Chapter 409
As the doctor spoke, she glanced at Teresa, who was stylishly dressed and looked well-off. If money weren't an issue, raising a child shouldn't be a problem. The doctor assumed this was Jennifer's second child.
Teresa looked at Jennifer and said, โEven the doctor thinks you should talk to your husband. Itโs not like heโs dead.โ
โThatโs enough,โ Jennifer said firmly. โThis is my decision. No one is going to change my mind.โ
Seeing how determined Jennifer was, the doctor sighed. โYouโll have to wait in line for the painless procedure. Just fill out the form first.โ
โOkay.โ Jennifer, a doctor herself, knew the process inside and out. She just never thought sheโd be here for an abortion.
Then Jenniferโs phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID, her eyes flickering, and motioned for Teresa to stay quiet before answering. โHello?โ
Donaldโs voice came through, full of concern. โWhy does your voice sound a little hoarse? I got off work early today. How about I come to pick you up in Chesburg?โ
โNo need. Teresa wants to spend the night with me. Just the two of us. Some sister time to talk and catch up,โ Jennifer said quickly.
Hearing that, Donald didnโt push. โAlright, Iโll let you two have your heart-to-heart. Iโll go buy some groceries and beef for dinner. Call me if you need anything, okay? As your fiancรฉ, Iโm always here for you.โ
Jennifer felt her nose sting, but she just said, โOkay.โ Then she hung up.
Teresa let out a cold laugh. โYou really know how to use me as your excuse.โ
Jennifer sighed. โI really do feel bad for Donald. In so many ways, I donโt want to lose him. Please help me keep my pregnancy and abortion a secret. I just donโt want him to get hurt.โ
โIs it that you donโt want him to be hurt, or that you donโt want him to hate you?โ Teresa asked.
Hearing that, Jennifer fell silent.
โHeโs busy planning your wedding, and youโre getting rid of his baby without even telling him. Heโs going to hate you for this,โ Teresa warned.
Jennifer said word by word, โRight now, this baby is just holding back my career.โ
She added, โIโve already paid. Thereโs no turning back. Letโs go upstairs.โ
The elevator doors slid open. The operating room felt like a gateway to the underworld; a cold, unsettling chill hung in the air.
Just as Teresa was getting creeped out, her phone rang.
Jennifer snapped, โWhose call is that? If itโs not important, donโt answer.โ
โItโs Cheryl,โ Teresa said, picking up. Donald had just called Jennifer, and now Cheryl was calling Teresa.
On the other end, Cheryl sounded panicked and breathless. โTeresa, when you had Mike, did you feel like everything was about to fall out? I feel like the babyโs coming. Am I just overthinking it? Iโm scared my water broke.โ
โTry to stay calm. Where are you right now?โ Teresa asked quickly.
Cheryl was still gasping. โIโm in Lonisburg, at the same residential complex where you bought that place before.โ
โIโm in Chesburg, not far from you. Iโll come over to you now,โ Teresa replied.
She hung up and grabbed Jenniferโs arm. โI think Cherylโs about to have the baby. Sheโs in Lonisburg. We need to go now.โ
Jennifer brushed Teresaโs hand off. โIf sheโs in labor, she can call an ambulance. Why is she calling you?โ
โSheโs just a young girl, all alone in Lonisburg. She doesnโt even know if sheโs really in labor, and she wanted to ask me. I could tell from her voice that something was wrong,โ Teresa explained.
She yanked her arm free from Jennifer. โForget it. Iโll go myself. Honestly, Iโd rather check on Cheryl than sit here with you for your abortion.โ
