Liora said to Jonathan, “Hit me, scold me, do whatever you and your mother want, I can take it. But Sanford is your half-brother, after all. He knew nothing about any of this before. Please, just let him go.”
Irene bellowed, “Shut up. How dare you claim your son is my son’s brother? He’s not my biological child. I refuse to acknowledge him.”
Liora choked out, tears streaming down her face, “I’m sorry, Irene. I’m so, so sorry.”
Irene screamed, “What good is ‘sorry’? Liora, you deserve to burn in hell.”
No woman could ever accept another woman bearing her husband’s child. And now that child was already a thirty-year-old man.
Irene was shaking with rage, her fingers trembling uncontrollably. The next instant, overwhelmed by emotion, she collapsed.
Jonathan caught Irene just in time. He immediately arranged for a hospital room, had her admitted, and called Donald.
Donald was arranging hotel accommodations when the call came. He immediately rushed over to tend to Irene.
Jonathan’s immediate priority was to conduct a DNA test.
Yorick passed away many years ago. If he were still alive, comparing Sanford’s hair sample with his would prove whether Sanford was truly his son.
Now, the only way to establish Sanford’s biological connection to the Lynn family was through a hair sample from Hayden.
Sanford yanked out a strand of his hair and handed it to Jonathan. He said, “No need for that. I’ve already had one done.”
Jonathan’s eyes narrowed slightly. He asked, “What did you just say?”
Sanford corrected himself. He said, “I mean, I’m certain about who my real father is.”
Jonathan said no more. He supervised the entire DNA testing process.
After two hours of expedited testing, the results finally arrived. The Y chromosome analysis showed identical DNA sequences.
This only proved that Sanford was descended from a male member of the Lynn family, confirming he carried the Lynn bloodline, but it couldn’t definitively establish who his father was.
Jonathan remained expressionless as he turned to the testing doctor and asked, “What if we run the test using hair samples from brothers? Would that confirm they’re full siblings?”
The doctor explained, “For full biological brothers, those who share both parents, we can determine their relationship with high accuracy.
“But in cases of cousins or half-brothers, the results become much less conclusive.”
Jonathan frowned slightly. He pondered, ‘The DNA test confirms that Sanford indeed has the Lynn family bloodline. But does that make him my half-brother?’ He couldn’t shake the feeling that something just didn’t add up.
Just then, Jonathan’s phone rang.
Back in Nareigh, Hayden had been anxiously following every development of the situation.
Jonathan said, “Liora was the homewrecker who came between my parents' marriage. She has no moral high ground.”
Hayden demanded, “That’s not what I want to know. Is Sanford your father’s child or not?”
Jonathan fell silent for a few seconds, his gaze fixed on the test report in his hands. “We can’t be certain yet,” he said.
“Didn’t I give you my hair sample? Why haven’t you run the test yet?” Hayden demanded impatiently.
“The results aren’t in yet,” Jonathan replied calmly, then hung up.
Irene came to and immediately searched for Jonathan. As soon as he approached, she anxiously asked, “Jonathan, what are the results?”
Jonathan handed the DNA test results to Irene.
Irene refused to believe it, or rather, she simply couldn’t bring herself to accept the truth. She gasped, “No. That’s impossible. There’s no way Sanford is Yorick’s child.”
Jonathan fixed her with a searching look and asked, “Is there something you’re still keeping from me?”
Irene lowered her head and said, “There’s nothing else. It’s that simple. I was the rightful wife, and Liora was the homewrecker who came between Yorick and me.”
