Chapter 455
She said, โDonald, your wife yelled at me. She said I made her mess up at work and even cursed me. What did I do to her? Why would she say that to me? Thatโs unforgivable.โ Cheryl almost cried her heart out. After all, she had never been treated so unfairly in her whole life.
Donald quickly tried to comfort her. โCalm down. Jennifer isnโt that kind of person. Iโm not home right now, but Iโll talk to her when I get back.โ However, no matter what he said, Cheryl wouldnโt listen.
โAlright, Cheryl, donโt speak ill of your sister-in-law behind her back. Let me find out whatโs going on, and Iโll call you back,โ Donald said and hung up. He just couldnโt understand why Jennifer would say those things to Cheryl. After all, the Jennifer he knew was always calm and collected. He felt that something must have happened.
With that thought in mind, Donald immediately called Jennifer, but the call didn't go through. A bad feeling hit him, and he rushed back to Nareigh.
When Donald got to the hospital, he saw a few young nurses from the gynecology department whispering in the hallway. Donald hurried over and asked, โWhere is Jennifer?โ
โOh, Dr. Lynn, youโre back. Dr. Nelson should be in her office. I think sheโs probably feeling down right now,โ one of the nurses said.
โDid something happen?โ Donald asked, breathless and sweating.
The nurse said, โDr. Nelson performed surgery today, but due to improper handling, the pregnant woman lost too much blood. The baby was saved, but the mother is now in a coma, and her condition is still uncertain. Her husband made a huge scene and blamed Dr. Nelson for everything. He even spat right in her face.โ
โWhat? How could this happen?โ Donald didnโt ask any more questions and rushed straight to Jenniferโs office.
He pushed open the door and looked around, only to find Jennifer sitting on the floor, curled up in the corner with her arms wrapped around her knees. The room was a mess, with broken flowerpot pieces everywhere.
โJennifer.โ Donald walked over and crouched in front of her, calling her name several times, but she didnโt respond.
After a long time, Jennifer finally stared up at Donald with a desperate look. She seemed completely out of it, and when she spoke, her voice was cold as ice.
โItโs all Cherylโs fault. Because of her, I made a mistake during surgery and almost caused a disaster. Now the patient has lost too much blood and still hasnโt woken up. What am I supposed to do?โ she said.
Donald gently helped Jennifer up from the floor and comforted her softly. โYou still have me. Youโre my wife now. Trust me, Iโll handle this for you.โ
Jennifer looked at Donald through her tears, not quite sure if she could believe him. Donald felt sorry for her. โJust leave it to me, okay? Weโre married now, and whatever happens, weโll face it together.โ
Jennifer let Donald hold her, feeling a faint bit of warmth from his embrace. Donald asked her gently why she made the mistake at work and what it had to do with Cheryl.
Jennifer said, โI tried to call her earlier but couldnโt get through. She lives alone outside of town, and I was worried something might have happened. Thatโs why I got distracted for a few minutes!โ
โI see.โ Donald was a little moved. โThank you for caring so much about Cheryl. She shouldnโt have said those harsh words to you. Donโt worry, Iโll talk to her.โ
Jennifer didnโt care what Cheryl said about her. She shook her head in pain and said, โWhat about my job? If I get suspended, I wouldnโt be in the mood to get married. And how am I supposed to tell Ms. Nelson, my coworkers, and even my classmates? And Teresaโsheโll probably make fun of me too. Everyone will be laughing at me.โ
