Chapter 414

Teresa licked her lips and avoided Michaelโ€™s gaze. โ€œIf I ask your real dad to come, we might not be able to go to the theme park together.โ€

Michael puffed out his cheeks. โ€œI still want to go! But I want to see Dad, too, even if itโ€™s just for a second. Please, Mom?โ€ He shook Teresaโ€™s arm so hard that she almost lost her balance.

She said, โ€œSweetie, I havenโ€™t talked to him in ages. Iโ€™m not even sure I can reach him. If I canโ€™t, can we just skip seeing him?โ€

Only then did Michael let go. โ€œMom, if you canโ€™t find my dad, just call Mr. Lime. As long as Mr. Lime is with me on my birthday, Iโ€™ll be the happiest kid ever.โ€

Teresa fell silent, muttering, โ€œHow could I even face him now?โ€ She thought back to that night in Strico. Theyโ€™d slept together. Heโ€™d said if she got pregnant, she should keep the baby, and heโ€™d even promised to take care of her. But Teresa had turned him down and flown back without saying goodbye. He hadnโ€™t reached out since.

Lately, Teresa had been busy with Jenniferโ€™s pregnancy and Cherylโ€™s new baby, so she hadnโ€™t had the time or the nerve to contact Jonathanโ€”not that there was much reason to, anyway. All she could do was assure Michael sheโ€™d do her best to make it happen.

โ€œMom, if you get in touch with my dad, then donโ€™t invite Mr. Lime, okay? Iโ€™m worried my dad will feel bad seeing someone as cool as Mr. Lime,โ€ Michael added.

Hearing that, Teresa didnโ€™t know what to say.

Teresa invited Miriam to dinner to thank her for always helping care for Michael. Every time Teresa wasnโ€™t home, Miriam had stepped in and done so much. She also invited Benny. Sheโ€™d been saying sheโ€™d treat him to a meal forever, but it had never actually happened until now.

Miriam showed up with Edward in tow. He was dressed down in a gray hoodie, looking super relaxed. He greeted Teresa with a โ€œHi.โ€

Teresa smiled. โ€œOrder whatever you want tonight. Itโ€™s on me.โ€

Benny grinned. โ€œIf Jonathan were here too, this would be the perfect group. Drinking by myself just isnโ€™t as fun.โ€

Edward jumped in. โ€œIโ€™ll drink with you, Benny!โ€

Benny waved him off. โ€œForget it, Donald. Youโ€™ve never been able to hold your liquor.โ€

Miriam looked like she was about to smack Benny. โ€œCall him the wrong name one more time. I dare you.โ€

Benny realized he was in the wrong and slapped himself lightly on the mouth. โ€œI always mix up their names. Got any tricks to help me remember?โ€

Miriam threw an arm around Edwardโ€™s neck. โ€œIsnโ€™t it obvious? Eddie is so handsome. Donaldโ€™s definitely not as cool as him.โ€

Benny laughed. โ€œI donโ€™t think Donaldโ€™s that much less attractive, though. Thatโ€™s not gonna help me remember.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve got a way for you,โ€ Teresa said lazily as she poured some coffee. She added, โ€œJust think about it this way: Iโ€™m divorced from Jonathan, and Miriamโ€™s my best friend. Sheโ€™s on my side, so thereโ€™s no way sheโ€™d marry a Lynn. Marrying a Lawrence makes perfect sense.โ€

Benny snapped his fingers. โ€œThatโ€™s a good one. Iโ€™ll remember for sure now. I promise I wonโ€™t mix them up again.โ€

Miriam huffed. โ€œYou better keep your word.โ€

Benny chuckled and turned to Teresa. โ€œSince Jonathanโ€™s not here, youโ€™ll have to drink with me.โ€

โ€œI quit ages ago,โ€ Teresa waved him off. โ€œHavenโ€™t touched a drop in forever. Let Edward keep you company.โ€

โ€œBut you used to love drinking! What made you quit?โ€ Benny asked.
