Chapter 571

โ€œWhat?โ€ Teresa asked.

Jonathan said, โ€œI mean, you left the dishes in the sink. Why didnโ€™t you even bother to wash them?โ€

Teresa replied, โ€œI forgot.โ€

Jonathan said, โ€œCome wash them now. I saved them just for you.โ€

Teresa fell silent for a few seconds before replying flatly, โ€œGot it.โ€

Hearing Jonathan suddenly let out a chuckle, Teresa asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s so funny?โ€

Jonathan said, โ€œI was just kidding. Do you think I need you to come over just to wash those few dishes?โ€

Teresa rolled her eyes. She thought, โ€˜It turns out he was just making small talk.โ€™

Jonathan said, โ€œDid you enjoy the meal I cooked? You cleaned your plate. Thatโ€™s good. By the way, do the clothes I bought for you fit comfortably? Looks like youโ€™ve put on a bit of weight.โ€

Teresaโ€™s heart skipped a beat. She then became a little angry. She said, โ€œYouโ€™re the fat one. Your whole family is fat.โ€

Jonathan frowned. โ€œWhat? Are you mad? Does a little extra weight mess with your looks or that beautiful skin of yours? It all went to your breasts, not even an ounce to your arms. Isnโ€™t that a good thing?โ€

Teresa took a deep breath and snapped, โ€œIโ€™m done listening to you. Donโ€™t ever call me again. We have nothing to talk about.โ€

Jonathan relented and said, โ€œAlright. Youโ€™re not fat. Just forget what I said. It just slipped out.โ€

Even after Jonathanโ€™s concession, Teresaโ€™s tone was still curt. โ€œIโ€™m hanging up.โ€

โ€œHold on a sec,โ€ Jonathan said. He leaned against the windowsill, looking genuinely perplexed. โ€œEvery time we talk, you hang up after a few words. Why is it always so hard to have a comfortable conversation with you?โ€

Teresa huffed, โ€œWeโ€™ve got a generation gap. Letโ€™s just drop it. I donโ€™t want to hear an old man ramble on.โ€

Jonathan said, โ€œIโ€™m only three years older than you.โ€

Teresa shot back, โ€œWell, Iโ€™m still in my twenties, but youโ€™re already in your thirties.โ€

Jonathan laughed, a little angry. โ€œWhen I say something you donโ€™t like, you just have to snap back. Seriously, which one of us is the real Scorpio here?โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t have to bring up zodiac signs just to prove how young you are,โ€ Teresa retorted.

Jonathan replied, โ€œWhy canโ€™t I talk to you about them? Iโ€™m only thirty, not eighty.โ€

Teresa said, โ€œYou will reach the grand old age of 31 in just two months. Since your birthday comes before mine, if we round it up, youโ€™re practically four years older than me.โ€

With that, Teresa hung up.

Though the baby was in a posterior position and her abdomen had plenty of space, Teresa hadnโ€™t shown much at first. But as her belly gradually became noticeable, she knew many would surely wonder if she was pregnant or just putting on weight.

She didnโ€™t care what others said about her. For instance, when Edward commented that she had put on a few pounds, she just brushed it off with a vague reply, not taking it to heart or getting upset.

However, Jonathanโ€™s words hit differently. She had to snap back, or it would eat at her.

Her phone buzzed with a notification. Teresa read the message Jonathan had sent.

Jonathan: [Are you willing to remarry this โ€˜old manโ€˜ whoโ€™s about to turn 31?]

Teresa didnโ€™t reply.

Jonathan sent another message: [If youโ€™re not ready, Iโ€™ll wait. But you should take the gifts I got for you. I bought you a box of cherries and some yellow pitayas. Iโ€™ll ask Keith to bring them and the necklace over to you.]

Teresa replied: [I donโ€™t want any of them. If I eat a lot, youโ€™ll just call me fat again.]

Jonathan: [Alright. My bad. You havenโ€™t gained an ounce. Happy now?]

Teresa: [Still not taking them.]

Jonathan: [Fine. You can just give them to a dog and hang the necklace around its neck.]

Teresa was speechless and didnโ€™t reply.
