Chapter 398
Hearing that, Teresa stayed calm and said, โWasnโt it you who told me to say that? You didnโt want me drinking alone. Remember?โ
Jonathan paused for a couple of seconds, then caught on. He smiled and thought, โThat was a good one.โ
Duncan didnโt seem bothered. He raised his hand and said, โSo, if this was all just a misunderstanding, I can go now, right?โ
Jonathan said, โMr. Osborne, my wife isnโt your first victim. You hang around bars and clubs every night, looking for young, pretty, single women.โ
โMy lawyer has already reached out to the women youโve tricked, and as for your other little scams, tell my lawyer everything.โ
Then he took Teresaโs hand and said, โLetโs go.โ
Even though heโd just stood up for her, Teresa couldnโt bring herself to smile. If Jonathan ever decided to look into her past, sheโd have nowhere to hide. But he never did. He never even tried to ask.
After they left the police station, Jonathan asked her in the car, โWhen are you heading back to Nareigh?โ
โTomorrow,โ Teresa replied after a few seconds of silence. Then she added, โArenโt you going to ask me about that phone call?โ
โI trust you. If you were lying, you wouldnโt have ended up in bed with me again last night,โ Jonathan said.
Teresa sighed. โYou canโt walk by the river without getting your feet wet. This is the last time, I swear. Last time, it was because of your fever. We agreed that it would be. This time, I was drugged. Letโs just call it even, okay?โ
Jonathan smirked. โSo Iโm the one who got your feet wet, huh?โ
โThatโs not what I meant. Youโre twisting my words,โ Teresa said. โAnyway, Iโm leaving tomorrow. Letโs just treat this as a random encounter and get back to our own lives.โ
โI might not go back to Nareigh,โ Jonathan replied.
Teresa shot him a look, not sure what he meant by that.
Jonathan said, โLast night, you wouldnโt let me use protection. If you end up pregnant, Iโll take care of you.โ
โI was in my safe period yesterday. Thereโs no way,โ Teresa said.
โBut what if?โ Jonathanโs face was tense as he drove. โHonestly, trust condoms more than your calendar.โ
Teresa didnโt know how to respond. They both fell silent for a long moment.
Then Teresa said, โI wasnโt really myself yesterday because of the drugs. I canโt remember everything I said, but I know it was my safe period. I canโt get pregnant. Iโll just take some contraceptive pills, so you donโt have to think much about it.โ
She might have been out of it last night, but Jonathan had been completely sober.
He said, โIt doesnโt matter if you meant it or not. You said it, and you heard the recording. If you do get pregnant, give me a child. At least I wonโt be so alone.โ
Teresa was suddenly at a loss for words. No matter the reason for their divorce, whether it was his mother or Yvonne, she should have told him about Michael. Especially now, when he still doesnโt have a child or anyone new in his life.
All Teresa could do was feel sorry, though the words remained unspoken in her mind.
Chapter 398
Coming back to Nareigh felt like a dream. On the plane, Teresa had been scribbling Jonathanโs name all over her notebook, convinced that sheโd never run into him again.
She went to Sanfordโs place first to pick up Isabel and then headed over to get Michael.
Michael didnโt say a word to Teresa the whole way, sulking in the back seat.
Teresa could tell he was upset. Once they got home, she asked, โWhatโs wrong? Look, I got you a new toy. Come and see if you like it. Donโt say I donโt think about you.โ
