide now, Iโ€™ll stand by you.โ€

Cathy remained silent. Right at that moment, she couldnโ€™t bear to face anyone.

With Donald and Jennifer gone, only Werner and Cathy remained in the house.

A chilling calm had settled over Cathy. With no tears left to shed, there was only one thing left to say. She finally said, โ€œDivorce.โ€

Since Werner was the one who had wronged her, the house would be hers. As the cheater, heโ€™d walk away with nothing.

Werner let out a helpless sigh. โ€œFine, Iโ€™m sorry. I said Iโ€™m sorry, alright? Weโ€™ve been together for over twenty years, and youโ€™re making a mountain out of a molehill over this. I was drunk that night. Liam practically dragged me into it.โ€

Cathy glared at Werner and snapped, โ€œYou blame everything on Liam. Did he undress you, too? After all these years of marriage, you always made me put up with Irene, never caring about my feelings.

โ€œI let that slide, fine. But this is a matter of principle. Do you still expect me to just swallow it? I canโ€™t, and I wonโ€™t! Iโ€™m not like you, completely devoid of principles.โ€

Cathy jabbed a finger at the door, her voice shaking with fury. โ€œGet out! Donโ€™t come back tonight. First thing tomorrow morning, weโ€™re going to the courthouse. Weโ€™re getting a divorce.โ€ This divorce was non-negotiable for her.
