Chapter 513
โMom.โ Michael leaned toward Teresa, sniffed, and said, โYou kind of smell like Mr. Lime.โ
โHow? We didnโt even sleep in the same bed,โ Teresa blurted out. However, as soon as she finished speaking, she felt a bit awkward.
Michael didnโt catch anything weird. He tilted his head and said, โGuess my nose is broken. Should I go see a doctor?โ
Teresa chuckled. โNo. Youโre fine. Just sit back and donโt wiggle around.โ
Michael sat in the back seat, still chattering away with his usual curiosity. โMom, where have you been these past couple of days? Did you go to another wedding party?โ
โNo. I was staying at a hotel,โ Teresa replied.
โWhat kind of room were you staying in? A presidential suite?โ Michael asked.
Teresa didnโt expect him to be so smart. She cleared her throat, skillfully changing the subject. โSo, what have you been up to at Miriamโs place these past couple of days?โ
Michael said, โWe watched Tom and Jerry and Shaun the Sheep.โ
Teresa listened as Michael excitedly recounted the fun parts of his cartoons, chiming in occasionally. She had no idea that Jonathan had also just returned to Nareigh, taking a train, and had just arrived at the train station.
After Teresa checked out, the hotel staff tidied up the room and saw a ladyโs watch on the bedside table. The manager contacted Jonathan about the watch. He went to retrieve it, planning to return it to Teresa once he was back in Nareigh.
A black Maybach was parked at the entrance of the train station. After Jonathan got in, the driver Keith asked respectfully, โMr. Lynn, do you want to go to Forlisle Rose Estates?โ
โNo. Go to Rosary Estates,โ Jonathan said.
Keith nodded. โSure, Mr. Lynn.โ
They drove off toward Lavender Avenue, and at the same time, Teresaโs car was on the very same road.
The downtown streets were alive with traffic at night. Jonathanโs car was just two vehicles behind Teresaโs, and neither of them was aware of how close they truly were until the car between them turned right at the intersection.
Keith instantly recognized Teresaโs Porsche and the license plate. He turned to Jonathan and said, โMr. Lynn, thatโs Ms. Johnstonโs car ahead.โ
Jonathan sat upright, squinting slightly as he peered ahead. Sure enough, it was Teresaโs car. Just as he was about to call her, Keith slammed on the brakes abruptly.
Jonathan frowned slightly, a hint of annoyance flickering across his face.
Keith quickly apologized, โSorry, Mr. Lynn. A car suddenly pulled onto the sidewalk.โ
Jonathan looked over. Teresaโs car was already ahead. The car in the middle had its hazards on, and the driver got out. It was Sanford.
Sanford strolled over to Jonathanโs car. As the window rolled down, he smirked and said, โOh, sorry about this, Mr. Lynn. My tire just blew out. Cheap cars always give me trouble. How about you spot me some cash so I can get it fixed?โ
Keith couldnโt stand it any longer and said, โWho the hell are you? Why should Mr. Lynn give you any money?"
Sanford shot Jonathan a sly grin. โMr. Lynn and I are-โ
โWhat?โ Keithโs patience was wearing thin.
Sanford didnโt finish his words. He smiled and said, โFine, Iโll call Jennifer. Oh wait, sheโs married now. I shouldnโt bother her. Well, guess I have to call Teresa then.โ
Jonathan finally said in an indifferent tone, โGive him some money and tell him to fuck off.โ
Keith nodded. โGot it, Mr. Lynn.โ He tossed some cash from his wallet to Sanford.
Sanford said, โThank you so much, Mr. Lynn. When Teresa and I get married, Iโll definitely invite you to the wedding.โ
Jonathanโs face darkened instantly.
Sanford watched Jonathanโs car disappear down the road, then got back into his own vehicle and drove off.
Teresa arrived home with Michael, who immediately dashed straight to his bed to roll around. Teresa took a moment to tidy up her things. Once she was done, she noticed a message from Sanford.
Sanford: [You better be more careful. Your ex-husbandโs car was right behind yours. If I hadnโt stopped him, your son would have been discovered.]
Teresaโs heart skipped a beat. She immediately asked Sanford how he knew about Michael and what exactly he wanted from her.
Sanford: [I saw you pick up that child earlier. Donโt deny it. I saw him holding your hand. I asked Jennifer and she said itโs not your child. Donโt try to fool me. Iโve got just one question. Is Jonathan his dad?]
Teresa: [Does it matter?]
Sanford: [Yeah, it does. I donโt want to raise a kid for someone I hate.]
Teresa thought Sanford was losing his mind. She would never marry him, and she definitely wouldnโt let a man like Sanford be Michaelโs father. Therefore, no matter who the dad was, it wasnโt Sanfordโs business.
