Chapter 519

โ€œI donโ€™t think this is trivial for you,โ€ Jonathan offered her a gentle smile. โ€œItโ€™s wonderful youโ€™ve finally found closure. Your mother truly does care about you.โ€

โ€œWell,โ€ Teresa adjusted her shawl. โ€œI really should thank you.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve thanked me a thousand times already. Mere words arenโ€™t going to cut it,โ€ Jonathan teased.

Teresa suddenly remembered Jonathanโ€™s earlier remark. She shot him a glare. โ€œYou look every inch the gentleman. Yet your mindโ€™s always in the gutter.โ€

With that, she strode forward, leaving him several steps behind. Jonathan sauntered after her, grinning as he teased. โ€œIโ€™m a man. There are only two kinds of workouts for usโ€”in the gym and in the bedroom.โ€

Teresa turned to face him. โ€œRight now, I need to take care of my mom. I donโ€™t have time for your kind of workout.โ€

Jonathan nodded with a smirk. โ€œIโ€™ll take a rain check on that. Butโ€ฆโ€ Jonathan had already kissed Teresaโ€™s lips, just to tide him over.

Evelyn still needed to get another MRI. If the results came back clear, sheโ€™d finally be able to go home. Teresa brought both Michael and Isabel along.

Isabel snuggled up beside Evelyn, completely oblivious to the fact that her parents had just been through a bitter legal battle, and that her father was now behind bars.

Evelyn decided to wait until Isabel was older before telling her that Charlie was in prison. Itโ€™s no use telling her now. Sheโ€™s still too little to even understand what โ€œprisonโ€ means.

โ€œMike,โ€ Evelyn then said to Michael with a gentle smile, โ€œGrandma got you a notebook. Here, itโ€™s for you.โ€

It was a cartoonโ€“patterned childrenโ€™s notebook. Teresa couldnโ€™t help but remember how, back in Fernlandia, Isabel had a notebook, the one with Jonathanโ€™s signature on it.

Michael burst into tears, but Evelyn, clearly taking Isabelโ€™s side, casually dismissed it with โ€œItโ€™s just a notebook.โ€ Furious, Teresa took Michael and left.

Teresa was surprised to see the notebook. She turned to Evelyn and asked, โ€œWhen did you buy this?โ€

Evelyn smiled at Teresa, then at Michael. โ€œI bought this a long time ago, just for my dear Mike.โ€

Michael looked up at Teresa, his face beaming. โ€œMommy, this is a limited edition.โ€

Teresa gave a small nod and ruffled Michaelโ€™s hair. โ€œThen say thank you to grandma.โ€

Michael beamed, โ€œThank you, Grandma!โ€

โ€œIโ€™m glad you like it, Mike,โ€ Evelyn said warmly. โ€œIโ€™ll get you more nice notebooks whenever I find them.โ€

Michael threw his little arms up and shouted, โ€œYeah!โ€

Seeing the childโ€™s joyful smile, Teresa found herself smiling softly as well. โ€˜Family bonds were always complicated and hard to understand,โ€™ she thought. At that moment, she admitted to herself that she had never truly hated Evelyn.

โ€˜Maybe Iโ€™m just too tenderโ€“hearted,โ€™ Teresa thought to herself. โ€˜After all, sheโ€™s still my mother.'

After Michael and Isabel had been playing in the ward for a while, Evelyn leaned in and whispered to Teresa. โ€œWhen are you going to tell Jonathan the truth about Michael?โ€

โ€œIโ€“I donโ€™t know,โ€ Teresa murmured.

Evelyn let out a sigh, โ€œWe were so worried something might go wrong at Hannahโ€™s wedding. Despite all our careful planning, it was still Gordon who ended up causing trouble. Now that Hannahโ€™s married, I think itโ€™s time you told Jonathan the truth.โ€

Just then, a nurse knocked on the door to inform Evelyn that it was time for her MRI scan. Teresa sidestepped the question, accompanying Evelyn for her MRI scan and leaving Michael and Isabel in the ward.

Michael gave a little hop and said, โ€œMommy, I wanna come with you.โ€

Teresa turned to him and said, โ€œSweetie, could you stay and play with Isabel for a little while? Mommy and grandma will be back very soon, okay?โ€

โ€œOkay then.โ€ Michael finally agreed.

Just as Teresa and Evelyn headed downstairs, a lone figure took the elevator up to Evelynโ€™s hospital room. The two children, Michael and Isabel, were playing in the hospital room. Footsteps drew nearer.
