Chapter 408
โYeah, this is my own choice,โ Jennifer said. โDonโt tell Donald Iโm pregnant.โ
Teresa said slowly, โYouโre not being fair to Donald. Even though you donโt want the baby, you should at least talk to him. Heโs your fiancรฉ.โ
โThatโs enough,โ Jennifer said.
Jennifer continued, โI love Donald. I really do. But for me, my career comes before love. Do you get what I mean?โ
โOh, please. Stop trying to make yourself sound so noble,โ Teresa scoffed. She didnโt feel like arguing anymore and dropped the subject.
When they arrived at Bradley and Natalieโs graves, the place felt bleak. Teresa placed the white chrysanthemums sheโd brought in front of the headstone, staring at the photo. โGrandpa, Grandma, I came to see you.โ
Scenes from when her grandparents were still alive flashed through her mindโhow much they spoiled her and doted on her. Only someone raised by their grandparents could truly understand that kind of love.
Jennifer felt a bit cold and returned to the car first. Teresa stayed, quietly lighting candles.
She said, โGrandpa, Grandma, I found my sister. Sheโs married into the Lynn family now, and Iโm not part of the Lynn family anymore. Thatโs fine, right? I really miss you. If you need anything over there, just let me know in a dream, and Iโll come to visit you.โ
After standing there for a long time, Teresa finally left reluctantly.
They chose the nearest hospital. Since this was where Bradley and Natalie used to live, Teresa still knew her way around; Chesburg hadnโt really changed. There was only one tertiary hospital in town.
They walked in silence. Reaching the hospital entrance, Teresa stopped. โYou go in by yourself. Iโll wait for you outside,โ she said.
Seeing Teresa about to leave, Jennifer grabbed her arm. โYou want me to go in alone? No way. You have to come with me,โ she insisted.
Teresa laughed coldly. โWhy? Getting scared now? Jennifer, youโre a gynecologist. You see new lives every day. If anyone knows what it means to be a mother, itโs you. And now youโre about to end your own childโs life with your own hands.โ
โEnough, I donโt want to hear it,โ Jennifer said, refusing to let go of Teresaโs hand. โJust stay with me, okay?โ
The hospital was busy, especially around the gynecology department. Women were coming and going. Some were holding babies, while others, with big bellies, were there for prenatal checkups. A few kids ran past, bumping into Jennifer and Teresa. โSorry, Miss!โ one of them called out in a sweet, childish voice before dashing off again.
Teresa tried again to dissuade Jennifer. โIf you really want an abortion, at least talk to Donald. If he agrees, let him come with you.โ
โThereโs no way Iโm telling him,โ Jennifer said, enunciating each word. โJust like what happened with Mike. Some secrets are better left buried.โ
โMy situation isnโt the same as yours. Iโm divorced. You and Donald are about to get married, and your in-laws treat you well. You should talk to them about this,โ Teresa insisted.
Jennifer was silent for a couple of seconds and then walked straight into the waiting room without looking back. Teresa just watched her go in silence.
The doctor glanced at the ultrasound and asked Jennifer, โYouโre just a few weeks along. Whatโs going on? Are you planning to end the pregnancy?โ
โYeah,โ Teresa replied.
โHave you ever had an abortion before?โ the doctor asked again.
โNo,โ Jennifer replied coolly.
โAlright, fill out this form. From what I can see, everything looks normal. Maybe you should think it over and talk to your husband. These days, if your familyโs doing well, having a few more kids isnโt a bad thing, right, Miss?โ the doctor asked.
