Chapter 578
Cathy remained silent. She walked over to Jennifer, her lips twisting in a wry, self-mocking smile. โYou were right.โ After uttering this baffling remark, she walked straight out.
Werner urgently grabbed Cathyโs arm. โCathy, what are you doing? Whatโs wrong? What happened?โ
Cathy ripped her arm free from his grasp and snapped, โYou dare ask me whatโs wrong? You know damn well what you did! Iโm bringing Cheryl back, and weโre settling this once and for all.โ
โWhat the hell are you talking about?โ Werner snapped.
โAm I talking nonsense?โ Cathyโs voice trembled with rage. โWerner, if you really wanted to hide it, you shouldโve deleted everything. Liam kept messaging you, and you even had Donald lie to me that Liam had thyroid cancer.
โDo you really think Iโm stupid? Or do you all think Iโm just that gullible? Iโve been fooled by you for so many years. I thought I knew you well, I trusted you completely, and this is how you treat me? Letโs get a divorce.โ
Wernerโs eyelid twitched as he hurried to defend himself. โI swear that Iโve never done anything to betray you, never! It was just a tiny slip-up, nothing serious.โ
He said defensively, โCome on, I just made the kind of mistake every man makes.โ
โThen maybe I should just go out and find myself a man, too,โ Cathy snapped. โYouโve lost all shame, donโt care what the kids think, and youโre still making excuses. How did I end up married to such a spineless coward?โ
Cathy was shouting loudly. Werner grabbed her arm and hissed, โKeep your voice down. Donald and Jennifer are right here. Let me save some face, will you?โ
โMom-โ Donald tried to explain.
โStop calling me Mom,โ Cathy snapped. โYouโre no son of mine, not after you helped your father lie to me.โ
โThis isnโt Donaldโs fault. He never wanted any of this. You two can sort this out yourselves. Weโre leaving now,โ Jennifer said firmly, taking Donaldโs arm as she turned to go.
Donald released Jenniferโs hand. He turned to Cathy, his voice trembling. โMom, Iโm truly sorry. I wasnโt taking Dadโs side. I was just terrified of how youโd react when you found out. This is my fault. Itโs not that I didnโt consider your feelings.
โThe whole way back from Shaville, I was falling apart, too. I couldnโt believe Dad would do something like this at his age. I feel exactly the same as you do. Whatever you decide now, Iโll stand by you.โ
Cathy remained silent. Right at that moment, she couldnโt bear to face anyone.
With Donald and Jennifer gone, only Werner and Cathy remained in the house.
A chilling calm had settled over Cathy. With no tears left to shed, there was only one thing left to say. She finally said, โDivorce.โ
Since Werner was the one who had wronged her, the house would be hers. As the cheater, heโd walk away with nothing.
Werner let out a helpless sigh. โFine, Iโm sorry. I said Iโm sorry, alright? Weโve been together for over twenty years, and youโre making a mountain out of a molehill over this. I was drunk that night. Liam practically dragged me into it.โ
Cathy glared at Werner and snapped, โYou blame everything on Liam. Did he undress you, too? After all these years of marriage, you always made me put up with Irene, never caring about my feelings.
โI let that slide, fine. But this is a matter of principle. Do you still expect me to just swallow it? I canโt, and I wonโt! Iโm not like you, completely devoid of principles.โ
Cathy jabbed a finger at the door, her voice shaking with fury. โGet out! Donโt come back tonight. First thing tomorrow morning, weโre going to the courthouse. Weโre getting a divorce.โ This divorce was non-negotiable for her.
