Chapter 572

Before long, the delivery arrived at her doorstep. The courier called Teresa, but she didnโ€™t let him in. With a child at home, she couldnโ€™t be too careful. She took everything in before closing the door.

Michael was woken up by the commotion and came running over. He said, โ€œMommy, why are there so many yummy treats? And there are flowers. Thereโ€™s even a little box with them.โ€

Teresa was about to warn him not to open it, but Michael had already flipped the box open.

โ€œWhat a pretty necklace!โ€ Michael playfully put it on his head and asked, โ€œMommy, do I look pretty?โ€

Teresa suddenly recalled Jonathanโ€™s quip about hanging the necklace on a dogโ€™s neck. She couldnโ€™t help but laugh.

Michael looked at her with innocent curiosity. โ€œMommy, why are you laughing?โ€

โ€œBecause youโ€™re adorable,โ€ replied Teresa.

Michael pouted and said, โ€œFine. But who sent all these goodies and the flowers? They must be from Mr. Lime, right?โ€

Teresa was stunned. She wondered how Michael managed to guess it was Jonathan so quickly.

Seeing Teresa stay silent, Michael said smugly, โ€œI am right, arenโ€™t I?โ€

Michael said, โ€œMommy, why did Mr. Lime send us all these gifts? He gave the necklace to you, too, right?โ€

โ€œThe snacks are for you.โ€ Teresa quickly changed the subject. โ€œDo you remember you ran to his office last time? He said he really appreciated your concern for him.โ€

โ€œWow. Mr. Lime is always so nice to me.โ€ Michael spun around in circles. He was so happy, as if he could sprout wings and soar through the clouds.

Seeing Michael so happy, Teresa couldnโ€™t help but recall what Miriam had said. Teresa asked Michael, โ€œI have a question for you. How would you feel if Mr. Lime became your dad?โ€

Michael said, โ€œBut Mr. Lime told me he isnโ€™t my dad.โ€

Teresa clarified, โ€œI mean itโ€™s an assumption.โ€

Michael exclaimed, โ€œIโ€™d be so happy, a thousand times happier than eating candies.โ€

Still overjoyed, Michael spun around in circles once more.

Seeing Michael spinning around without getting dizzy, Teresa quickly reached out and grabbed his little arm. โ€œAlright, sweetheart. Thatโ€™s enough spinning. You donโ€™t want to fall and hurt yourself, do you?โ€

Michael tilted his head and asked Teresa, โ€œWill Mr. Lime really become my dad?โ€

Teresa said, โ€œIโ€™ll think of a way to make it happen.โ€

Michael said, โ€œMommy, youโ€™re not thinking of kidnapping Mr. Lime to make him my dad, are you? You said forcing people is wrong.โ€

Teresa said, โ€œIโ€™m not going to force him. Iโ€™ll figure out another way.โ€

Teresa dropped the subject and went to prepare some fruit for Michael.

Chapter 572

Cathy went to the dealership where Werner claimed to have ordered a car for Cheryl, only to discover he hadnโ€™t placed any order at all. The invoice was forged.

Cathy felt a growing unease. She wondered, โ€˜If the invoice was fake, could the medical report be fake too? Who did he really give that 100 million dollars to?โ€™

Once suspicion took root in the heart, it grew like a seed of doubt, sprouting and stretching into an unshakable tree.

For decades, Cathy had never once checked Wernerโ€™s phone. But that night, after he had fallen asleep, she furtively picked it up.

She found records of his transfers to a private hospital in Shaville and his chat history with Liam Jenkins, his friend in Shaville. However, the chat history was incomplete, with obvious gaps suggesting some messages had been deleted.

Before Werner woke up, Cathy carefully placed his phone back where it belonged and silently lay down.

The next day, Werner told Cathy he was flying to Shaville to celebrate Liamโ€™s birthday, and Cathy didnโ€™t press further.

Cathy kept her mouth shut, not letting on that she had caught his lie. She thought, โ€˜Liamโ€™s birthday is in December, and it is nowhere near autumn yet. Werner thinks I am none the wiser. Stupid.โ€™

Cathy was unfamiliar with booking flights. She urgently called Donald and instructed him to book her a flight ticket to Shaville after the flight Werner took.

Donald asked, โ€œMom, why are you going to Shaville?โ€
