Chapter 569
โDonโt drive a wedge between my parents. Iโm not listening to a word of your nonsense. My parents arenโt like that at all. You just want to see my family crumble. You just canโt stand to see other people happy,โ Cheryl snapped.
Jennifer retorted, โAs the head of the gynecology department, Iโm more professional than you. Instead of picking fights with me, youโd be better off investigating your fatherโs whereabouts.
โAnyway, Iโve said all I need to say. Believe it or not. I canโt be bothered to deal with the likes of you.โ
Cheryl snapped, โThe likes of me? Take a good look at yourself. At least Iโm not as heartless, selfish, and hypocritical as you are. I honestly have no idea what Donald ever saw in you. Why would he bring home such a disaster?โ
Jennifer scoffed and said, โLook whoโs talking. You had a kid out of wedlock and donโt even know who her father is. Do you think youโre so virtuous? You canโt even keep a man.โ
โYouโโ Cherylโs eyes welled up with tears at Jenniferโs words.
Jennifer said, โDo whatever you want from now on, but just donโt call me again.โ
โIf you dare meddle in my family affairs again, this isnโt over between us.โ Cheryl sniffled and hung up.
Jennifer thought, โFine. Iโm just talking to the air.โ
Jennifer had never liked Cheryl. She thought Cheryl was spoiled rotten by her family and acted entitled every single day.
Jennifer thought, โThank goodness sheโs not my sister, or sheโd drive me insane.โ
Jennifer glanced at the clock and found it was already past ten. Unable to hold back any longer, she went downstairs to Donald's office, whom she cared about most apart from Teresa.
A doctor said, โDr. Nelson, Donald was just here. He probably went to grab some coffee.โ
โAlright. Iโll go to him,โ Jennifer said and strode off.
Donald was making coffee when he suddenly heard footsteps behind him. Before he could react, Jennifer wrapped her arms around him from behind.
Jennifer buried her face against his back, clinging tightly as her arms locked around his waist.
She said, โI donโt want us to keep giving each other the silent treatment, Donald. Iโm sorry I didnโt consider your feelings, but I only spoke up because I truly love you. Please, donโt push me away over this matter.โ
Donald turned around to look at Jennifer and said, โCheryl called you, didnโt she?โ
Jennifer said, โYes. I thought you didnโt care that Cheryl hit me. Thank you for showing me that I still matter to you.โ
Donald set down his cup and finally drew Jennifer into a warm embrace.
After a few seconds, he gently let go of her and said, โJennifer, all I want is for us to have a quiet, happy life together. Iโm truly sorry I canโt provide more financially, but I promise to love you with everything I have.
โMy greatest wish is just for our family to live in peace and harmony.โ
โI love you, too,โ Jennifer said. โOnce I become department head, our life will get much better.โ
She didnโt ask for much, all she ever wanted was for those she loved and cared about to love her in return.
Chapter 569
Teresa woke up at 11 a.m. There was no one else in the room.
Still groggy, Teresa realized she was in Jonathanโs house. Her eyes landed on an open jewelry box on the bedside table, where there was a dazzling diamond necklace.
Teresa picked up the necklace and found a note tucked beneath the box. It read: [I donโt know if this can make up for all the hurt Iโve caused you. If itโs not enough, Iโll find another way. From Jonathan.]
Teresa, however, placed the expensive necklace back down.
She was ready to leave, but couldnโt find her clothes anywhere. She searched the bedroom for her clothes, but in vain. Finally, on the sofa by the bed, she spotted a brandโnew outfit with another note tucked underneath.
It read: Your clothes are in the wash. You can wear this. Donโt think about sneaking off as soon as you wake up. Have breakfast first. I made all your favorites.
