Chapter 549
Seeing that things had settled down on Jonathanโs end, Benny decided it was time to head back to Nareigh.
Jonathan said, โI should head back to Nareigh, too. Thanks for taking care of me last night, Benny.โ
Benny suddenly chuckled. He said, โYou were so drunk yesterday that I left early. The one who took you home and looked after you all night was someone else entirely.โ
Jonathan asked, โWho else could it be?โ
Benny said, โDid you black out, or do you not remember? It was Teresa who took you home.โ
Jonathanโs mind finally cleared as fragments from the previous night surfaced. He remembered leaning on Teresaโs shoulder in the taxi, calling her "honey."
He murmured, โI thought it was just a dream, but Teresa had been looking after me all night.โ
Jonathanโs eyes flickered with mixed emotions as he looked at Benny. He asked, โWhat was Teresa doing in Shaville?โ
Benny replied, โWhat else did you expect? She came all this way just to see you. You two were husband and wife. Is it really that surprising she cares about you?โ
Jonathan didnโt press further. His expression softened as he wiped his mouth. Then he said, โTake your time. This oneโs on me.โ With that, he stood up to leave.
Benny teased, โShouldnโt you check if sheโs still in Shaville or already back in Nareigh? Or do you want me to call and ask for you?โ
Jonathan said, โIโll contact her myself.โ With that, he left.
Benny chuckled, shaking his head, and leisurely enjoyed his meal by himself.
Teresa had already arrived at the airport. She was heading back to Nareigh today. There was still an hour to go before her flight.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Jonathan asking where she was. Teresa texted back briefly that she was at the airport and asked if he needed anything. But Jonathan didnโt reply.
Teresa wanted to ask Jonathan if he had sobered up yet. She typed a few words, then deleted them. Given how completely wasted heโd been last night, she figured he probably didnโt even remember it was she who took care of him.
She thought, โMaybe thatโs for the best. I am never looking for any credit anyway.โ
An hour later, as Teresa prepared for the security check, she inspected her bag and walked forward. Suddenly, her wrist was seized from behind.
Teresa whirled around, her initial wariness melting into relief as she met Jonathanโs burning gaze.
โThank goodness I didnโt miss you,โ Jonathan said.
Jonathan arranged with the staff to upgrade Teresa to first class, ensuring her seat was close to his. He took her bag effortlessly and said, โLetโs go. Iโm heading back to Nareigh today, too.โ
Teresa asked, โAre you serious?โ
Jonathan took her hand and said, โThink of it as me keeping you company. Wouldnโt want you to get lonely on such a long trip. After all, you did spend the whole night with me.โ
Teresa averted her eyes. She thought, โThis is absurd. Iโve seen his face countless times, yet my heart still races, and I feel this strange tension.โ
โJust a small favor,โ she replied casually.
โFlying hundreds of miles is just a small favor? Smooth liar,โ Jonathan teased.
Teresa shot Jonathan an exasperated look and thought, โHe really knows how to play innocent after getting his way.โ She retorted, โIโm just here on business," snatching her bag back and striding ahead.
Jonathan tightened his grip on Teresaโs hand, holding it firmly in his palm despite her struggles.
Wernerโs voice suddenly rang out from behind, calling, โJonathan.โ
Teresa turned, saw Werner, and immediately yanked her hand free from Jonathanโs grasp.
Seeing Teresa about to head off in the opposite direction, Jonathan firmly grasped her arm. He said, โWhere are you going? The VIP lounge is this way."
Werner interjected, โAre you two back together now?โ
