Chapter 462

Considering recent events and Donald's kindness, Jennifer fell silent before replying, "Let me think about it. Please cancel my appointment for now."

The person said, "Alright. If you need anything, just contact us. We're a private hospital, and your privacy is fully protected."

"I understand," Jennifer replied, then hung up.

When Teresa went to pick up Michael, she seemed unhappy. Miriam noticed and asked what was wrong, but Teresa wasn't inclined to complain about Jennifer. Teresa mentioned the bridesmaid request. She pointed out that since she and Miriam were the same age, Miriam's zodiac sign matched Jennifer's.

Miriam refused without hesitation. "No way, I'm not being Jennifer's bridesmaid."

Teresa said, "Cathy said she'd give you three thousand dollars."

Miriam remained firm. "I wouldn't do it for thirty thousand. I barely know Jennifer. Why should I be her bridesmaid?"

Teresa replied, "Alright, I'll let Cathy know so she can find someone else sooner."

Just then, Miriam's phone rang. It was Edward, saying he would be Donald's groomsmanโ€”news Miriam hadn't heard.

Edward explained, "Donald originally asked four friends to be his groomsmen, but one couldn't make it, so he asked me to step in."

"I just got asked by Teresa to be a bridesmaid," Miriam told him.

Edward said, "Go for it! Maybe some of that wedding luck will rub off on us. We'll be the next ones to get married."

Miriam hesitated, considered it, then awkwardly told Teresa she'd do it.

Teresa smiled. "It's totally up to you. I'm just the messenger here."

Miriam sighed and squeezed Teresa's hand. "If it were your wedding, I'd be happy to be your bridesmaid again, no questions asked."

Teresa fell silent, memories flashing through her mind. She simply said, "You and Edward should be happy. Tell him to hurry up and propose." Teresa hugged Miriam, then took Michael home.

It was late, and the streets were almost deserted. While waiting at a red light, Teresa spotted a man with his arm around a woman entering a bar. That glimpse stopped her cold. The man looked just like Charlie, Evelyn's ex-husband.

Teresa took Michael home first and tucked him into bed. But the more she thought about it, the more convinced she became. That man she'd seen on the street did look like Evelyn's ex.

She regretted not taking a photo. She could have sent it to Evelyn for confirmation.

Teresa glanced at the clock. It was 1:30 a.m. She started the car and drove back to the bar, heading inside.

The streets were quiet in the early hours, but inside the bar, flashing lights and pounding music filled the air. Men kept approaching her, but Teresa turned them all down.

Teresa looked around but didn't see the person she was looking for. Just as she was about to leave, she heard a creaking sound coming from the restroom.

A few minutes later, a man emerged, zipping up his pants, his arm around a woman with heavy makeup. The two were laughing and about to leave.

Teresa grabbed the man's wrist. She stared at the pockmarks on his face and asked, "You're Charlie, right? Evelyn's ex-husband?"

Charlie was drunk, but hearing Evelyn's name made him sober up. He asked, "Who are you?"

Teresa spoke slowly and clearly, "I'm Evelyn's daughter, Teresa. You scammed my mom out of all her money. How dare you come back?"

Charlie snapped out of it. He shoved the woman aside, yanked his arm free from Teresa, and fled.
