Chapter 571
โWhat?โ Teresa asked.
Jonathan said, โI mean, you left the dishes in the sink. Why didnโt you even bother to wash them?โ
Teresa replied, โI forgot.โ
Jonathan said, โCome wash them now. I saved them just for you.โ
Teresa fell silent for a few seconds before replying flatly, โGot it.โ
Hearing Jonathan suddenly let out a chuckle, Teresa asked, โWhatโs so funny?โ
Jonathan said, โI was just kidding. Do you think I need you to come over just to wash those few dishes?โ
Teresa rolled her eyes. She thought, โIt turns out he was just making small talk.โ
Jonathan said, โDid you enjoy the meal I cooked? You cleaned your plate. Thatโs good. By the way, do the clothes I bought for you fit comfortably? Looks like youโve put on a bit of weight.โ
Teresaโs heart skipped a beat. She then became a little angry. She said, โYouโre the fat one. Your whole family is fat.โ
Jonathan frowned. โWhat? Are you mad? Does a little extra weight mess with your looks or that beautiful skin of yours? It all went to your breasts, not even an ounce to your arms. Isnโt that a good thing?โ
Teresa took a deep breath and snapped, โIโm done listening to you. Donโt ever call me again. We have nothing to talk about.โ
Jonathan relented and said, โAlright. Youโre not fat. Just forget what I said. It just slipped out.โ
Even after Jonathanโs concession, Teresaโs tone was still curt. โIโm hanging up.โ
โHold on a sec,โ Jonathan said. He leaned against the windowsill, looking genuinely perplexed. โEvery time we talk, you hang up after a few words. Why is it always so hard to have a comfortable conversation with you?โ
Teresa huffed, โWeโve got a generation gap. Letโs just drop it. I donโt want to hear an old man ramble on.โ
Jonathan said, โIโm only three years older than you.โ
Teresa shot back, โWell, Iโm still in my twenties, but youโre already in your thirties.โ
Jonathan laughed, a little angry. โWhen I say something you donโt like, you just have to snap back. Seriously, which one of us is the real Scorpio here?โ
โYou donโt have to bring up zodiac signs just to prove how young you are,โ Teresa retorted.
Jonathan replied, โWhy canโt I talk to you about them? Iโm only thirty, not eighty.โ
Teresa said, โYou will reach the grand old age of 31 in just two months. Since your birthday comes before mine, if we round it up, youโre practically four years older than me.โ
With that, Teresa hung up.
Though the baby was in a posterior position and her abdomen had plenty of space, Teresa hadnโt shown much at first. But as her belly gradually became noticeable, she knew many would surely wonder if she was pregnant or just putting on weight.
She didnโt care what others said about her. For instance, when Edward commented that she had put on a few pounds, she just brushed it off with a vague reply, not taking it to heart or getting upset.
However, Jonathanโs words hit differently. She had to snap back, or it would eat at her.
Her phone buzzed with a notification. Teresa read the message Jonathan had sent.
Jonathan: [Are you willing to remarry this โold manโ whoโs about to turn 31?]
Teresa didnโt reply.
Jonathan sent another message: [If youโre not ready, Iโll wait. But you should take the gifts I got for you. I bought you a box of cherries and some yellow pitayas. Iโll ask Keith to bring them and the necklace over to you.]
Teresa replied: [I donโt want any of them. If I eat a lot, youโll just call me fat again.]
Jonathan: [Alright. My bad. You havenโt gained an ounce. Happy now?]
Teresa: [Still not taking them.]
Jonathan: [Fine. You can just give them to a dog and hang the necklace around its neck.]
Teresa was speechless and didnโt reply.
